It is an avenue Dangote really needs to look at. However, i suspect governments across West Africa may in place very high tax rate of pump price and that makes it still way higher than the average price in Nigeria and why the smuggling is still attractive.

True that. I believe Ghana, for example, includes a tax in the price of every liter of fuel sold.

Other countries are making progress while Nigeria is busy churning out terro.rists undecided

Okay, vote for a leader who will industrialize our nation, and raise our tax to gdp ratio so that we can have a police force with a budget of at least 20 trillion naira that can be effective in the urban and rural areas....and we can have enough jobs , and we can earn money from exporting maufactured goods and services.

Instead, you guys voted, in the last election, for people who ie...tinubu, obi and atiku had no idea about how to get more money beyond oil dependency.

We grumble year in and out, yet we don't do anything different every election. We complain about how bad things are, yet vote for leaders who give us free stuff. Or promise free stuff.

And there are a lot of countries with minor and major terror issues. Not just Nigeria.
nairalanda1(m): 5:14pm
It's bad, but the good news is, we are no longer doing it on the government's dime. We are no longer throwing money into a bottomless pit or having people lie to get more subsidy money.

We should have removed subsidy since 1993, folks. We are doing the work we should have done ages ago. At least karma came to bite the ojota organisers in the back. Still, at the end, subsidy had to go. We was running on empty paying for at least 6 or eight african countries' fuel
nairalanda1(m): 4:44pm
Interesting.

At the end, all good things must come to an end. I must confess i thought that AMCON Initially was problematic...basically it was just 'hiding debts', but it has turned out to be a good thing, and probably saved far more jobs than any government.

One of GEJ's good ideas (lol to the APC geng) is finally being wound up. I would be sorry to see it go, but at the end, I suspect that was the plan from day one. Government cannot be covering for loans...it is kind of risky business. Still, in this case, it worked.
nairalanda1(m): 4:39pm
The important thing right now is

1. The opposition has got to be united.

2. There has to be an idea behind the oppositon

3. Don't let Atiku near the presidency. Even if it means chasing him back to the APC, so be it.

4. Obi is a good guy. The main problem is....he is seen as the Igbo candidate, and to a lesser extent as the christian candidate. He has to fix that...same as Buhari had to fix his 'Hausa and Islamic' candidate image in 2015. Even if it means taking part in next year's ramadan...he should DO IT. Even if it means donating 20 million naira to Islamic Aid...do it.

5. We got to have a party to run on. NO more movement nonsense. See as how obidients in 2023 are now running, most of them, to APC.

Hello everyone, I need your opinions on this issue that’s causing some interesting situation at home.

I’ve been working fully remote for two years now, taking care of the kids and managing the house after moving into a state in Nigeria from Lag. (I was hybrid before and go to Lag weekly before- not easy). Last Friday, my wife came back home from Lag - we stiĺl maintain our house there cos she works there , and everything just went upside down.

I stepped outside to take get somewhere, and she checked my phone (we’re recently being locking phones). She saw a pregnancy scan on my phone that mentioned something about “breech presentation.” The thing is, this scan isn’t mine! It belongs to my Farm worker’s wife. He showed it to me while talking about her condition, and I took a picture to keep it for him for hospital records and future reference. That’s all.

When my wife saw it, her mood changed instantly. She started asking me tough questions, but I gave vague answers cos I knew her tendedncy to have persismistic thoughts and conclusions. Haha! She concluded I got another woman pregnant. Before I knew it, she called my mum, then my dad. That same evening, my dad came over to comfort her. From his expression, it looked like he also thought I messed up. I just excused myself and left the room.

Now, my mum and dad have called me, saying they’re disappointed and telling me to repent from “adultery.” I got upset and told them I’m a grown man who can make my own choices, and I haven’t done anything wrong.

She informed all my in-laws and says my FIL is really angry.

The while situation has sent my wife into a spiral—she’s paranoid, heartbroken, and acting sick. She’s telling me to pay off this “woman,” block her, and never speak to her again. I told her I won’t do that cos the woman may have being her!

Right now, I’m just letting things sit to see how it plays out, but the tension between us is heavy. My wife is not herself, and my parents are treating me like I’ve sinned. She even acted up to the point She was prophesying my Downfall cos of my Adultery. Like in the spirit the 30 minutes straight. I just dey shake my head.

