Why wud you call installer to equalize for you, when you have at least 1 functioning hand and 1 head? .
2ndly the average nigerian inspite of several warnings still fails to educate himself on the workings of inverter/charge controller...heck on the workings of anything...but choose to rely on someone else to think/do for him----that is the bane of the issues we are having in this country!. automated equalized/desulphation is the best. people shud ensure they buy inverters and ccs with this function....and ensure its programmmed apprioprately.
note: kazeem doesnt know nor care to programme this. so the onus is on you to ensure you buy a device with such function. 2. to ensure its programmed accordingly

he is wrong wrongest.
flooded batteries still emit gases, however because the average installer in clueless and inept, they usually don't program the inverter properly, so the inverter ends up sending suboptimal voltages to the battery.
flooded battery usually requires 14.5v to 14.8v for proper charging and 15.5v every 4hrs monthly. the battery will usually release gases/fumes during this equalization cos of the higher voltages sent to the battery. most un programmed inverters send only about 13.8v to 14.3v , this voltage is too low to produce any serious fumes/gases, and they also don't equalize----with this you see some flooded battery s saying they only top up water once a year , very very wrong, and such practise is irreversibly damaging the battery
The problem with equalizing is that, that particular mode isn't on most inverters so you have to be calling technician to come equalize battery for you. My inverter usage isn't so intense and I added water only after 7 months of installation.
My batteries do produce correct fumes sha which I only notice because of the weird smell in the room where they are setup. The smell is intense during harmattan period as I tend to close the windows because of dust

Whats the maximum instantaneous pv yield that you've seen? I think he is right, daily solar hours has reduced, and pv generation has reduced also. That could be the reason why your battery voltage hasn't gone beyond 26.9v. In the interim, You can supplement with alternative means of charging and then compare.
Thanks man 🙏🏾
I think maximum yield was around December last year when I had just installed it. Was probably doing around 900Watts
The reason why the 26.9V is really bothering me is because I can add more load to the inverter and it will still maintain that 26.9V unless the load is pretty heavy like a microwave oven.
Since 26.9V is no where near the normal 28.2V, I was expecting the voltage to drop with each little load I turn on i.e laptop, standing fans.
I'm hoping NEPA gets serious sha so they can finally diagnose what's wrong with the power supply to my house, then I can test the inverter with NEPA too. (I don't have a generator)

Happy weekend oh. Abeg i need small help.
For like 3 days now I've noticed that my Famicare inverter battery reading doesn't go past 26.9V. Solar output is still very stable at around 650W max and my usage is still normal and also I haven't tweaked the inverter settings at all. I've been running on battery only for like 2 months now because my light has wahala and it can't be fixed until power supply in my area is predictable.
Usually by 12 noon, the battery would have reached 28.2V but these days I doesn't go past 26.9V.
I had to refill distilled water last night thinking maybe because some cells are getting close to the red line na why wahala dey but still this morning na 26.9V dey.
I called the inverter installer guy and he was talking about the sun having changed position but I think that's supposed to affect solar output not the actual battery voltage....abi am I wrong?
What do you guys recommend I do abeg? Thanks

what is 50% DoD for a 24v norminal system in Volts... Eg, from 29v to 20v, 21v, 22v, 23v or 24v use? considering that an rest, a Lead Acid battery would always drop to 26.xV without trickle charge (Float)
ChatGPT
If the nominal voltage of a 24V system is assumed to be 24V, then a 50% depth of discharge (DoD) would mean that the battery has discharged half of its capacity, which would equate to approximately 12V.
However, it's important to note that the voltage range you provided (from 29V to 20V) is a bit wider than what would typically be expected for a 24V battery system. Additionally, the resting voltage you mentioned (26.xV) would likely only be applicable after the battery has been fully charged and then allowed to rest for some time without any load or charging.
In general, the voltage of a lead-acid battery will vary depending on a variety of factors such as temperature, charge level, and load, so it's difficult to give a specific voltage range for a 50% DoD without additional information about the specific battery being used and the conditions under which it is being operated.

Can we have more indept info better than the above please from any member in the house...
The scenerio above is considering an off grid instance where at 5pm, the sun is completely out and loads depend on the backup till next morning
With the small knowledge I have, once your batteries hit 24V, that's 50% DOD.
Without load and solar/PHCN, my fully charged batteries sit at around 25.1V to 25.3V.

the c/10 is same where you apply it singly or cumulatively. c/10 of 440ah is 44amps, so you shud try to keep ur total running load below this at sundown/no sun periods...multiply this by the system voltage to get about 960watts. ie 24v x 44ah.
the iron of 850watts wudnt damage your battery.....i even use a steam iron of 1200w on my 4 flooded batteries...no issues. this is because the thermostat of the iron regulates the load..heats for 60secs or so and turns off..n cycles again. am sure the battery might hv gotten damaged, if it was a constant 1200 watts draw..like sumo/ac etc.
pls the quality of battery plays a big role as thicker plated batteries are more durable. 2ndly flooded batteries are tougher n recover from abuse better than the normal dry cells. find below my ranking of batteries
lifepo4 >>> 2v 600ah and above cells >>>>>> flooded battery/AGM >>>>>>>>>Other sealed battery types
Thank you so much. My mind is at rest now 😂. My pressing iron and air fryer do the same power on and off cycle thing so I'm good. Will continue operating them at maximum sun availability only. The batteries are Haustrom brand bought from an authorized dealer so hopefully the quality is okay 👌😊

