95% of people selling their cars is because it's faulty. They've repaired and repaired and are tired of repairing it so they'll just put it up for sale.

That's why I tell people to avoid Nigerian used cars cos na problem you de buy. They money you'll spend in fixing it would exceed the amount you spent in buying it.

Go to apapa those cars coming in from the ship, negotiate with a dealer, pay and carry your car home. You'll use it for up to 2 years before it starts giving you any major issue.

You are making this one up on your own. You would ask them if there is any fault you should be aware of and if you notice it before so and so date, you would return it. Let it be on record. They would tell you to forget about it and move forward. But the buyers are always too eager and forget to take care of this aspect before parting with their money.

Of course, some faults wouldn't be noticed immediately most especially if it mended just for you to able to leave their premise with your scrap. Bottomline, buyers shouldn't be too eager to part with their money.
I have bought fairly use vehicles at least four times and that's has always been my method. Immediately they refused to assure me and they became angry or irritated, I knew it was a packaged gabbage and move on

I step out of Lagos searching for a reliable camry 2004. I saw many dealers on Jiji and nairaland. I visited each of them with my reliable mechanic.

After checking several cars, we discovered that none of the Nigerian used cars is worth buying .
They always have one problem or the other. The most common is bad engines.

Many dealers even promised to give my mechanic 100k behind my back to convince me to buy this melon car.

Even the foreign pre-owned (used) vehicles have to be properly verified by checking the VIN because a lot of those cars sold are either stolen from Canada, U.S.A, UK or badly accidented cars. So, do your due diligence so you get your money's worth.

I think you should buy something of a higher model. Even spider is still a bit better. Camry are very strong cars starting from the years Toyota started making them.

If you still insist on 2004, Camry. My advise is buy the Camry that has good body, legs and internal features in top shape and bad engine. I have bought a Nigerian used car before with Tokunbo body and internal, even the inside was still smelling Tokunbo......but the car has bad engine. I negotiated lower to accomodate the replacement of the engine which I did immediately I bought the car.....atimes, it's better you buy your own engine, a real Tokunbo engine that you are sure about

Personally, I think you are trivialising this issue of sellers of Nigerian used cars by saying that foreign used cars (and their sellers) are in the same category. May be you have forgotten that many Nigerians don't even know what new cars/vehicles look like. Tokunbo is our common new motors in Nigeria because they the closest to new motors that majority of Nigerians could afford. The difference between the two is like difference between the ground and the space.
Less than 10% of tokunbos in Nigeria could have hidden issues while over 90% of Nigerian used could have hidden issues. What are you even saying? No be foreign used cars later becomes Nigerian used cars?

Not really, people buy brand new cars here, you can find Nigerian used cars that were bought brand new by the first owner. Used cars market is not just as simple as Nigerian used is problematic and Tokunbo is not, I could tell stories of people who got lucky with Nigerian used cars and unfortunate with foreign used cars, and the other way round, what's up there in my post is in summary telling people not to lose guard because the vehicle is Tokunbo, do the same thorough inspection you would do if it was a Nigerian used!
