Evankc: In that case, if you’re applying online before September (say July, early August) you could submit the application without Medicals and then submit your medicals by web form towards that date if you still haven’t received a request by say a week before expiry. I don’t know how the process of withholding your upfront medical result would go if you’re applying at the VAC. |

ginablings: Based on your profile, while waiting for your GCMS I think you should seek out a couple experienced eyes on the thread and plead with them to go over your statement of purpose or better still provide you with pointers to improve your SOP. If I were playing devils advicate, I would wonder why you are not pursing a bachelors degree since you obviously have the funds available for that based on the fact that you’ve paid the college fees. Also I think it’s counterproductive to the helpful nature of the thread that people don’t post links of services that have helped them in the past. Posting a link you are in no way d with is different from rule number 6. Suggesting a website you’ve used in the past with favourable experience which you can translate into a teaching experience saves more time and is a better teaching/learning experience than telling one to look on internet at the numerous options / going back and forth over messages and that is different from promoting a website that you are d with. But anyway, what do I know. 5 Likes |

Evankc: Medicals are valid for a year. None of the options are objectively better, it depends on your situation. |

OptimusPrime21: I can see where the other people are coming from, personally I think instead of dismissing people’s fears or worries because the magnitude of yours is greater, its best to enlighten them on the possibilities. The magnitude of your experience doesn’t invalidate another persons fear or worries. 7 Likes |

peruz: Paying school fees has no effect on granting of TRV. There’s more to the TRV application than paying of fees. However, you need to satisfy the VO that you can afford both fees, upkeep and any other miscellaneous expenses for a year. Options available to you include but are not limited to paying of fees but be knowledgeable on the schools refund policy, or having the funds in your / sponsors . You can use a sponsor, co sponsor .. answer to this has already been hashed and rehashed on previous threads. And nope there’s no express application option for TRV applications made by Nigerians. 1 Like |

Adebayo2296: You can do all of the above in Canada. What you need to do is extend your port at the Nigerian Embassy in Ottawa before it expires, you can get it the same day .. probably less stressful compared to Nigeria. Thereafter you would use your proof of Enrolment in school to extend your study permit and visa if you wish. Ensure you do all of this before your study permit expires. So a good timeline would be to travel to Ottawa either during Christmas break or immediately you’re done Winter semester in May to extend the Nigerian port. Thereafter extend your study permit with proof of your enrolment from school. Ensure you don’t leave the process till late. Also your visa is only essential for travel, so it could expire during your stay in Canada without worrying about extension, but your permit cannot expire / you should make sure it doesn’t expire while you’re still studying in Canada. If you plan on leaving Canada at any point during your study you can extend the visa before hand. 1 Like |

Ayodeji787: Your room and board is the average price of rent, food and other miscellaneous accommodation related items. Unless you’re staying in residence your school wouldn’t provide you with this. Best guess is to look up average monthly price of rent in the area, add $200 for food and multiply it by 12 months. That’s to be on the safe side. You could multiply by it 8-12 depending on how long you’re gonna be in Canada before the school starts. However a school semester is usually 8 months so the lower limit is 8 Others is the total amount of money available to you - (sum of your school fees and room and board). This is dependent on the amount of money available for you in the statement of . You should make sure to still leave sufficient amount available in the for the sponsor. Others could also be money set aside for emergency and other things. To be on the safe side make it half of your room and board. But like I said earlier it’s dependent on the SOA. Hypothetical example School fees - ~$5kCAD Room and Board - I used $10kCAD (on the assumption that rent in my province is ~$800 and ~$200 For food) I multiplied by 8 school semester plus two extra months. Others - ~$5kCAD (my sponsor had over $50kCAD in their so I could afford to write that amount, knowing there was still sufficient money left for the sponsor) Hope this helps. 1 Like |

Okay you have enough time while waiting for your GCMS note to read through this thread to discover other documents that can your application. You can also PM me your SOP so I can review it, I will also advise you to PM other people you discover while reading through the thread who have offered similar SOP review help. Hope this helps |

Tjkeyzzz: If you have anyone in Canada who’s a PR / Citizen, that person can make an ATIP request on your behalf in order to access your immigration records. This is essentially what you do to get the GCMS note. The cost is $5 CAD. The application itself is done on an online portal. Thereafter you fill and attach the consent form (This essentially allows IRCC to release the information to the person applying on your behalf). This is the last thing you would do before submitting the application. I would be able to offer you more application specific help regarding completing the ATIP request if you go this route. However, you can also use other sites on the internet if you don’t have anyone in Canada. Unfortunately, I haven’t used them so I can’t provide good advice regarding the process. Other familiar with them would be of better help. |

