Summary:
Raise the price higher to the point that solar is cheaper and people just go and help themselves (as usual without depending on government).

Private sector without regulations would aim for maximum profit so they would find their highest value customers and provide for them alone. That's what I would do. Band A+ and Band A max...

you're a big fool. Aren't people already generating their own power with generators. Do you know what its costing them .they already increase prices to 1000 for 4 units more than most countries with 24/7.

Their ripping you off and gaslighting you and you clap for them.

If you notice something about those countries most of them have one thing in common, they privatized power and allow power to be sold at market price.

I have already mentioned the example of Ivory coast, no 3 on your list, but to cut a long story short, they used to have blackouts 40 years ago. Today they do not, because they privatized power, allowed power to be sold at market price. In return the World bank was very very willing to help them with lots of investments and loans in their power sector.

Egypt has removed power subsides since 2014.

Nigeria has not done that.
my friend you have no idea what you're saying.

where is the sources to your lies.? Or Maybe you think IAM gullible and naive

We currently pay more for light than Ghana, Egypt and Cote divorce people with 24/7 light while ours is collapsing.

The thing is, we need far more than the world bank loans to fix our grid and the power sector

We also need to deregulate the power sector properly by allowing the sector to charge market appropriate prices so that they can make enough of a profit to pay for improvements and expansion and maintenance issues.

We need to stop the practice of people using power for free be it a person who lives in face me face you or a person who lives in Aso Rock.

We have a bad power sector because the Nigerian government and people do not want to pay for 24 hours daily power. They both want power for free. But the sad thing is there is no free power

I strongly suggest that everyone googles for the PWC 2019 paper on the liquidity crisis in our power sector. It would make enlightened reading.

the report is here.

See also here : 10 billion dollars required yearly for 10 years to fix power

Truth is bitter. Very bitter and unpopular
bullshit who uses power for free? When 1000 is 4 units. Something is wrong with your head. Ordinary small Benin have 24/7 light, you're saying you need world national budget to fix grid.

And Egypt is a frequent guest of the IMF, always requesting for a bailout. Ghana's currency the Cedi is notorious for its tendency to depreciate. If you spend beyond your means, your economy will eventually pay the price.

The Nigerian price is fair. It would probably have been lower if the electricity market was fully deregulated.

look at this slowpoke just who are you trying to fool. For the records, Egypt is clear of Nigeria.

Other African countries give their citizens 24/7 light without billing them to death.

And you lots are comparing yourself a to UK and and us when you can't match Egypt.

Speak about trying to fight an alligator but getting ripped apart by a wall deco

. For your info Nigeria pays way higher for less in the entire world and you still gaslight them that it's not enough they should pay more. What sort of greed is that?

Even the devil isn't this greedy. At least the devil will give you something before he collects. Your govt basically gives nothing back to it's citizens.

Power is not affordable.

It costs billions to build a power station...and even more to upgrade grids. Right now the UK is building a giant nuclear power plant. If I tell you the cost, you would scream.

It costs billions to maintain the stuff needed to keep the grid running, because one is not going to build a grid and expect it to work like that for centuries without breaking down. PLus all the components are imported, and companies that make them demand cash first.

I mean one of our new power stations...they had to design the turbines to our specs and the buildings to house them, and that cost a lot of money, before we began the building process (It is online by the way).

LIke I say here many times, it costs 160 NAIRA at least to make one kwh of power. Only 40% of consumers pay anywhere above that. Most of us pay below N100 per kwnh, and 40-50% don't even pay.

As a result the discos are not making the kind of profit that would enable them to pay for imporvements, or new gen systems.

And you expect miracles with their low profits.

If you like, you can shout and call me agbado. But the truth is, unless we are ready to pay above N160 per kwh or more, we are not going to get anything like 24/7 power.

And if you like, we can yowl all day about subsides in Europe and the USA...which apart from the fact that they do not apply to everyone, are paid for by the kind of taxation, that if Frog eyes were to implement it here, y'all would be screaming blue murder.

so how much tax does african countries like ghana, eygpt, SA, morrocco, mauritius, Tunisia etc. they provide 24/7 light for their citizens and they charge less than nigeria. at N1000 for 4 units but eygpt pays N121 for 4 units.

its crazy how you lots are here fooling gullible people who cant do research. Where in the world do they tax and bill hungry people for basic amenities of life? you bill hungry people so much and cant provide things that other african countries do with ease while way charging less.