What's your opinion about this, I plan to keep it on for as long as I can withstand the drama.

I apologize to the s in advance

1. Seriously, are you a child.?

2. Your behaviour reminds me of a silly little boy, not a mature man

3. EIther this is silly ragebait, or if you are for real, grow up, and stop being immatue.

Not a Nigerian thing though. A lot of people lie on their cv worldwide

One American woman lied on her cv to land a job in television. Of course she was underperforming well well. Fortunately, her superior found her 'gumption' irable and assigned her to other duties. The woman went on to become a top tv producer..true story

Great economies like China's?

China is not a democracy in case you forgot.

Even the so-called champions of democracy economies are floundering

There are two kinds of countries in this world...those that use what they have to make things the world needs, and those who just sell raw materials.

China, and South Korea are one kind of country, Nigeria is another.

Nigeria has always been broke because we sell raw materials. Yes, even under army rule. Because ...we don't control the prices of those raw materials. As a result, when revenue is high, we have a good life, and when revenue falls, we get a bad life. That is why life was 'good' in 1971-83, and 2008-14. And bad for most of the rest of the time.

China and South Korea on the other hand use what they have to make things the world needs...and they control and set the prices, and they can compete with manufacturers in Europe and the North Americas. The result is that they went from being behind most African nations in gdp in the 1960's to being ahead of them.

You are here praising army rule because civillan rule has been dissapointing. I also find civillian rule dissapointing. But army rule, old man, was not better. It seemed better in the 1970's because we had oil money covering the cracks. It got worse in the 1980's because oil prices collapsed.

The thing is, if army takes over, they will do what tinubu is doing. Because there is no Nigerian leader who wants to take us to being a manufacturer and exporter of manufactured goods and services.

Like what traore is doing. He is doing what the people that precceded him are doing...selling raw materials, only this time to Rossiya. And building roads and so on...like y'know tinubu...

You should get rid of your bitterness over losing some crummy election, and face 2027. Let's get a better leader that would kick out APC once and for all. But the problem is, you guys don't want good governance, you want your side to win.

The problem is, your average politician in Nigeria does not know what to do when they are not at the center.

As a result, we have never had a mature Opposition in Nigeria. Just politicians switching sides when they like.

All I will say is that at the end, it is mostly his party . They can't do otherwise.

My own palaver is that the opposition is in total disarray. They seem not to be ready to build on and learn from the mistakes of 2023, where more people voted against APC than for APC. If not that the vote was divided between Atiku and Obi, Tinubu would have been living in retirement.

Anyway, there is still time.

Scammers like these would never thrive in the Western world because regulatory bodies there take their roles seriously and act swiftly.

How can you identify looming danger and instead of deploying every tool at your disposal to stop it, your response is to merely issue warnings? Who does that?

Let’s be honest—both the EFCC and the SEC have failed Nigerians. They must be overhauled and staffed with competent individuals who understand their responsibilities and are committed to protecting the financial integrity of this country."**

I do believe that the government has done it's best.

Most African nations like ours needs this

All African nations that had coups...the end has always been one man dictatorships that were even harsher than civillian rule, or transition to democracy. None of them left their nation better than it was....none of them took their nation from third world to first world.

The army boys come from the same mix as the civillian boys. They do the same thing...be it western backed or antiwestern backed. They use propaganda to mask the fact that they do the same thing.

At least civillan rule...there is relative freedom compared to army rule. Many of the articles printed about our civillan rulers since 1999 in the media...if they printed them under army rule, the offending news publication would have been shut down for months on end, and the journalist would have been jailed incommunicado in DSS' underground cell.

Nnamdi Kanu , our most celebrated political prisioner , has access to his lawyers, doctors, even gets visitiors self. Under civillian rule. Abiola under army rule...had none of that.

I read comments here and I just shake my head. So many foolishness going on here.

Democracy itself is devilish. It's straight from the pit of hell. How can a government make so much development and another government comes on board and destroy the development of the other government. Is that not satanic. Look at all the countries practising democracy, none of them are making waves. The USA that is the father of democracy is dying.

The earlier Africans do away with democracy the better.

Look at Nigeria for instance, APC has taken us back to 1970. What kind of madness is that.

Most of you here are spewing nonsense.

The problem is, whenever we do away with democracy, we always end up begging for it within the next five to seven years.

