A police intelligence officer ! to the wife of Taraba governor, Barr. Mrs. Anna Darius Ishaku, on Thursday evening died when the car they were traveling in, in the convoy of Governor Darius Ishaku had accident along Bali Jalingo road.

Two other occupants of the vehicle, a CIB police officer and a nurse are said to be in a critical condition at the time of filing this report.

An eyewitness who was on the convoy told our correspondent that the accident occurred between Bali and Garba Chede axis, along Bali -Jalingo road at about 4:45pm.

According to him, the vehicle, which was far behind on the governor’s convoy on their way back from Takum where the governor spent his Christmas and New Year break, veered off the road when one of the tires got burst.

The Oyo State Police Command in its bid to ensure free flow of information between it and the people of the state has released telephone numbers of Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in charge of Ibadan, Oyo, Ogbomoso and other towns in the state.

The Command in a statement obtained by DAILY POST Thursday morning said the move was to make the state safe for all.

It stated that security was not the business of the police and government alone, but business of all

Presidency Muhammadu Buhari is yet to decide on whether to run in the 2019 election, Minister of Communications Adebayo Shittu has said.

Shittu who is also the national chairman of the Board of Trustees Muhammadu Buhari/Osinbajo Dynamic Group said this after visiting President Buhari at the Aso Villa. Amon other briefings, he came to inform Buhari about the group and his appointment as the head.


“I know he has not made up his mind but I can say that some of us can assist him in making up his mind so that Nigeria can continue to enjoy stability and progress in our land,’’ Shittu told newsmen in Abuja.

Protesting residents booed and stoned Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state, as government drafted troops to quell the massive protest and to prevent mayhem.

President Muhammadu Buhari has commiserated with Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State over the reported killings, injury of several persons and wanton destruction of property in Guma and Logo Local Government Areas of the state in the New Year.

While expressing immense sadness at the “wicked and callous” attacks on even innocent children, the President assured the governor and people of the state that relevant security agencies have been directed to do everything possible to arrest those behind the regrettable incidents and avert further attacks.

“This is one attack too many, and everything must be done to provide security for the people in our rural communities,” he said.

President Buhari also commiserated with families of the victims and wished the injured speedy healing.

There was an attack on kitchen staff on duty at Ikot Ekpene Prison in Akwa-Ibom State by some prisoners around noon on Wednesday.

This is contained in a statement made available to DAILY POST by ASP Ogbajie J. Ogbajie, Command Public Relations Officer.

It said the prisoners seized an axe from fellow inmate attached to the kitchen, inflicting a deep cut to inmates’ head in the process and immediately made for the rear entrance to the prison.

“They broke the door with the axe and engaged the staff that chased after them in battle”, it added.

“At the end of the scuffle, 4 of them that sustained gun shots lost their lives while 7 were recaptured.

“36 are still at large and search parties have been activated to effect their recapture.”

Meanwhile, the Controller of Prisons Akwa Ibom State Command, Alex Oditah has ordered an investigation into the circumstance surrounding the unfortunate incident.

The appealed to of the public to assist the authority with useful intelligence that will aid arrest of feeling prisoners assuring that security has been strengthen in all prison formations in the State to forestall breach of security.

Former Speaker of the Katina State House of Assembly, Alhaji Yau GojoGojo, on Monday formally defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).



GojoGojo made the declaration in Maiadua, Katsina State where he was officially received by Gov. Aminu Masari and other top APC officials.


He said as a politician, he was satisfied with the leadership style of the APC, especially the transformation on security, agriculture, infrastructure and human empowerment, stressing the two years of APC at both federal and state levels were eventful.

He said he was also moved into the APC by the exceptional performance of Gov. Masari, especially on prudence, ability, security and education.

The former legislator promised to uphold the constitution of the APC as well as campaign vigorously to ensure its success in future elections, stressing “I would be very hardworking and accessible to our ”.

In his address, Masari commended the former speaker for taking such a bold decision at the right time, while assuring him of every from the party and the government hierarchy.

He said APC was not doing magic but was all out to correct the ills of the past through agricultural transformation, youth empowerment, promotion of security and infrastructure.

He cautioned the youth against drug abuse, indiscipline and misuse of the social media platforms to abuse elders.

He said the youth were the future leaders and it would be suicidal if they resorted to inimical practices.

The News Agency of Nigeria NAN reports that top party and the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Mustapha Inuwa, were among thousands of people who attended the event.