Damaging your batteries not your inverter, except you're using it during high yield solar period of the day.
The pressing iron uses around 850W max according to my wattmeter.
The 4 pieces of tubular battery are setup to make a total of 24V 440AH.
How do I avoid damaging the batteries? Thanks
NOTE: I mainly use the dry pressing iron and oven when the solar s are at their maximum output of about 800W

vta2008: 1:39pm On May 03, 2023 |

They are playing safe, usually cos majority of owners aren't so knowledgeable or the installer himself. The weakest link is usually the battery...
A dry iron consumes btw 800watts to 1400w, while a steam iron between 1600w and 2500watts.
Now if you have 4 batteries, you may escape damage to the batteries if using dry iron. Of stated wattage range above., But steam iron will likely damage the battery.
Always have the c/10 rule at the back of your mind when using lead acid batteries.
Lithium batteries on the other hand has no issues with load and can do 1c, though 0.5C is the norm.
C in this scenario is capacity of the battery in AH
The pressing iron uses around 850W max according to my wattmeter.
The 4 pieces of tubular battery are setup to make a total of 24V 440AH.
Do I apply the C/10 rule per battery or the entire setup? Thanks

Abeg why is it that inverter installers always tell you not to use pressing irons? They never offer any meaningful explanation.
My inverter is a 5.5KVA with 4 batteries (12v 220AH)
Note: I've used a pressing iron and air fryer on the inverter without any issues but I sometimes wonder if I'm low key damaging the inverter.
Thanks

Before I bought mine from PRAG, I did reverse Google image search and saw that omo all of these stabilizers and most inverters dey Alibaba. They just slap their names on the product and call it a day.
Even the manuals tell everything. Very poor English as though they couldn't pay a Chinese man with proper English skills to do the translation.
Quick question: does your dunamis come with a manual? Maybe you overloaded the stabilizer and this wahala ensued. They never disclose on the sales page but on the manual you'd see that these big stabilizers can only carry load at a certain input voltage. The lower the input voltage, the lower the amount of load you can put on the stabilizer

Of all three solutions, Theoretically (as I haven't done it personally) the one that can be moved from one house to another will be GEM based earthing. This is because upon application it sets like cement with the earth rod inside it and you can lower it to the design depth and forget about it. So conversely, if you want to transfer to another location, you carefully dig around it and gently pry it out like you are digging out a long tuber of yam 🍠.
I asked around and a bag of GEM of 11kg is about 45k. You would need at least 2 bags to get a mixture with correct density for the lowest application volume as per manufacturers recommendations.
😂😂😂 e don enter farming things. Thanks a lot. I'll discuss the GEM option with the installation guy when my money complete.

You're on the right path. Just for your information, as has been mentioned here before, lightning strike doesn't need rain before it lashes out.
For your earthing solution, in order of "superiority"
1) GEM based earthing (maintenance free, @ least 30yrs)
2) Bentonite based earthing (low maintenance)
3) charcoal, industrial salt, manure based earthing (high maintenance)
Thanks for the list of solutions. All I need to know now is if the setup can be easily moved when switching apartments. Spending N180K everytime person move na die.

Thanks to NiyiOmoIyunade, FEGEITOK and others that have been speaking about lightning wahala, I never knew it was a problem till this evening.
Just got off the phone with my installer and he said he didn't add it to the initial setup cost as he saw I was a bit worried about extra costs. SMH.
If he had explained the need for it, I would have sourced the money by fire by force as replacing all my damaged electronics would be more expensive.
Anyway, the rains have not started here in Sokoto till maybe May, so he'll setup the lightning protection etc. by the end of this month or early next month after pay day...will cost me N180K.
Thanks again guys ❤️❤️

This is his worry.
He's not doing badly currently on a salary of 250k before tax. He is 31 and the lady in question is 29.
According to him, they have been dating for over 6months, so last week he brought up the marriage conversation and the lady told him that she is not mentally ready for a marriage, that even at all, they are to get married, he need to change from his mini flat to bigger apartment and get a car.
Note : he stays in a mini-flat at an estate at Gbagada.
The writing is already on the wall.
1. They are still in dating phase...madam doesn't sound like one that is fully invested in the relationship at the moment aka love wantintin.
2. Money matters a lot to her and I can't fault anybody that thinks like this. Some people just no wan suffer. Soft life every day till we die
If he's in a hurry to get married, it's time to quit the "dating" and move on to someone else that is ready for marriage within his financial means.
On the other hand, he might decide to wait for her to be ready, fall in love with him etc and in the end he will still shop breakfast (Women have been taking that risk since so......)
We wish him well
