Minimum wage jobs is what most Nigerians do abroad, unless you have studied and you got their diplomas and certifications, a lot left here as bankers to go do cleaner, care jobs, those are minimum wage jobs. No glory in that, let those that want to be in Nigeria be, no glory in doing care jobs, na poverty.
Business people make 1million naira easily in Nigeria, how many hours will it take you to earn 1000 USD, you will pay taxes, pay rent, pay bills...
Earning 9 pounds an hour abroad will still keep you at the bottom of the food chain there, you can't go to fancy places, have fun etc, because service charges there are high. You just work, eat, sleep, work, eat, sleep, and hope to save enough to go oppress your village people. Just live quietly man, you are struggling.
i see where you're driving at? do you think it's easy to earn 1million per month in nigeria. you will need 10 million + capital.
give me a fraction of that money and ill go to the uk. and with minimum wage of over 2k+ i'll outearn you... while having a better quality of life for me and my future kids...
now imagine being employed as a medical doctor over there.
you willl earn 6k+ or 6Million naira per month while you're counter part in nigeria will struggle to earn 150k after being owned months of salary. so tell me why people wont want to japa from nigeria??

My point is will you live like a beggar abroad, won't you spend money...my point is minimum wage being paid in UK or America is not enough to live comfortably there, unless you live an austerity life, you will be in debt can't even save 1dollar. I respect Nigerians who do white collar and maybe blue collar jobs abroad, not minimum wage, minimum wage will only give you a poor man life abroad. Why do you think most people abroad are always on credit. Some people make your 1000 dollars, one million naira in Nigeria a day, without having to do shitty jobs. Stop thinking everyone is at your minimum wage level. Those at minimum wage level find it hard to get credit from financial institution because of low credit score.
inflation keeps going up, so those figures you are calling might excite you, but not people that have seen money.
My friend no one is talking about minimum wage here but about opportunities.. you're not even getting his point
it's far easier to make $10k in the UK than to make 1 million naira in Nigeria.. and $10k is 10 million naira

It’s hard no doubt and I don’t doubt any point you’ve raised. I visit Nigeria every six months and my last visit was in June this year. However I’ve realised that merely being in country A doesn’t always solve the problem on an individual level. For instance in Canada immigrants without a work permit are not able to work legitimately or even apply to work till they get the required permit. Thus an underemployed nurse moving to Canada as an illegal immigrant will also struggle. On a country to country level the developed countries offer more opportunities than Nigeria on many fronts but on an individual level the differences become more pronounced.
This year alone I have met Nigerians living under stress/duress in Canada after they sold their home to finance their studies at Indian run private colleges in Canada. Due to the exchange rate variation they’ve had to lose so much to come here. Their immigration status is shaky & they are under so much stress sometimes expressing regrets. In the same instance I’ve met Nigerians who moved to Canada with a permanent residence status and started working almost immediately after with things working out for them. Hence I see this more from the perspective of an individual. Some are thriving in Nigeria and some are thriving in USA or Italy or elsewhere.
just hear yourself. you visit nigeria once in 6 months and you're based in canada.. you're not living as a common man presently in nigeria that's why you're yearning dust..

Interesting
But i need to let you know that the country Nigeria is nothing to write home today. The rate of unemployment in the country is unbearable. Parents now discourage their children from pursuing a degree after high school. Even children themselves are also unbothered having seen their neighbours, uncles, aunties, nephews, nieces et al that has been unemployed for years after school. You'd imagine why can't they consider business right? But sadly only those from rhch or comfortable home whose parents, families could raise some funds would consider business.
I suggest you come back home probably for a month to see for yourself. Most Nigeria graduate are either into cyber fraud or unskilled labour like motorcycle riders, bus conductors and the likes. Those that are working earn meagre income compare to the level of inflation in the country. In Nigeria today, who you know is superior and much better than a first-class. We have first-class in Nigeria jobless or being underemployed. I have seen a family with 4 graduates and they still struggle to feed in Nigeria.
Nigeria in your father's time doesn't exist anymore. Our politicians had reduced the masses to nothing with hardship and unfriendly policy. I believe we all know relocating abroad for greener pastures is not always easy and living in your home country is actually the best. However, this only applies to those who had something reasonable doing not for those unemployed or underemployed graduates. Migration is not a crime. It is part of human endeavour. I see no crime in people migrating. People migrate for several reasons. Some economic, education, health, security et al. People migrate temporary or permanent
One thing you should also know that Nigeria doesn't come close when it comes to countries that are relocating. We do not come top 20. Countries that are doing better than us, their citizens still relocate massively for whatever reason best known to them. Nigeria only love making noise. How many people can even afford relocating in Nigeria today. Less than 5% can afford it. The remaining 95% are stuck. They obviously aren't happy but they had no choice. Reason why the rate of crime had gone up in the country. Once the level of poverty and hardship in a country keep increasing on a daily basis, obviously it'd lead to increase in crime.
What would be your sincere advice for a graduate who has been unemployed for years or earning #30,000 monthly as salary? What would be your advice if such a person got the opportunity to relocate for greener pastures? You'd tell that person to remain in Nigeria?
In your father's time first-class graduates are given automatic employment but that doesn't exist anymore. Unemployment and poverty level in Nigeria during your father's time was little compare to what we have today. Nigeria's population during your father's time was lower compare to what we have today.
Corruption, nepotism, pOVERTY, unemployment, insecurity et al
I don't want to write anything about Nigeria government because i believe you know they're the architect of all these menace we're going through in the country
leave that fool to be yearning dust, he thinks he's making sense.. they are chilling abroad and discouraging people from coming... you're even going too far...Nigeria of 2023 isn't even the Nigeria of 2013...

