Ayomide94:
Hello everyone,
My sister would like to invite our mother to the U.S. on a visitor visa—she recently became a U.S. citizen. While filling out the DS-160 form for our mom, she chose Lagos as the location for the visa interview. Unfortunately, there were no available interview dates in Lagos for this year, so she ended up booking an appointment in Abuja for November 2025.
I have a few questions:
Is there any issue or consequence with changing the interview location from Lagos to Abuja?
Can she attend the interview in Abuja using the same DS-160 form, or will she need to fill out a new one? What’s the best way to handle this?
What documents should our mom bring with her to the visa interview?
Is she required to go for document verification in Abuja before the actual interview date?
I’d really appreciate your helpful answers and guidance.
Thank you so much!
The location selected on your DS160 must match your interview location. Please fill out another DS-160 to adjust the location, and retrieve the application to repopulate the form with previous information.

We are suffering in this country oo. port privilege is REAL.
My 2 year old son is a Canadian port holder. He didn't have to apply for a UK visa with me, my wife and daughter and be queuing for biometrics at VFS. But I found out we still needed for apply for ETA for him, it says it takes 3 working days on their website and could sometimes take longer. I applied today which is a Sunday and i was hoping by end of the week at least we should get a response, only for me to apply and get approved in literally 10 seconds, before i could finish reading the payment successful message and close the tab, the approval email dropped. The worst part is, the approval was automated, nobody had to check the information i even provided.
I can rant about this for ten days continuous 😂😂😂😂😂. I did same for mine too it came immediately for my daughter. Funny thing even some people with guayana port they have visa free travel here for six months and they also now need ETA and it’s same swift approval for them. God help us with green port

Why do they need a visa to transit through though? I have had layovers severally in without it.
Also, i know that you will only need a visa if you are transiting through 2 EU countries. E.g Lagos to Amsterdam to paris to london, since both Amsterdam and paris are inside EU coutries, that is when you will need a visa. But as long as you are only crossing 1 EU country, you do not need a visa as far as i know (Also as long as you will not be leaving the airport obviously)
If you’re flying any EU airline to the uk and you don’t have a Canadian , USA , Schengen, Japan visa you will need a transit visa. This started since brexit.

My 5 years visa is getting to 2 years old and I have not travelled...how things have gone bad in my country!
I only recently just used my five years visa too when I realized it’ll soon be two years since I renewed. I think the five years length is also a factor as to why we don’t even think of using it so soon

No vex Debbie
Although the response was intended for someone else, the insults are completely uncalled for on a faceless forum. Is this level of aggression really necessary?

Its not just a yes/no question. You'll proceed to input details of the school.
The agent insists it is University and I have filled the details.
I just want to be sure its the correct thing so I dont get disqualified for something so little.
Thanks again
Modified:
I just read the question again and it reads-- Have you attended any educational institution at a secondary level or above
I guess the university I put is fine then
For me I don’t fill in secondary school details. I put university details, law school and masters degree.
If you filled university details I’d say you’re good to go

You are mixing up information. Don't instruct or teach me or the public what to do. Tell us what and what you did when you received that same letter?
Besides, that letter even seems to be an old letter related to previous CGI page. My argument is that tell us what you did if you are absolutely sure you received that same letter otherwise your answer is a generalisation. 👍
You don start.

** You see, some visa applicants focus on their achievements ie travel history, family or personal wealth, educational achievements, connections, personal unique skills etc and approach or communicate with the consular as a different or special applicant thus presenting them to the consular as braggarts.
Consular officers have the absolute decision, even they have the right to decide visa outcome based on their personal moods. Thus presenting yourself as an exclusive being Infront of a visa officer is an obvious red-flag.
Americans believe in Equal Opportunity For All so no one should feel special when seeking for visa. 👍
Interesting perspective. Might be helpful to keep responses a bit more on-topic and grounded for clarity’s sake.

They don't really focus on finance. The main thing is home ties. She must convince the visa officer she will come back to Nigeria.
Even with home ties sef it depends on their mood.

This thing is now becoming very common. We need to fix Nigeria o
At this point! Because it’s giving madness with these officers who checkout people’s applications. On another note I will not blame them because our economy is nothing to write home about.
My mom submitted for IW today, waiting to see what the timeframe will be for renewal, fingers crossed.

