Rocked these nice strong shoes back then in primary school from Kingsway stores @ Lagos Island. Nostalgic times! Don't know if BATA still exists

aaah, DUGBE SHOWROOM for IB. i later moved to AEROSOFT SANDAL and NIKE ACG before bn down with Secondary very EARLY 2000s Racoon: kernniejay:i guess its the same i am TALKING about... its bn long i came around, i dont know what name the AREA became or what the company building is like now... there used to be a shop we usually buy NEW DESIGNERS then too, it is owned by saeed omo alhaja, who also owns 411CLUB at bodija, if u are a Secondary school student in early 2000 to 2003 and u no buy there, ur NIKE, TIMBERLAND, ACGs are FAKE.... its just beside the "BATA Company Building" forgotten kernniejay:nope not DUGBE ALAWO oo.. it is EMERALD EMPORIUM (OWNED BY SAEED 411 lounge owner) used to be ACCROSS BATA COMPANY, where pedestrian bridge is/was at, later the moved jus beside the BATA company and BANK, jus as you exiting the ONE WAY road from DUGBE ALAWO, linking the road to MOKOLA/ ADAMASIGBA 12 Likes 2 Shares |

Indomie generation won't even know what this shoe is. This shoe was the no. 1 recommended shoe for all primary schools in Nigeria then. We were all looking smart and immaculate then with our white socks to match. Oh! Let's not forget, the shoes had a very distinct and pleasant scent as well. Cortina doesn't see a shoe makers shop cos they don't spoil. 27 Likes 3 Shares |

Racoon: ( Someone can give a better story) Bata became Famad sometime in the 1990s, and not long after,.the shops started closing down. I guess losses were high. By 1999, it had ceased to.exist. There was some attempt by the original company at relaunching shops at Silverbird galleria in Abuja central district a few years ago, don't know if they are still open, but it's not the Nigerian Bata we knew. Someone can tell the tale better, this is from my own perspective Modified Thread from 2015 :https://nairaland.unblockandhide.com/2080837/how-bata-shoe-company-mismanaged 75 Likes 4 Shares |

I used one in my early secondary school days - in the late 80s. It's not only beautiful, but also a very rugged - highly durable - shoe.

Unfortunately somehow Nigeria happened to them. I saw their store in Uganda. They still have quality shoes.

So, it's Cortina? We used to call it "container" back then. The original of these shoes were something else. They were ugly, but they last. You will have to throw it away back then because it can outlive you if you're not careful. ![]() ![]() ![]() 24 Likes 3 Shares |