Bro, let's start at comparing population so you can appreciate that the challenges of nations, and therefore the solutions or economic policies they embrace, must be different.

Libya: 7 million population approx.
Nigeria: 230 million population approx.

If me and you earn the same salary and I have one child, while you have 10, then it is logical I can feed my child best protein, like chicken and fish daily, whereas you can only provide 4 boiled eggs for all your kids to share daily.

Does not make me a better parent than you. Our challenges are different and the solution we settle on must be different.

Libya, with 7 million people, has a peak capacity of more than 1.2 miion barrels of oil per day. Nigeria, around 1.5 million barrels of oil per day for 230 million people. Is it difficult to see what is so glaringly obvious?
boy will you keep quiet with your foolish father and child egg illustration. i guess you think everyone's iq is -10 just like your own. isnt it a shame war torn libya doing better than your country.

you look down on other african countries when they're way ahead of nigeria. by your childish thinking every country will be better than china with it's 1 billion population but instead its a world power. fool

Lol. Typical 'japa' idiocy and myopia. Getting Nigeria to work as things "work" where you are is the point of the painful reforms initiated by the Tinubu Presidency. How much, for example, do you pay for power supply where things "work"? How much are you utility bills, transport fare, petrol bill, taxes (which you cannot avoid as Nigerians do with ease) and even council tax, medicine prescription bills etc, etc?

Shey na student visas you take reach there? How much is your school fees there? Or can you and other Nigerians who have reached countries like the UK, via the student visas route, lie you did not sell everything you owned in Nigeria and even borrowed massively to get there with many Nigerians even struggling and going off-grid because they could not continue paying the high tuition fee instalment once over there?

You people are too myopic, bigoted and self-hating to understand the set-up where things "work" , like heavy taxation plus high utility and education bill for example, is what is responsible for things working over there.

Things will never "work" in Nigeria if we don't embrace the same set-up they have where things "work" you claim to now live in. You praise where thing "work" but reject what Nigeria must do to become like that. Yet you cannot see the Dog-chasing-it-own-tail mentality of your and your ilk.
my friend close your stinking mouth. everyone is tired of nigeria. most nigerians will sell their kidney just to be homeless and claim asslum in the uk including you. a homeless man in the uk has a far(i mean far better) better life than you. even a dog in the uk is far better than you.

What was the minimum wage of most European nations, after the devastation of the second World War? Zero in most cases as rebuilding was the agenda then. Same as rebuilding should be the agenda for Nigerians now if we are smart and realistic instead of thinking we should be comparibg the kia car we own to the finest Mercedes Benz our established neighbours has.

I consider those European nations, like the UK Etal, to be at the same level with Nigerian of today, or even better, after they emerged from the second world war.

For example, they had severely destroyed infrastructure, water supply problem, sanitation challenges, severely disrupted power supply etc etc. Is that not the State Nigeria is in today?

Some of you don't wish to accept reality when you simplistically compare Nigeria in 2024 to UK, and while never taking into the national sacrifice the citizens of those nations made, in their most troubled days, to get where they are today.

I just don't know what makes some of you comfortable comparing Nigeria to the West in 2024. Perhaps you have never visited developed nation to note how far ahead they are and the effort and sacrifices everyone there, from leaders and followers, put in to create the nations we all now envy today and wish to 'japa' to.

Despite the severe destruction war caused, most of Europe was thriving by 1970 which was 25 years after the second World War ended in 1945. A testimony to the spirit and dedication of Europeans to see the big picture and make sacrifices to achieve it.

What progress has Nigeria and most African nation made since they gained independence 6 or more decades ago? Face reality. We are not ready. When we are, we will see the big picture and, like Europeans, we will be ready to make the appropriate sacrifice to get where we need to.

The challenges of Europe, after the war, spurred on Europeans to be innovation, hardworking and to seek local solutions for local problems . They embraced farming to eat. They gained skills to do more for themselves, like bricklaying and road construction, rather than expect their comatose economy to do it all for them. They embraced scientific research and innovation to provide solution and address challenges.