In 1966, we removed the civillians. By 1974, when Gowon told us that we were not ready for civillian rule, after initially promising a return in that year, Nigerians got really angry. At the end, Murtala came in and before he was assasinated announced a programme for return to civillian rule by 1979. He knew that if he didn't, Nigerians will chase him out.

Also, that was one of the sly ways IBB got initially. He was not like Buhari who refused to return or announce a return to civillan rule.

As for whether Nigeria has been good, the fact is, Nigeria has never been good. When you run a resource dependent economy based on one source of income, the majority always suffer.

And army rule has not left Africa developed or better in any way. We were always broke at the end of it. I could say the same for civillian rule...especially since I think that all our civillian rulers were awful. and the current regime is bad self. But the thing is, Traore is doing the same thing his predecessors did. He is just using propaganda. And if tinubu gets removed, the new army ruler would do the same thing.

Because developing a nation means hardship and more hardship. The only army ruler worldwide who developed his country was General Park of South Korea. And he did it the hard way. He was a harsh ruler and he made his country work hard. No African leader is going to take power with that kind of rhetoric. (Park ended up being assasinated as his thank you for good service.).

What's happening is being well choreographed by Russia to lure gullible Africans into destabilizing their own countries to weaken them enough to become its puppets.

It's reminiscent of similar tactics used by foreign powers during the 50s and 60s (particularly the 60s) to radicalize young Africans in the military into seizing power from democratically elected governments.

In the case of Nigeria, what we're currently witnessing is similar to the propaganda that preceded and was used to recruit, motivate and mobilize the likes of Kaduna Nzeogwu into executing the coup that eventually triggered and culminated in the devastating Biafra civil war. Nigeria is still yet to recover from the consequences of those events.

Unfortunately, it seems the younger generation of Africans are too naive to understand that they're mere pawns in a high stakes game of chess of geopolitical proportions.

Well yes, but every big power does it. Not just the Russians
nairalanda1(m): 7:15am On May 22
A coup might sound like a nice thing, but it always ends in tears.

A lot of people in Nigeria called for coups in 1965 and 1983, because let's be honest, the governments of the day were corrupt and bad. And the thing is, let's not lie, today's apc government is also corrupt and bad as were it's perdecessors. People have been calling for coups since we got democratic and honestly I don't blame them. Democracy in Nigeria has been a mess since 1999. These people don't represent folk like me

But army rule. We got what we wanted in 1966 and 1983. The 1966 coup precipated 4 years of unnecessary violence for nothing. Millions died for nothing. The 1983 coup led to 15 years of army rule, with the last five years being run by a guy who was basically on the verge of turning Nigeria into North Korea. Complete with personality cult of the Leader. And we could not criticize hin without being jailed incommunicado. At least under tpain, people like mmk have access to lawyers and doctors. Under abacha, get jailed by DSS, nothing like that.

At the end, a new army coup will lead to more years of sorrow. We will be begging for all the corrupt politicans to come back.

And let's be honest , if the 1966 coup had not happened, Nigeria won't have had to go through unnecessary crisis

Statement does not make sense.

He will remove criminality in subsidy... then remove subsidy?

If he removes the criminality, the logical assumption is that he would keep the subsidy then

Either way, subsidy had to go. If we kept subsidy as it was in say 2011, by now it would be eating 90% of our budget....

Why can't men in the 40's marry women in their 40's too?

1. Some do. But one thing about most of these marriages is that both the man and the woman have had children in their previous relationships

2. Also, a 40 year old man with no children is likely to seek out a woman that is still fertile. That's the woman in her 20,s. A woman his age is less likely to be fertile.

Now it does not mean that a 40s year old woman cant have children. I have seen it happen.many times. But it is more difficult at the forties and fifties. Men are always fertile.

3. Though as IVF and egg storage becomes more accessible, who knows.?

By the way many men and women in their forties prefer to marry their age mates, even without kids.

I never said any nation was clean...!

However, you are talking about covert operations.

Such things are not brought to the courts of law neither do the nations wholly accept responsibilities.

Kanu was brought before a court on the grounds of being arrested...!

That's not the same as being kidnapped and brought to court... You don't openly commit a crime to bring criminals to book.

That renders the case illegal and even inissible.

The USA tried people like Khalid sheikh Mohammed, who was kidnapped , in open court and sentenced him in open court. As they did for a number of other similar criminals. And it was deemed legal.

No clean country.
