This thread just dey go one way because TGJ no dey around and everybody is agreeable Una see why its important to have contrarians? When everybody dey go right, they go left thereby bringing spice and talking points to threads. @ TGJ and Bannedlarger, you guys are probably the biggest contrarians on this thread with your contributions and you are valued. I only wish Bannedlarger would emulate TGJ and keep his posts civil, respectful and devoid of insults so I wouldn't be banning him ![]() 8 Likes |

meobizy: Meobizy on the beat. ![]() I don't know why I find your comment hilarious but I'm laughing so hard. I share similar sentiment and posted the below in another thread on this issue. The organisers are not Martians, they're Nigerians. 2 Likes |

chrisooblog: You are inadvertently making my point. The organisers are not Martians, they're Nigerians. They should have factored in our unruliness, disorderliness, anyhowness, the prevailing hunger and hardship in the country into their planning and anticipated the upsurge in attendance. I mean, how do you organize a christmas funfair, publicize it massively on radio, declare free entry, promise gifts and scholarship to a lucky few, and anticipate only 5000 attendees? Ko possible! The entire Ibadan will besiege the venue of the event, and that's exactly what happened. The only way the organizers could have limited and controlled the number of attendees was to have monetized the gate entry. Tickets should have been sold (at a subsidized rate) weeks/days to the event and that way only kids with tickets are allowed into the venue with one accompanying parent/guardian which should be stated on the ticket. (I digress, but this is what my church which is reputed to organize the best, and most anticipated children christmas party in my city does every year, and there has never been a stampede or rowdiness. Tickets were sold at 2k per child, and I purchased for my 3 kids. The turnout this year was unprecedented but the protocol people set up the ticket check-in points some distance from the church entrance, and only people with tickets were ed through). Back to the Naomi-Ibadan stampede Issue - From the number of sold tickets, the organizers can estimate the number of attendees for planning purposes, and those without tickets would have stayed away from the venue . No parent wey no buy tickets go get the mind and morale to dress up kids, and take them to a party to avoid embarrassment. Lastly. like you opined an open venue/field should have been used for the funfair event since entrance was free and it was "gbogbo ero". The planning was shoddy and 35 people are dead as a result. Parents/families have been thrown into grief and mourning. Like I stated earlier, Naomi and Hamzat OriyomI ordeal is only temporary. They'll be released eventually and will be alright at the end of the day. But l cannot absolve the Organizer(s) of blame in this issue. Cc; BlueRayDick |

MorataFC: I believe so. How does hacking an NGO website which is not a transactional website lead to money being moved from a bank ? Why did the hackers (fraudsters) wipe N160m and leave N20m? Why didn't he accuse Zenith Bank of laxity and complicity in the whole drama? Why hasn't Zenith bank released a statement about the missing funds? Too many questions and holes in the story. VDM dey dabble in irrelevancies and dey gba sometimes but hin no be mumu. I am leaning towards it being a hoax. Make we dey watch. 1 Like |

iamoyindamola: Don J unfollowing him is part of the plan to sell the lamba to the public. Some days back, VDM posted a video of himself cruising an AMG GT, and he went on and on about how he doesn't brag and does his things in silence and how Nigerians will be accusing him of wiping the NGO funds to buy the car but he doesn't care. At the very end of the video, he revealed the car wasn't his and will be returned to the owner, and burst out laughing. This stolen 160m NGO funds story is continuation of his fooling around. Moreover, the story no just make sense. Dem hack website wey no be transactional one, and dem move money from bank , how? VDM will come clean in a few days and refer to Nigerians as being gullible and eagerly awaiting his downfall. 1 Like |

BlueRayDick: Good planning and execution trumps good intentions. You organize a christmas carnival for children. You promoted this event massively on radio saying you expect an attendance of 5000 children. You declared free entry, gifts and even promised scholarship for a lucky few. Yet the venue for the event was a school compound? Did the organizers expect the kids to show up by themselves without their parents? For 5000 kids, they should have expected at least 2500 parents/guardians. . So could the school venue have accommodated 7500 people adequately? These are the questions. In my opinion, even if the crowd had not besieged the venue before the scheduled time, the organizers would still have had issues considering the turnout and the venue of the event. A stampede may or may not have occured, who knows 🤔 It's sad how everything turned out but people died and were injured. Parents have lost their children, an irreparable loss that can never be atoned for. Princess Naomi and Hamzat Oriyomi's current ordeal is temporary. They'll eventually be released and they'll be fine. Their connects and status in society ensures that. I only feel for the parents of the deceased. 1 Like |

GloriousGbola: Maybe, but the downside to that may be placing nepotism and over familiarity over quality. You know, "na my guy, so make I just accept him script and shoot the movie" kind of thing even when the story is subpar The product placements in KA's movies aren't subtle at all, that's the issue. |

Twoclans: That over dragging of scenes is one of the issues I have with Nigerian movies especially when some of the scenes and dialogue are just space fillers, and not so relevant to the overall plot. Directors need to apply more subtlety. I watch movies to be entertained and not to learn life lessons but since you and others have recommended it, I'll definitely give it a watch. 2 Likes |

BlueRayDick: Though Kunle Afolayan raised the bar by shooting with 35mm high definition cameras and his movies have stunning visuals, I think he suffers from working with the same staff for his movies. For example, Tunde Babalola is the script/screenwriters for most of his movies. Also. I do not like that he forcefully and indiscreetly shoves his commercial sponsors in our face in his movies. Lastly, I think he should niche-down and stick to historical mystery/fantasy/thriller kind of movies and not do movies of all genres. I consider that genre his forte. I really liked The Figurine, Anikulapo and October 1 a lot. He also seem to be focusing on his other business interests. His Afefeyeye restaurant, bar, lounge and cinema business are not doing badly at all. I enjoyed myself the last time I was there You no lie, he's been promoting the Afeyeye Restaurant and that his KAP Film Village and Resort in Oyo a lot on his socials. 1 Like 1 Share |

BlueRayDick: I also have this bias and share your sentiments As a rule, I only watch "critically acclaimed" Nigerian Cinema and streaming platform movies Off the top of my head, I liked: Brotherhood Gangs of Lagos Anikulapo Breath of Life Funmilayo Ransome Kuti The Trade The Figurine Elevator Baby 4th Republic Swallow King of Boys October 1 Citation Phone Swap Offshoot Afamefuna, A Nwa Boy story The Wedding Party King of Boys: The Return of the King Oloture Isoken etc The above movies may not wow you in comparison to foreign ones but they are good movies, and I commend the effort of the directors and actors As a rule, I avoid all Nollywood historical epic/war movies. I also avoid all Funke Akindele, Toyin Abraham and AY Makun produced movies. All the Alakada, Jennifer, Omo Ghetto, Merry Men movies are trash. Nigerian movies have come a long way but generally they're still far behind American and even Indian movies. |