Our challenges, not caused by Tinubu, has only made Nigerians show the very opposite of the spirit that revived Europe after the war. Bretton Woods helped but ordinary European folks made the sacrificial difference. In contrast, Nigerians only know to complain and demand from the government without ever thinking they could and should be part of the solution.
i would love to know your source, the research that says the UK earn almost nothing and paid around $1 per liter for fuel in 1940?
you must be really daydreaming to think nigeria of 2024 is any close to the UK of 1940.

you know too well that the average Nigerian is stupid at best and will believe any lies they're being told. infact bullshit because all you've been saying so far is shit

Everyone displays eggs a week before BB date. I hope you know BB date is different from expiration date. Even here in UK, you will see milk and eggs whose sell by date is next tomorrow, still in the big name stores. Just that they will do 30% off. By evening it will be 50% off. By a day to go they will pack them to community centers to dash to the poor. Nobody throws stuff away even here where they are cheap as chips. E come be for naija where a crate is over 6k... are the shops making 6k on the whole batch they sold that day? You people don't pity yourselves, you want the small business man to kill himself to please you. Again I ask, what should the stores have done? Throw it away?
Instead of throwing the bad eggs they should sell it like that because it cost them 6k abi? Why don't you come back from the UK and come and start buying rotten eggs in Nigeria.

what makes Nigeria better than Ghana and ivory coast? Is it by gdp. I give respect to Nigeria, despite its challenges, the country still stand.. but I want something comforting in life.

If you come into Nigeria in the night, either by land or by air, you will see darkness everywhere. Beautiful houses but no electricity(light). No pipe borne water running, gated streets because of insecurity, traffic jam everywhere, dilapidated schools, public sectors..

Stop! I need a sense of comfort. For me to enjoy comfort in Nigeria, I must have money to solve those challenges we have. In Ghana, as a poor man, you can still enjoy comfort.

Ps: look at our public universities, 15 people living in a room.. as a rich student in Nigeria, I have to rent a room to get the comfort. Meanwhile, in Ghana, a poor student stays in a room of 4 student. There is comfort.

Nigeria has cheap oil but when you want to travel to another state in Nigeria, you pay for AC bus, that AC won't be on throughout the entire journey. Meanwhile, in Ghana, the moment the bus is loading and people are waiting for engers on the bus, the AC is on and that AC will be till the journey ends..

My brother, don't make me laugh.. we are suffering in Nigeria. I laught when Nigeria says we are giant of Africa. Giant with a clay feet!!!
you have time to be answering the idiots. They'll tell you it's a lie that there is suffering everywhere just like in Nigeria. Meanwhile Nigeria is harder than stone. There reasoning is worse than a pig's own.

Theyll nod their head when the evil people who hid palliatives tell them fuel is cheaper in Nigeria than ghana to make them feel like they're lucky. They're just living in a dream world.

That’s very necessary!
British colonizing and invading peoples land, looting their resources and still looting till date is the reason west African countries and others are not stable today.

It’s turn by turn, they looted our land and went to develop theirs, we are coming for their jobs and will take everything if possible.

Those people did west Africans dirty, destroyed the cultures heritage and land and still looted our artifacts which are currently in their museums.
I urge every west African to try to get at least the citizenships of British and other European countries so you can have equal rights with them. Those people owes us big time

These are the consequences of overhyping another man´s country while condemning your own motherland.

Ireland is one overhyped (fallacious GDP per Capita) country with her own peculiar social economic problems. She is many ways self insuficient and grossly dependent on foreign manpower. The other day i was at the Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda near Dublin, the majority of the staffs are foreigners, Nigerians, Pakistanis, Afghans etc

The ones ranting about foreigners should be ready to occupy the positions when the foreigners leave.
you call someone way better than you overhyped. While at the same time you're not in Nigeria.

"plan properly"
Nigeria is rough at the moment, but there's no guarantee that wherever u're heading to is full of green pasture.

So plan properly before making the move.

Several folks in the countries u're thinking of may be thinking of coming back to the same country u're trying to leave but just don't know how to raise their flight tickets.

Nigeria is hot right now and no one in diaspora wants to return there with the current economic situation, so research well about where u're going to prevent flying from frying from frying pan to fire.

Good luck bro
keep fooling yourself. Go to the embassy and ask to be deported it's free. Plane ticket no reach 500 euros from Canada to Nigeria. The truth is no one wants to come back. Accept that fact
