The general rule of thumb is six months, as circumstances tend to change after this period. Some people choose to apply immediately; in certain cases, this results in unfavorable outcomes, while in others, it can be favourable. I'll say the main thing is tackling the reason(s) for refusal before reapplying.
As for processing time, there's no time frame, it can be long or short

If you are going to do the application by yourself, I will suggest you use the old portal and not the IRCC new portal

You can choose either LA or NYC, as those are the only VFS locations in the U.S. Personally, I’d go with NYC

Did they email you the label? For the UK, I had to call DHL to ask when they were coming to pick up, they came two days after I booked. Print out the label they sent and envelope your documents

they sent mi sumtin with a reference no. But I don't know who to call and as there is no phone number. I am just a bit frustrated cos I need my port back soonest to apply for my son US port.

First thing, i have a valid US Visa, i have read here on numerous occasions that, it helps in expediting .

Also in my LOE i gave reasons why i needed it processed quickly, i wouldn’t know if that helped.

I’m seeing your email requests here on nairaland home page but I can’t see it in my email inbox so I’ve sent one to you.
You need the copy of your port make sure you have the copy of your port and your spouse as listed on the B.C

The first person (who had never travelled before) was approved in 2 weeks, and the second (who had travelled to Saudi Arabia) in 4 months.

I was talking based on experience over time and facts from IRCC website. Also to correct the notion that the US travel history accelerated the application processing time.

I would advise GCKey (old portal) as it allows you to attach more documents (greater size limit).

I’ll have to agree that luck plays a huge part in the processing times. Applied for my mum since October, and haven’t gotten any yet. Applied for my mother-in-law last month and she already has her PPR. Pretty much same profile - both 60+, both retired, both 100% sponsored & invited by us and both zero travel history in the last 10 years.

As much as many people think they ‘know’ or understand IRCC, they don’t.

Sir, these are grandma or grandpa applications with no travel history, yet they still get faster processing times by ircc , unlike majority applicant under 50 who are likely planning to claim asylum on visit visa.
