Hi all - for nurses/doctors who have travelled to UK for OSCE/PLAB, please is it more advisable to apply for a visit visa stating the exam as the purpose of trip or to just apply for a normal visit visa without mentioning the exam?

I know both options are perfectly fine, but asking more from the perspective of better visa guarantee. I have a family member planning to come over for the purpose, so need a sound advice on this. Thank you!

Update on this - took the plunge and applied for 10 years. She got it o!!! .

Her last visa was only 6-months, so this was a big risk (especially with the costs), but was just tired of having to apply for each visit.

My question is - which Nigerian bank would be super easy to send the money back to me in the UK after visa has been processed? We got a 10 year visa for my mother as well, after she had had a 2-year one. If your mother meets the requirements, then go ahead and apply. It's just another UK visa, and I've got a few friends whose elderly parents are also toddling in and out of Heathrow every summer with their bundles of rubber-banded ports. Given she's got travel history and all that, you can try and she'll be very likely to get it.

My mother’s 2022 visa was 6 months… and main reason she hasn’t visited again was the stress involved to travel to Lagos/Abuja to apply for the visa again. So hoping, she can do this once and forget about it for another 10 years.

I'm going back in December through Virgin. I was there last December too and could see the banners at the arrival section stating that Nigerians with expired ports are allowed to return to the country.

Mine expired last month and i've tried to apply for a replacement but don't yet have the NIN number. I ed for it in Nigeria last year and i collected the slip. Truth be told, i'm sincerely not looking forward to that dreadful journey to the High Commission in London. The thought of that place alone sends shivers down my spine but you've gotta what you gotta do.

I've got a British port so the return trip shouldn't be an issue.

Your NIN should be on the slip that you collected after registration. That’s all you need.

Can people who have applied and received their port within 2months comment on the Number of Pages and duration they applied for?

I applied for 64pages, 10years and got my port in about 5weeks (Bio on 17th July, port delivered on 23rd August).

I wanted to confirm if the no of pages and duration affects the processing speed. Also If you applied for the same 10years, 64 pages and yet to receive your port after 2months also comment.

Hi guys, please i need your input in this. First of all, i apologize for my lengthy post. I moved into the uk last year april as a student dependent, i started working in may and have been earning a minimum a minimum wage with over time and the littlest i earned is 1900 including over time which enabled me clear my wife's fees and pay some bills added with the little she earned working 20hrs. In the long run she got pregnant and went on maternity leave a month before we welcome our baby in December.

She was on maternity leave, earning maternity pay which s me while i go full blast working overtime with same earnings not more than 1900. She went back to work in August and now on 37.5hrs full time as she has finished doing her masters.

Now with the responsibility of catering for our child who is now 10months, we had to adjust with our work patterns (Thank God for giving me an understanding manager and hers too) by picking shifts when we like to help us on who stays home with the baby while the other go to work. I had to let go working overtime as i work on days when she's not working and she works on days when I'm not working.

This has really impacted on my earnings and pay as i now earn the basic pay of 1800, and with tax, ni and pension deducted i am left with about 1600 sometimes lower if i don't work night shifts as we earn enhancement working night shifts. My wife is very ive as we split montly bills, spendings and all ( I know that this should even make it easier as she earns more now) , but the issue is lately the cost of living has gone up, our rent was increased, energy bill has gone up as we had to sometime put on the heater cos of the baby, his feeding, clothing and all his needs.

The bills are choking and i can even hardly save. My wife on the other hand contributes her quota on a 60/40 basis as i contribte the most as the olori ebi even though we earn same salary monthly. I have racked in credit card debts and all. I have had to cut down alot of spendings to adjust ( and that includes me not buying orijin bitters or going out with friends, going to the barber, i cut my hair anyhow i sabi, and some needs....lol). What can i do in this context as i am considering getting a new job that can pay more on same hours, but I don't know if the manager will be as understanding as the current manager i work with.

In addition to the various advice that has been offered on earning more, I think you should also look into PROPER tracking of your monthly expenses so you can correctly identify what are the biggest/unreasonable drains on your finances at the moment and tackle those pieces.

A couple with one child earning a combined net income of at least £3,200 shouldn’t be struggling by any standards. You should definitely look to earn more, but the reasoning for this should be to have bigger disposable income, increase savings/investments or enjoy some luxury, etc. It shouldn’t be because you’re currently struggling.

During the time you were earning way more, did you manage to hugely save after you finished up paying school fees? Where did you redirect all that extra cash to afterwards? Any black tax burdens? I obviously don’t know much about your situation, but I sense that there maybe the need to look into cultivating better financial habits overall.

Please also clear up your credit card debts ASAP and run out of that hole like you’re being chased. Wishing you the very best and hope you figure things out in due time.

Cut the BRP into pieces, put in an envelope, address to the location indicated in the instructions, buy a postal stamp and post like you post anything else.

Applied around March and got biometric appointment for early May. I did biometrics early May. Got my port back early September.

There’s no fast track anymore. The people that I know that pulled the “long leg payment” ended up wasting money, cos they still waited like everyone else . Maybe fast track can help with biometrics date sha.

Your best bet is to start your port processing as soon as your port clocks 6 months to expiry, so you don’t run out of validity.

My deposit is 10%, and I sourced for my lenders using the two mortgage brokers provided by my company for free. They heavily cut short the time of doing the search myself. The best options for me currently is Barclays, TSB and Halifax. I’ll probably ring them up myself to negotiate the rate a bit further and then choose.
