The Anambra State Head of Service Barrister Harry Udu, has announced plans by the State Government to set up a Creche for civil servants, particularly nursing mothers. A crèche is a place, where babies and young children are cared for during working hours in the case of workers, Nursing Mothers Barrister Udu said this in his office at Chief Jerome Udoji Secretariat Complex, Awka during an outing celebration of one of his staff, who was delivered of a set of triplets after ten years of marriage. The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed an application by the Indigenous People of Biafra seeking to compel the Chief of Army staff to produce the missing leader of the group, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu. Justice Binta Nyako also over-ruled the appeal for lack of merit and proof, that the chief of army staff was indeed the last person seen with Kanu. Counsel for IPOB, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, had prayed the court to order the Chief of Army staff to produce his client claiming that no member of Kanu’s family had seen or heard from him since September 14th, 2017. Opposing the motion, however, the counsel for the Army, Mr. Akinlolu Kehinde, told the court that Kanu was not and had never been in the custody of the Nigerian army. Ejiofor on October 17 during the trial told the court that he is looking for his client. He said he had filed a suit asking the court to compel the Nigerian Army to produce the leader of IPOB alleging that his disappearance is connected with the invasion of his home by the Nigerian Army on September 11, 2017. The Federal High Court in Abuja on 18th of January 27, 2018 rejected an application by the proscribed group, challenging the order banning it. In a ruling by Justice Adamu Kafarati, the court held that the proscription order made ex-parte on September 20 last year was validly made. The court also held that IPOB’s application, seeking the vacation of the proscription order was unmeritorious and deserved to be dismissed. Source: http://anstalk.com/ipob-suffers-in-court-again/

The Supreme Court affirmed the conviction and sentencing of a former member of the Kogi State House of Assembly and ex-Caretaker Chairman, Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area of the state, Gabriel Daudu, for N1.4bn fraud. Daudu was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission before the Federal High Court in April 2010. He was arraigned on 208 counts of money laundering and misappropriation of public funds to the tune of N1.4bn. The prosecution lawyer, Wahab Shittu, fielded 13 witnesses and tendered 47 exhibits to prove the charges against Daudu. At the end of the trial, the judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo, found Daudu guilty on 77 counts and sentenced him to two years imprisonment on each count. The sentences on each of the counts to run concurrently. But Daudu, through his lawyer, Mr. Joseph Daudu (SAN), had appealed against the judgment. But the Court of Appeal, Abuja, in its judgment delivered on March 1, 2017 upheld the decision of the trial court and dismissed the appeal for “lacking in merit.” The convict then appealed to the Supreme Court. The apex court, on July 6, 2017 granted Daudu bail in the sum of N2m with two sureties in like sum and who were to own landed property and must be resident in the Federal Capital Territory. But in its judgment on Friday, a of five Justices of the Supreme Court, resolved all the issues against the appellant and accordingly dismissed the appeal. In the lead judgment prepared by Justice Kumai Bayang Akaahs, the court described the appeal as “unmeritorious”. With the Supreme Court judgment, Daudu, who had been on bail, is expected to return to serve his sentence. http://anstalk.com/supreme-court-affirms-conviction-ex-kogi-lawmaker-daudu-n1-4bn-fraud/ lalasticlala 1 Like |