LearnAndObey: You don’t need to sign it you’re filling and submitting online. Here’s an excerpt from a reliable site explaining why you don’t need to in an online application. “In order to submit any application form online to IRCC, you obviously need to 'sign' it. But though it is possible to "sign" many pdfs nowadays, IRCC hasn't quite caught up to that standard yet. (Though, based on the constant changes to this site, they are moving in this direction and we may see that any day.) For the main application your signature is taken another way: When you create a profile on canada.ca (or GCKey on any federal government website) you must both create a profile and agree to the and conditions. This is a roundabout way of taking your consent - the creation of the profile and agreeing to the various steps of the process is taken as a proxy for your signature.” 1 Like |

ahmedio2017: I’m sorry if this sounds presumptuous but I think it’s an abuse of this forum for you to expect people to do the hard work for you. If you have done the barest minimum researchwise you should know that you don’t need O levels at all. All you need is your Bsc.Ed. Also Google is your friend. Hope this helps. 2 Likes |

ahmedio2017: What is your highest educational attainment ? If Bachelor degree, then to my knowledge you would need either your Bsc/BA to be considered for a masters program in an accredited Canadian university. The process of application itself is straightforward and you should be able to do it on your own, however if you’re insistent on using an agent, you should at least ensure the agent informs you of the school they’re applying to so that you can their requirements on your own. 2 Likes |

kennykolabo: Sorry but I think you’re overthinking the application process You said your parents have filled all the necessary checklist forms, so they’ve saved themselves considerable time and money they would otherwise have spent printing forms or getting assistance at the VAC. The essential thing to know is to get to the VAC early, last time I went last year I think you needed an appointment but they can by that if they get there early. They also need to have the money in cash for submission, biometrics and other miscellaneous things (photocopy, taking port picture etc). Someone might be able to assist with the current rate but I would advise they take 5-10k extra for any additional cost. I think that should be all. They don’t need to worry about arranging the forms, the officers at the VAC would help you arrange and cross check the documents. Good luck to your parents tomorrow. |

Tjkeyzzz: You should immediately apply for your GCMS note. It takes on average 30 days, but I’ve had and read instances where it took longer to receive it. The point of the GCMS note is to provide you with the actual notes the visa officer made while reviewing your application, these notes also provide a clearer non template reason for the refusal. In the meantime, you might want to provide the exact documents you submitted so people on here could make suggestions on how to make the application stronger, you should also work on improving your SOP and start drafting your LOE. If I were to take a wild guess, I would assume your SOP wasn’t convincing enough. If you don’t mind sharing there are numerous people on this forum who would be happy to review your SOP to gauge it’s strength and weakness in order to advise you on how to move forward. 1 Like 1 Share |

Kenny4real68: I was previously denied based on purpose of visit, and this was because I didn’t explain the lack of progression between my previous course and my intended course. Your GCMS note would shed more light on your case but if I were to guess I would think it’s a similar reason. In order to address the reason for your previous denial you need to explain the change in program in a way that should not complicate issues because it should show your circumstance has changed. The fact that you chose a logical progression MSc after Bsc and a health science subject Pharmacology should help your case if explained convincingly. As per your previous choice, you could say you chose it because certain elements of the course appealed to you but after the refusal you discovered the pharmacology program and realized it complements / is a progression to your previous degree. There are numerous ways you could spin it. In your LOE you should try to explain that since you were denied, you reapplied to a program that shares similar foundations / courses with your previous course and also shows progression and how it benefits you and how you intend to apply that knowledge in Nigeria (that whole spiel). I’m sure you would have already gone into details in your SOP on why you chose Pharmacology. I think one would have to read your GCMS note and LOE in order to say/know for certain how you should go about explaining the change in course but I think you should definitely talk about it in your LOE. 1 Like |

