China, in the wake of President Trump’s latest tariffs on foreign trading partners, announced Friday it will hit the U.S. with a 34 percent reciprocal tax on imports starting next week. “The US practice is inconsistent with international trade rules, seriously undermines China’s legitimate rights and interests, and is a typical unilateral bullying practice,” China’s State Council Tariff Commission said in a policy release. The officials added that the move “not only undermines the interests of the United States itself but also endangers global economic development and the stability of the production and supply chain.” The retaliatory tariffs, which were expected after the nation responded to the Trump istration’s imposition of 34 percent tariffs on top of an existing 20 percent tax, will go in effect on April 10. The Chinese government also noted that it added 11 U.S. companies to its “unreliable entity list” and placed export controls on 16 firms to prevent the export of dual-use products. Beijing also announced that it would put in export controls on seven rare earth minerals, such as gadolinium and samarium. Additionally, a probe was kickstarted into medical X-ray tubes, originating from India and the U.S. https://thehill.com/policy/international/5231894-china-retaliation-donald-trump-tariff-agenda/ 2 Likes |

President Biden announced Sunday he signed a pardon for his son, Hunter Biden, arguing the charges against his son were brought for political reasons. https://youtube.com/shorts/xkfNUaZC1jM?si=w4YbqVzLtbRjqfCM The pardon clears Hunter Biden in both his federal cases. Hunter Biden was found guilty in June in a federal case on three felony charges over his purchase and possession of a gun in 2018, violating the law by concealing drug use. He pleaded guilty in September to nine federal tax charges, avoiding a trial. “No reasonable person who looks at the facts of Hunter’s cases can reach any other conclusion than Hunter was singled out only because he is my son — and that is wrong,” Biden said in a statement. “There has been an effort to break Hunter — who has been five and a half years sober, even in the face of unrelenting attacks and selective prosecution,” he added. “In trying to break Hunter, they’ve tried to break me — and there’s no reason to believe it will stop here. Enough is enough.” Both the president and the White House press secretary said multiple times in recent months that Biden did not plan to pardon his son. Press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Nov. 7, two days after President-elect Trump’s victory, that the answer was still “no” when asked about a possible pardon. https://thehill.com/homenews/istration/5016851-biden-pardons-his-son-hunter/ |

A former Russian oil executive has been found dead after apparently falling from the window of his Moscow flat. Mikhail Rogachev was found outside his 10th-story apartment in Moscow with injuries consistent with a fall, Russian media reported. Russian news agencies said authorities were treating his death as a suicide. Telegram channels close to the Russian security services said his body was discovered by an agent of the SVR, Russia’s foreign intelligence service, who was walking the dog of a senior spymaster in the building’s courtyard on Saturday morning. https://politicalwire.com/2024/10/21/russian-oligarch-falls-from-windows/