DPR offers free petrol to motorists in Mowe Ogun State

Motorists jubilated on Monday at Mani Petrol Station, Mowe, Ogun State as the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), turned Santa Claus and offered them free petrol.

The free fuel by the DPR was the result of a sanction imposed on the owner of the station, who had ignored an earlier warning to dispense fuel at the regulated price of N145.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that Head of Operations, DPR office in the state, Kasali Akinade, had earlier visited the station to warn the owner to start selling at the approved pump price.

NAN also reports that DPR officials had to return to sanction the owner because he refused to comply with their earlier directive.

Kasali said it had become imperative for him to make a “scapegoat” out of the station, so as to serve as a deterrent to others around the area.

He wondered why people would want to make life difficult for fellow citizens, saying the department has zero tolerance for such act of indiscipline.

“We got a tip-off that they are hoarding and selling at N220 per litre. We came here and instructed him to start selling at the approved pump price and forgave him for what he did.

“But as soon as we left his station, he reverted back to the old price and even stopped selling. We had to turn back and make a scapegoat out of him.

“This will serve as a deterrent to others because we treated him as a gentleman at first, but he decided to sabotage the efforts of the federal government,” he said.

He advised other marketers to quit short-changing the public, saying if they have any grievances, they should channel it to the appropriate quarters rather than taking it out on the masses.

Some customers who spoke with NAN expressed their joy at the DPR’s intervention, saying they needed such acts while also advising proper monitoring on the part of the authorities.

NAN reports that other stations visited that were hitherto not selling were made to start selling just as those who were selling above pump price were made to revert to the normal price of N145 per litre.

A married woman, identified as Mrs Anita Ekpeyong, has been beaten to comatose and thrown into a well by a stranger who promised to pay her for sex.

Ekpenyong and the man she identified as Isaac had a bargain that he would pay her N3,000 for sex.

 
According to Vanguard, the woman lives in an uncompleted building at Aladura Mosque Street, White Sand, Isheri Oshun, Lagos, with her husband, Ifeanyi, and their two children.

She left their home after informing her family that she was going to charge her mobile phone.

She said on the way to charge her phone, a man requested to take her home for sex, with an agreement to pay her N3,000.

Trouble started for her when Isaac refused to pay her the agreed sum after having sex with her in his one-room apartment at 4, Kilanko Street, White Sand, Isheri Oshun.

 
An argument degenerated into scuffle leading to Isaac battering and throwing her inside a well, abandoning her to die.

She was, however, rescued by a er-by who heard her shouts for help from the well, and raised the alarm.

After being rejected by two private hospitals in the area, she was then taken to the Isolo General Hospital by the Police, where she was treated for a week before being transferred to another hospital, where she underwent another round of treatment before she was discharged at the weekend.

Recounting her ordeal, she said: “I did not know the man before. He only stopped me and asked how much I would take for the service and I said N3,000. But when he finished he refused to pay.

 
“Rather, he threatened to kill me and dump my body in the bush. He started dragging me out of his house and at the same time hit me on my head.

“He collected my Nokia Android phone and the money I had earlier worked for. He covered my mouth with cloth to prevent me from shouting and gave me a hard fist on my jaw, which forced a tooth to fall off.

“He dragged me out of his compound to about five buildings away from his. At a point, I was so weak and ed out. The next time I opened my eyes, I found myself inside a well.

“The luck I had was that the water level was just up to my chest. That was when I yelled for help.”

Meanwhile, the state police command has mounted search for the suspect, Isaac, who is still on the run.

The federal government will have to pay N40.70 for every litre of imported petrol, to ensure the retail price remains N145 per litre.

The group managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Maikanti Baru, revealed this at a press conference in Abuja.

Baru stated that the landing cost of petrol is now N171 per litre.

“The landing cost comprising CIF (cost, insurance and freight) of petrol as of last Friday was in the neighborhood of $620 per metric tonne, so with the official exchange rate of N305 to the dollar, the landing cost should be N171.40 per litre,” he said.

“The government has consistently indicated that N145 per litre is the price and it has mandated the NNPC to keep the depot price at N133.28 per litre, so as to maintain a cap of N145 per litre.

“So, there is a lot of profit in between after taking the transportation cost of N7 off; there is sufficient margin for marketers in that PPPRA template at the price cap.”

According to the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) price template, marketers are allowed a profit margin of N14.30 to cater for distribution costs.