Anamekele: It is neither a good nor bad idea. You just have to weigh the pros and cons. Personally, I would do the medical at my earliest convenience, just to get it over and done with because then you can just immediately the results / paper you get from the hospital when you get the notification to do the Medicals instead of having to secure an appointment at that time. A con is your medical is valid for a year so in the case that your application is refused you have a shorter time period to reapply using same result. To a large extent getting the medical request is a sign that bar any red flags in your eligibility/background check (I forget which step comes after now) you would be granted the study permit, so actually waiting to get the request if it comes might help calm your nerves and put your mind at ease. Hope this helps UPDATE I just read that your resumption is May 6 and you can’t defer again. I would definitely do the medicals if i can get it done so I can just update when/if you get the request. If I’m not mistaken, I believe you can add the results of the medical to your profile even before you get a request ? I would need someone to that. 1 Like |

makano: Nope, I didn’t do it again. If you read and understood my post I stated that even though I did my biometrics before 31st of July, it was still valid as at when I reapplied in October. And VAC billed for a second biometric test when I reapplied, even though I didn’t do the biometric test. I just submitted my application and left. That was why I made mention of the online tool on the CIC website that can be used to the validity of your biometric information and added that the VAC’s especially in Nigeria can be wishy washy. Thanks |

heggegg: Most major Canadian universities have a Nigerian Student Association (NSA). The U of T also has one, if you them by email they would be happy to help with all your U of T specific questions. This should actually be a pro tip, you should always find out if your school has a NSA, when I moved to Edmonton it was a member of my schools NSA that picked me up from the airport and helped me to settle in the city, going to school and being classmates with them was an added benefit. 1 Like |

Gunit87: Your UCI is your unique client identification number, it is an identifier so it shouldn’t affect your application, however it might result in the biometric information from your previous application not being recognized / applied to the new application. If you’ve linked your application online, you would be able to see your current application, as well as all your previous applications but importantly you would be able to see if the biometric information you submitted has been applied to the new application. I see you brought the issue of redoing Biometric up in a previous post, there’s a tool on the CIC website that you can use to the validity of your biometric information. From experience, the VAC in Lagos can be wishy washy. I I was billed for the biometric fees when I reapplied through them, even though I didn’t do biometrics and my biometric information was still valid. I did the first biometric test 13 July 2018, paid again October 16, 2018. Hope this helps 2 Likes |

042viber12: You said Atip.com/CIC ? Is that an actual site ? Well I applied directly from the actual site and paid the $5 fee and I’ve had an instance where I got the report on the 31st day and another instance where I got it on the 45th day. The email for a status request is You should add the request tracking number and the payment receipt number in the email you send. If you email them be aware that they won’t give you any information regarding the request unless you’re the person who made the original request. In my case they replied to the status request from the enquirer who wasn’t the person who made the request informing that they can only provide confidential information to approved representatives or the original requester and they didn’t reply to the status request made by the person who actually made the request (original requester). They only replied the original requester with the actual GCMS note PDF on the 45th day. I added that so you know that even if the original requester send a status request email they might not respond directly to it. Hope this helps. |

Johnsonkelvin: The answer to this question is school dependent. I would give the example for University of Alberta. The amount of tuition pay is dependent on the amount of classes you enrol in and other other services you choose and you enrol in these classes manually in the sense that you’re not automatically put in a class, you enroll in the class if the space is available in addition to fulfilling all other prerequisites. Likewise, there are numerous deadlines. There’s a deadline for fee payment after which you incur a cost for late payment, there’s also a deadline for when you can /drop a class/classes without fee or grade penalty and there are other deadlines as the semester progresses with varying fees and grade penalties for dropping classes, these range from refund of half the fees and a grade of W (Withdrawal grade), quarter of the fees and W, to no refund and W. Point is once it’s past the deadline for ing/dropping a class yiou are no longer entitled to a full fee refund for that class as it’s assumed you are officially enrolled in class and if you miss other subsequent deadlines for withdrawal the amount of fees that you are refunded decreases. Each school has different policies so once more for the specific amount you should the school. Summary is the information is probably on the schools website but if you can’t find it you should the ission / international department for your school regarding their policy on refunds. However, the only way you would be able to get a FULL/TOTAL refund on your fees is if you have withdrawn from all classes you were enrolled in before the deadline to withdraw from classes. And the refund itself is usually midway through the semester or at the end of the school semester / fiscal year ... if I right the U of A refunds in November, March and in the summer months June / July. Hope this helps. |

I am in Lagos for a couple months and i’m just wondering if anyone can advise on a good centre to learn either Android / iOS development. I’m well aware of courses on Udemy, Coursera, YouTube and a bunch of other sites but due to living arrangements and electricity problems I won’t be able to achieve the level of focus, drive and commitment I require with self study. |
