The good thing now is that the design is being replicated by many shoe makers around.

I doubt bata still exists. It was either bata or lennards for shoes back then.My Parents tried. God rest their souls. There was this particular key holder they use to push your back leg into the shoe, they had unique chair to sit on when trying the shoe and fine socks too cry

Chai Cortina of those days! As of 1980 to 1983 I did car wash on the streets to save and buy it! Very expensive at the time.
It reigned together with Lenards and Bata but it has a class or it's own.

Bata and Lennard’s shoes, Ahmadu Bello way, Jos in the 80s. We rocked them direct. All round footwear. From Normal school shoes they would transform into racing spikes, football boots, rain boots, sketchers for trekking, corrective weapons in Mama’s hands, mehn! It was a great shoe to wear then.

These are the original strong shoes before Biafrans started manufacturing their fakes in Aba. The leather of the original was very strong before they started using carpet to mimic them. A day to Christmas in those day, I ed rushing to one Biafran selling shoes in a public market, the shoe was shining and looked like one of these original bata.

I initially doubted it, but he squeezed the shoe and turned it to prove to me it was original until I was convinced, paid and left thinking Christians was set and to match my Christmas cloth. I worked it on Christmas day to church only to be disgraced while returning home. The shoe tore almost half way while people were gazing at me in public area. I immediately removed them and used my leg to walk home same day of Christmas. It was then I realized it was carpet they used to make it.

Indomie generation won't even know what this shoe is. This shoe was the no. 1 recommended shoe for all primary schools in Nigeria then. We were all looking smart and immaculate then with our white socks to match.

Oh! Let's not forget, the shoes had a very distinct and pleasant scent as well. Cortina doesn't see a shoe makers shop cos they don't spoil.
What is indomie generation? You are also indomie generation to some people! Life is turn by turn.

If you see all these Bata shoes on those kids then mehn. You go trip.

Very solid shoes. The sole be like erazer like say e go slip you but na lie. E nor dey chop.

Just dab it with neutral polish and it shines like new.

Unfortunately somehow Nigeria happened to them. I saw their store in Uganda. They still have quality shoes.
Even if they remain in Nigeria, how will people afford a 25 dollar shoe? How many can?
iukpe: 1:37am On May 02
At this time, leather meant a thick material from animal dried treated skin. Hence the saying, "Khaki no be leather". Today leather is produced from artificial materials.

Of course its not a yoruba word, just a product that became part of our bodies at the time.