Hello Preshy. This is a Soliloquy. Post your transcripts so that competent people can guide you. U.S. embassy is not a respecter of any citizen (either rich or poor) except some exclusive government office holders.
The philosophy is everyone going to the U.S. embassy for visa is qualified but visas cannot be given to everybody. Therefore, once you are not able to convince the visa officer then you have more homework to do.
Attend your visa interview as a commonplace citizen & request for the visa with humbleness. Ciao 👍
As how?

Good evening house, my brother applied for a canada visit visa in 2023 through an agent. He did his biometrics in September but since then, the agent kept saying his file has not been attended too. One way or the other, my brother found out last week that his visa application was refused in March 2024 and he was also banned for 5 years.
Please is there any way that he can fight or reverse the ban??
What have you done to the agent? Is he still alright?

Hi all, please is it possible to apply for an F2 visa while on a Standard visiting visa to the UK? What are the likely requirements please?
It is possible to apply but will you be granted is the question? Your ties to Nigeria cannot be established as a temporary visitor to the United Kingdom, these V.O’s won’t go the extra mile to establish that, so abort mission and apply where you’re meant to.

Please can someone kindly guide me on my current situation with getting US tourist visa appointment in Lagos consulate. I already filled my DS-160 form, selected Lagos as my desired location, submitted and made payment. On getting to the appointment page to select a date, the website says here is no available date in my location (Lagos). I changed it to Abuja and I found that there are available dates in Abuja. Can I select Abuja and then go for the interview or do i need to fill another Ds-160 form to choose Abuja as my location and I hope I dont have to make another payment or what is the way forward. I will appreciate your advice on this.
There’s a new rule that your location should match on both ds 160 and appointment location. Regardless you should customer service and refer to relevant publications. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DIgPiuupCHy/?igsh=YWRnMjhyeGczdzNo

I used the AVITS platform to schedule my mom’s interview waiver appointment. I paid with my credit card, and it was quite seamless. They seem to be improving the website to minimize glitches.
I hope they can come up with a lasting solution to the constant timeouts of the DS-160 form while completing it because it frustrated me a lot.

I believe the valid US visa did the magic. I have an expired US visa which I used twice in the past but I'm still awaiting decision after 3 weeks of biometrics completion.
I helped her renew her U.S. visa through Dropbox before applying for her Canadian visa because I know that if your U.S. visa is not current, they may not expedite the process as they usually would. I think you should have renewed your U.S. visa before applying for the Canadian one.

Applied for my aunty on the 6th April , biometrics on the 9th April and approval on the 14th April. London vfs office, bvl came from IRCC London office.
She has an unused recently issued USA visa and a previously expired USA visa used once.
I was ready for the London horror stories of long waiting times but I’m surprised!
All the best everyone 😘

My interview is in few days time!
Good people, what should I expect? What do I need to do to ensure a seamless and positive outcome?
In summary, you have less than two minutes to convince the visa officer of your eligibility for the NIV. Make your answers concise and precise from the very first word, and avoid being patronizing.

Did they email you the label? For the UK, I had to call DHL to ask when they were coming to pick up, they came two days after I booked. Print out the label they sent and envelope your documents

My dad’s visa was approved in Abuja. In the forms, I indicated that I was sponsoring him and I put my address as where he would be staying, also my dad is widowed. Here’s the questions he was asked.
VO: Where are you going to?
Dad: I am going to (*insert a US state*) to visit my last daughter
VO: Do you have other children?
Dad: I have two others, one works in Abuja and she brought me here and the other works in (*inserts another Nigerian state*)
VO: have you travelled out before
Dad: Yes, I’ve been to and the UK (note: I wrote no in his form because these travels were not in the last 5years) but the VO didn’t ask if it was in the last 5years
VO: when did you travel to those places
Dad: in the late 1980s and early 1990s
VO: I will be approving your visa.
His visa was approved on a Thursday, it changed to issued on Friday and when I checked on Monday on the OIS platform, his port was ready for pickup.
I'm pleased to see that parents are no longer denied visas, unlike before, congratulations.
