Hi all - for nurses/doctors who have travelled to UK for OSCE/PLAB, please is it more advisable to apply for a visit visa stating the exam as the purpose of trip or to just apply for a normal visit visa without mentioning the exam? I know both options are perfectly fine, but asking more from the perspective of better visa guarantee. I have a family member planning to come over for the purpose, so need a sound advice on this. Thank you! |

SamReinvented: Update on this - took the plunge and applied for 10 years. She got it o!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() Her last visa was only 6-months, so this was a big risk (especially with the costs), but was just tired of having to apply for each visit. 12 Likes 1 Share |

Hi house - please I have a question. I want to sponsor a sibling's masters from back home. The plan for POF is to send the money to a GBP in their name in Nigeria. My question is - which Nigerian bank would be super easy to send the money back to me in the UK after visa has been processed? I'm thinking of standard chartered, but I want to hear from those who have real experiences, transferring GBP from Nigerian dom s to the UK. |

Cyberknight:Thank you! How long after the expiry of the 2 year one did you apply for 10 years? Also, did you provide any reasons for the longer term visa? My mother’s 2022 visa was 6 months… and main reason she hasn’t visited again was the stress involved to travel to Lagos/Abuja to apply for the visa again. So hoping, she can do this once and forget about it for another 10 years. |

Hello house - Please has anyone applied for 10 year visit visa for their parents before? I'm thinking of going through this option for my mum's next UK visa, to eliminate the whole logistics & stress involved in applying for a visa each time she needs to travel... especially now that she is getting older. Last time she was in the UK was 2022, and she travelled abroad infrequently before then. She retired recently and I want her to be visiting every year from now on. Abeg what are the chances? Because the money go pain me if they don't give her the full thing. |

hustla: There’s a Nigerian partner in Goldman Sachs here in this UK and there are plenty Nigerian MDs. Nigerian VPs are like pure water. While people here are arguing against meagre £50k salary, I’m here aiming to earn a million ![]() ![]() 4 Likes |

adeolaspecial: In addition to the various advice that has been offered on earning more, I think you should also look into PROPER tracking of your monthly expenses so you can correctly identify what are the biggest/unreasonable drains on your finances at the moment and tackle those pieces. A couple with one child earning a combined net income of at least £3,200 shouldn’t be struggling by any standards. You should definitely look to earn more, but the reasoning for this should be to have bigger disposable income, increase savings/investments or enjoy some luxury, etc. It shouldn’t be because you’re currently struggling. During the time you were earning way more, did you manage to hugely save after you finished up paying school fees? Where did you redirect all that extra cash to afterwards? Any black tax burdens? I obviously don’t know much about your situation, but I sense that there maybe the need to look into cultivating better financial habits overall. Please also clear up your credit card debts ASAP and run out of that hole like you’re being chased. Wishing you the very best and hope you figure things out in due time. 7 Likes |

Mellady: Applied around March and got biometric appointment for early May. I did biometrics early May. Got my port back early September. There’s no fast track anymore. The people that I know that pulled the “long leg payment” ended up wasting money, cos they still waited like everyone else ![]() Your best bet is to start your port processing as soon as your port clocks 6 months to expiry, so you don’t run out of validity. 2 Likes |

justwise: You probably think I carry your matter for head everywhere I go. Sorry to burst your bubble, sir Justwise ![]() ![]() But sha, you can take your time to scrutinise my posts very well and you’ll find them. Afterall, you claimed not to find anything just 10 seconds ago, until I gave an example. ![]() ![]() 5 Likes |

justwise: If this is the closest we’ll get to you itting that your claim was wrong, I’ll take it. ![]() When you have some time though, please help us understand: 1 - why didn’t you answer that “simple” question from me and several others? Why was it that the instant go-to action was to hide posts, without even addressing the questions put to you first? 2 - haven’t people complained about the religious argument going on for too long as well? What has been your response to their complaint so far? How does it compare to the “post hiding” response to the employer argument that you were losing badly? Hope above questions give you some clarity. That’s if you don’t decide to start hiding posts again, because [insert a Justwise excuse when losing ground]. PS: in case it is not obvious already, I don’t do nairaland arguments. There was a reason I qualified the argument word with “Y’ALL” - it wasn’t for decoration, it literally meant that I wasn’t part of the argument. So ofcourse, I didn’t argue with you. I’d be very surprised if I did lol. 2 Likes |

justwise: The latest one I was that argument y’all had about people exposing their employer details. You were pro-“name your employer”. I asked you who your employer was. Not only did you not respond, you hid the post. So there you go ![]() 2 Likes |

justwise: justwise: This church matter no too concern me like that, but I just came to say that your claims above are not true. Most of the times that my posts have been hidden on this thread, it was because I challenged your opinion on a topic and you didn’t like it (or didn’t have a logical response that would solidify your position). Ok bye for now ![]() 5 Likes |

Solumtoya:Yep, that’s why I left the shalaye there, as it’s a helpful info regardless. And yes to your point, I initially thought you wanted to use your madam’s LISA to get a first house in her name, and then buy a second home in your own name using your own LISA. So claiming LISA first time buyer twice. That would work and it’s in-fact what I’ll do as well (the other way round). But I no get wife yet ![]() |
![]() |
^^^ on the above, I just read Solumtoya’s post again and realise he was talking ing the SDLT twice. For some reason, I thought he was talking about LISA first time buyer bonus. The laws on SDLT is a bit more nuanced, so I’m pulling my original stance. Make una no vex ![]() ![]() 2 Likes |

Zahra29: Government’s own website on LISA clearly says that you can use your own bonus towards a home even if your spouse already owns a home: https://lifetimeisa.campaign.gov.uk/ So again, what Solumtoya is trying to do is not mortgage fraud. It is perfectly allowed. The proof that you need is on government’s own website.

![]() |
Ralphlauren: This is simply not true. As long as the property deed is not in both their names and the mortgage was taken individually, couples can individually be first-time buyers at different points. And no, it is not mortgage fraud. I no get strength to argue sha. So if you disagree, no wahala. ![]() |
![]() |
Solumtoya: I’ll try… atleast until anyone decides to start dragging my choices with me ![]() My deposit is 10%, and I sourced for my lenders using the two mortgage brokers provided by my company for free. They heavily cut short the time of doing the search myself. The best options for me currently is Barclays, TSB and Halifax. I’ll probably ring them up myself to negotiate the rate a bit further and then choose. 1 Like 1 Share |