Its all hyped. I live in Greater Toronto Area and there is a neighborhood called Jane & Finch popular among many low income earners of African descent. The roads are bad there. Infrastructure is poor with high rates of crime. A high income earner will definitely not live in Jane & Finch thus to me avoiding poverty is more important than being in country A or country B. A poor man abroad will equally suffer hardship
Really. now dash me your visa and come back to naija since it's overated. i know you wont reply.. bloody fool.

It's expected.
Only few countries in the world if any at all, didn't experienced inflation.
Nigeria wouldn't be an exception.
Besides, even the president acknowledged this in his Nationwide address.
The only reason this is a news to us is because it affects us.
What we should be doing right now is to build for the future because we've already eaten off what we had yesteryears.
this isnt inflation. it's a total collapse of the economy...

I disagree with this ranking.
You can't just rank the cheapest countries to live in using only the price of commodities in the countries without measuring it with the minimum wage in those countries.
Rubbish ranking!
youre even agreeing with the lies.. cant you see there is no link to check the source.. the list was done in may 2023 before fuel became 600... and still nigeria isnt even in top 20... see the original here.. number 4 is colombia not nigeria and yet some fools are here rejoicing over lies.

It is true but also not true. With one thousand dollars, you can live for a whole year as a single person in a Nigerian city and live well. Smart phone, good food, good accomodation, good clothes and recreation even have a girlfriend but as a single person. Is that an advantage or a disadvantage for any country?
lol you must be joking, live comfortable in 2023 with just 83k per month...
transport alone for 30 days will swallow 30k, feeding 40k. rent 10k, and 80k is gone, no light bill, no gas, ...
how will such person now afford be able to afford a recreation or iphone of 1 million.... something kids use over there??

Cost of living in western Europe is more than fifteen times more expensive than that of Nigeria. Raw food is not the measure. Rent and services are.
thats not true nothing is 15x more cheaper in nigeria than EU. prices of things are on the rise...
some things are even more expensive in nigeria, because Nigeria import many things like phones, gadgets, clothes, shoes, they're more expensive in nigeria than in EU...

You just unknowingly explained yourself that things are cheaper in Nigeria. They can’t use their minimum wage to live like kings in their country, but they can use it to live like kings here. Simple. You hate Nigeria should not blind you from the truth
this just shows that your naira is useless because Nigeria mimimum wage will make you a destitute anywhere in the world...
the more useless the naira becomes the more cheaper things look here to someone over there due to the gap in the currency... mind you this only covers food and rent made in nigeria
what of imported stuffs. the iphone cost over 1 million naira this is a phone kids use over there because it's less than their minimum wage.. what of cars and other imported stuff an

Please what is your minimum wage?
And we are not talking of international students...am speaking of Britons studying in Britain vs Nigeria studying in Nigeria...
If you as an international student wish to study medicine in UK...you have to pay around £36,000 for a four year course...not the 1 year masters program you lot are doing ...
How many working hours do you have as a student...oya max it and do your calculations
I assure you that by the end of the second year ...you will either quit or be killed by depression....
If it was that easy....check how many have taken that route to become a professional in their field...
Madam or Sir...abeg forget it....
lol, With mimum wage of $10. per hour, working 3 hours per day partime on school days and 10 hours on non school days.. you make half that money in a year.. can a Nigerian do such? for a Britain paying $9k per year is small change. Go and sleep you E-rats defending this shithole...
