Do you know Bata shoes known as cortina have been our one of the favorite school shoes in the 70s and 80s and early 90s

Do you know "Thomas Bata" is the found of the famous BATA SHOE COMPANY. He is an origin of Czechoslovakia who invented modern day shoe manufacturing process through the technology of the shoe conveyor.

Suffice it to note that Thomas Bata was to modern day shoe manufacturing process what the great Henry Ford was to the modern car manufacturing process!

Do you know Thomas Bata was born in 3 April 1876 and died 12 July 1932 , the company have been in existence for three century! Generation after generation.

kernniejay:

I only know the one at Queens Cinema in Ibadan.
i guess its the same i am TALKING about... its bn long i came around, i dont know what name the AREA became or what the company building is like now... there used to be a shop we usually buy NEW DESIGNERS then too, it is owned by saeed omo alhaja, who also owns 411CLUB at bodija, if u are a Secondary school student in early 2000 to 2003 and u no buy there, ur NIKE, TIMBERLAND, ACGs are FAKE.... its just beside the "BATA Company Building" forgotten

kernniejay:

I left secondary school around year 2000, though I didn't know Saheed Omo Alhaja but I know there are lot of designer sellers from Queens Cinema all the way to Ekotedo and Dugbe Alawo. They area still there till today as we speak. I think the Bata shop you were talking about is the one around that Lebanon Street at Dugbe Alawo. You are right.
nope not DUGBE ALAWO oo.. it is EMERALD EMPORIUM (OWNED BY SAEED 411 lounge owner) used to be ACCROSS BATA COMPANY, where pedestrian bridge is/was at, later the moved jus beside the BATA company and BANK, jus as you exiting the ONE WAY road from DUGBE ALAWO, linking the road to MOKOLA/ ADAMASIGBA

Indomie generation won't even know what this shoe is. This shoe was the no. 1 recommended shoe for all primary schools in Nigeria then. We were all looking smart and immaculate then with our white socks to match.

Oh! Let's not forget, the shoes had a very distinct and pleasant scent as well. Cortina doesn't see a shoe makers shop cos they don't spoil.

( Someone can give a better story)

Bata became Famad sometime in the 1990s, and not long after,.the shops started closing down. I guess losses were high. By 1999, it had ceased to.exist.

There was some attempt by the original company at relaunching shops at Silverbird galleria in Abuja central district a few years ago, don't know if they are still open, but it's not the Nigerian Bata we knew.

Someone can tell the tale better, this is from my own perspective

I used one in my early secondary school days - in the late 80s. It's not only beautiful, but also a very rugged - highly durable - shoe.

Unfortunately somehow Nigeria happened to them. I saw their store in Uganda. They still have quality shoes.

Vintage shoe. I will love to rock it again

So, it's Cortina? We used to call it "container" back then. The original of these shoes were something else. They were ugly, but they last. You will have to throw it away back then because it can outlive you if you're not careful. grin grin grin