In the small village of Obasi, nestled in the heart of Nigeria, Mr. Chukwu sat on the veranda of his modest home, staring at the setting sun. The once lively house had grown unusually quiet, save for the occasional chirp of birds. It had been a year since his wife, Nneka, boarded a flight to the United Kingdom, leaving behind their decades of companionship. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GmBkUX6FAHQ Nneka’s journey wasn’t for leisure or adventure—it was a mission of love. Their daughter, Amaka, had just given birth to twin boys abroad, and she needed help. The bustling life of London didn’t allow for the community Amaka would have had back home in Nigeria. She needed her mother, and Nneka, without hesitation, flew to her side, leaving Chukwu behind. At first, Chukwu hadn’t minded. He understood the necessity of his wife’s departure and had even been proud of Nneka for embracing this new role as a grandmother in a foreign land. But as the weeks turned into months, and the months stretched into a year, loneliness crept into Chukwu's heart. Chukwu had been a strong man all his life, one of the pillars of the community. He was the father who led family prayers, fixed broken fences, and worked the land diligently. Now, the responsibilities that had once filled his days seemed hollow. Nneka had always been the heart of the home—organizing meals, caring for the grandchildren, and keeping the house vibrant. Without her, everything felt empty. Chukwu’s daily routine became a series of reminders of Nneka’s absence. The once energetic mornings when they’d wake up to share a cup of tea and talk about the day ahead were now filled with silence. The garden they tended together began to wilt, as his heart wasn’t in it anymore. Friends came by from time to time, offering comfort, but their words of encouragement did little to fill the void. One evening, Chukwu received a video call from Nneka. Her face filled the screen, glowing with pride as she held one of the twins on her lap. The scene in the background was bustling, as Amaka and her husband hurried around the house, trying to keep up with their new family demands. "Chukwu, how are you?" she asked, her voice laced with love but also a distance he couldn’t quite place. "I am well, Nneka," Chukwu responded, forcing a smile. "The house is just too quiet without you." Nneka’s smile faltered for a moment. She knew. She missed him too, but their daughter needed her. In her heart, she thought of returning soon, but Amaka had already asked if she could stay a bit longer—just until the boys started school. "I’ll be back soon, my love. Just a few more months," she promised. But Chukwu knew that "soon" had become an indefinite word. The demands of life abroad were pulling Nneka deeper into her role as a full-time grandmother, and with each ing day, the bond they had built over forty years of marriage seemed stretched across continents. Chukwu began to question the societal shift that had led to this situation. In their younger days, it was unheard of for women to leave their husbands for so long. But with more and more African children migrating abroad in search of greener pastures, their parents—especially the mothers—were being pulled along with them. In the village, Chukwu wasn’t alone. Several of his friends faced similar realities. Uche’s wife had been in Canada for nearly two years, taking care of their son’s newborn. Emeka’s wife had been in America since 2022, helping their daughter raise her three children. Together, these men formed a small group, meeting on Sundays after church to share their stories, their challenges, and their loneliness. They joked about being "bachelors" again but often found themselves discussing how things had changed—how their wives had become almost like caretakers abroad while they, the husbands, were left to manage alone. As time ed, Chukwu learned to adapt. He began to cook for himself, although his meals were never as good as Nneka’s. He tended to the garden, even though it lacked her touch. He spent more time with his grandchildren who lived in the village, teaching them the traditions of their people, hoping to fill the empty hours. But every night, before he went to bed, he would sit on the veranda, looking at the stars, wondering when Nneka would return. The house was still hers, the bed was still made the way she liked it, and her favorite chair remained in the corner, waiting for her to come back and fill the space she had left behind. And so, the story of Chukwu, like that of many African husbands, became a tale of waiting—waiting for the day when life would return to the way it was, and the woman who had been his partner for decades would come home. Until then, he carried on, holding onto memories and love, even as the world around him changed. 2 Likes |

A Shirt Dress is a stylish and versatile piece of clothing that mimics the structure of a classic shirt but is designed to be worn as a dress. It typically features elements like a button-down front, collar, and cuffed sleeves, similar to a traditional shirt, but with a longer length that extends anywhere from above the knee to mid-calf. Shirt dresses are often made from lightweight materials like cotton, linen, or silk, making them ideal for both casual and semi-formal settings. Here are some key features of a shirt dress: Button-down front: Like a regular shirt, the front opens with buttons, allowing for adjustable styling. Collar: A structured collar is a common feature, giving the dress a polished look. Cuffed sleeves: The sleeves can be long, short, or even rolled up, depending on the design and season. Belted waist: Many shirt dresses come with a belt or tie to cinch at the waist, creating a more defined silhouette. Relaxed fit: The dress tends to have a loose, breezy fit, making it comfortable and easy to wear. Shirt dresses can be styled with sandals, sneakers, or heels, and accessorized with a belt or a statement handbag. They’re perfect for daytime events, casual outings, or even as a chic office look when paired with the right footwear and accessories. |
