BlindAngel: Sorry to ask this question but how old are you? Also what do you do for a living? Why are you always buying dead Nigerian used cars? If you'd listen, sell the two Camrys. Then use the money to buy a tokunbo 2013 Toyota Corolla since you are really concerned about fuel consumption. I bought a tokunbo 2013 Corolla last two weeks. And I have been enjoying it. Fuel consumption is decent. I used 20k fuel to drive for than 110 miles. But it was combined city and highway drive. |

Iceking1: I think you are confusing yourself. I think the change of ownership you see referencing here is the one given to you by the car seller. But the licensing office should give you another official one when you change number plates. This official one will carry the old number and the new number that now belongs to you. Don't mind people telling you that you can't re a vehicle twice. That's not true. Car number plate is usually tied to an individual. Not a car.so a seller can decide to remove their number plate and sell their car like that. So in that case, is the new owner supposed to be driving the car without number plates if the car cannot be ed again? When I got my first car in 2019, I changed the number plate and the papers were now bearing my name. 1 Like |

I csn now see that they are all naija used. I'd advise you to sell the two cars - the corolla and Camry. Add the money together and buy a tokunbo 2012 or 2013 corolla. Make sure you don't allow mechanics tamper with the engine of the new one. Leave the thermostat intact. And you go enjoy. |

BlindAngel: Did you buy the corolla as naija used? And has the thermostat been removed? This common practice by Nigerians affects fuel consumption. |

2cribz: And the body of the car is now black or Grey, then otilo. Because it must absorb all the heat from the sun and heat up the interior of the car at every given time. 1 Like |

MirrorD: It's a good piece of advice to always stay with mechanics when they are fixing your car. Thermostat is not indomie. Catalytic converter is what mechanics call indomie. My car is black. And the roof has faded due to excessive sun exposure. Because black absorbs heat. I'll never buy a black car again in Nigeria. Because with just a little sun exposure, the interior of the car heats up. And you must use AC all the time. 1 Like |

MirrorD: What's the color of the car? As for maintenance, the truth is that if you don't want local mechanics to damage your car, you have to become a part time mechanic too. Don't just give them your car, become knowledgeable about cars too. Let me tell you how I did it when I got my first car then... Once the car had an issue, I would go on YouTube and type "what causes so so and so in 2007 Toyota corolla." I would get many listings, then I would watch as much videos as possible to know what's causing the issue and how to fix. Now, when I go to the mechanic, I simply direct them on what to do. And never let the mechanic just do what they want. Congrats on getting a new car in this economy. You try. E no easy to cough out almost 14m to buy car. You try. Don't allow mechanics to remove your thermostat. That will be the beginning of the end of the car. 2 Likes 1 Share |

To those that bought their first car when did you decide it was time ? Got my first car, which I still drive by the way on December 1st, 2019. The reason I decided to get the car was funny. I had been sick sometime in November of that year. Then one morning, it dawned on me that if I died now, no one knew of any money I had. And I would have died without enjoying the little I had made. I was 28 at the time. So I decided to just get a car as that was the only thing that would make me happy at the time. After buying your first car how much did you have left? So I had circa 1.8m in cash at the time and had another 3.4m in treasury bills that was maturing in February 2020. I got my car for 1.4m. It was a 2007 Toyota corolla. Naija used but with a tokunbo engine. Got it from Gazzuzz (RIP). You can do the maths to know how much I still had left after buying the car. Did you regret buying it? No. I never regretted it. And I still have the car till now. The car has been very reliable. And has helped my movements so well. I travel a lot both intra and inter state. And the convenience of a personal car has made my journeys so bearable. I've never used public transport for any of my journeys since I got that car in 2019. So the car has really served me. Car or Land first which one will you suggest? Just do the one that you need the most. I plan to change my car soon, and I still don't have a piece of land. I honestly don't fancy this idea of buying land inside the bush and leaving it for years to appreciate. I prefer to buy land in an already developed part of town (more pricey, yes). And building on it immediately. And that's what I am going to do when I am ready. Honestly, the money I used to buy my car wouldn't have gotten me a good piece of land in a developed part of town. In this life, you must realize that almost everyone has an ulterior motive when dishing advice. Most land agents will tell you to buy land first, and build a house because they expect you'll buy from them. But let's be realistic, the amount you'll need to buy a car and the one you'll need to build a house are never the same. For instance, the car I want to buy next costs 14m. But if I want to build a bungalow, I'll need nothing less than 50m, land inclusive. So we can't really compare house and car. At the end of the day, you just have to do what's best for you. If you want to go and tie down money in a bush, hoping for 20 years that it appreciates, that's on you. 2 Likes |

Someone else posted this car just above yours for 11.9m. And you are posting the same car for 12.2m. Both of you are middle men. Likely the original owner placed the car at 10m. |

RichIgboBoy: Put your key in the ignition and turn it to the on position but don't start the car. If the radiator fans come on, then your mechanic has removed your thermostat. Alternatively, turn off your AC and start the car. If the radiator fan is blowing while the AC is off as you just started the car, then they have removed the thermostat and connected the fan directly to the ignition. |

RichIgboBoy: Yes. And I still change it every 2k miles. But if you have removed thermostat from your engine and you use that oil, sludge will definitely build up in your engine. Also, note that my car is 2007 Toyota corolla. I would never use that oil on a more recent or modern car. Thermostat or not. |

curiobling: Lol. Why not? Your cooling system has a leak somewhere. I drove my car, a 2007 Toyota corolla from 2020 to 2024 without adding a single drop of coolant. 2024 was when the radiator went bad. And after fixing, I have not been adding water. Your cooling system is a closed system. So you shouldn't be losing coolant if there's no leak somewhere. 1 Like |

kelvinmnet: My car, a 2007 Toyota corolla had this same issue, exactly as you described it last week. Scan also showed the throttle position sensor was the issue. I cleaned the throttle body with carburetor cleaner and changed the four plugs. And issue was fixed. And it has not repeated till now. 1 Like |

Emzedz: Nigeria is not breaking up anytime soon. But I really ire the courage of the people betting on the naira for such long periods. Because with this high inflation rate, by the time you get your money back in a few years time, it'd be worth next to nothing. Bought my corolla in 2019 for 1.4m Today, the same car goes for 7.5m. There's no amount of compounding that would have turned 1. 4m invested in 2019 to 7.5m in 2024. 4 Likes |
