Nigerian foreign minister Henry Odein Ajumogobia discusses the challenges and prospects of Nigeria at fifty and the strengthening of Nigeria's bilateral partnership with the United States.

A must see,

We need more women like this in politics in Nigeria. I personally believe a female president will do better than the men have so far, because whilst women tend to think of their children and future generations men tend to think more of the here and now, how much they can chop or benefit.

Well done!

Revolutions don't have to be bloody. Nigeria can be changed by a peaceful revolution, as long as we eradicate the frightening levels of impunity that current exist in the country, particularly among the rich, powerful and well connected. We needs a leader who will declare war against impunity and big manism, so corrupt politician and leaders no longer go scot free or get fined for corruption but instead go to prison for 100 years + like the Americans do. I am sure they will change if they know there are major consequences for their actions.

Interesting, Sanusi, central bank Governor, criticised Jonathan's decision at the end of this interview on banking and economics. Not sure why the interviewer decided to ask a central bank governor a question about football or politics but I was expecting him to duck the question, but he didn't

Interesting report, but so sad, why is there no ability and consequence in Nigeria? In developed countries this would be a massive story and heads would roll.

@Insight04, don't be fooled by these big names "consortium from U.A.E for management", yeah right? Nigerians are too quite to over-rate things from abroad. This so called consortium may be a small timer in the UAE but they'll try to spin it as if it is a major conglomerate. Why didn't they give us the name so we could investigate the yearly turnover of the company.

If I told you a consortium from Aba, Abia state was coming to take over, would you get excited? I don't think so, well it shouldn't be different for any company from abroad, until you know for sure that they are a reputable company. 419ers de abroad too.

@kcjazz, na true word you talk. In addition I think the problem with Tinapa, as Imoke said in the video (http://www.greatnigeria.tv/video/72/Is-Tinapa-Failing), there is too much state goverment involvement. Governments have no business in ventures like this. It should have been 100% owned by the private sector but encourage and stimulated by the goverment. I think that was Duke's big mistake.

@tefund, I like your positive approach. How do you suggest we do this, i.e. work to make tinapa a success?

I ed Duke when he was running for the PDP presidential ticket in 2007; however, I am now having serious doubts about his financial dealings while he was in office and I don't think he has been able to clear the allegations of corruption made against him. How did he acquire T-Mart and how did his wife acquire the Women and children's hospital in Calabar and why was it sold to her in the first place.

Why are we so narrow minded in Nigeria. If this were in the US and a major project is in trouble Pres. Obama would fly over to try to give it a boost to create/save jobs and give the local/nation economy a lift but in Nigeria the president and ministers don't care unless they personally benefit from it or maybe if it is in their own states. This is what frastrates me about Nigeria angry

If Goodluck and patience Jonathan were to fly over to tinapa for a few days, instead of going to Dubai, it would help a lot. Can you imagine how much of a boost the place would get if Jonathan decided to host an Ecowas or AU summit there? Please Naija leaders, broaden your thinking and stop being so parochial.

True. What were the prices of the goods like when you went? Were they competitive enough to entice people who would normally shop in Dubai? There has to be something that would attract people from other parts of Nigeria and divert Dubai-bound customers to Tinapa, I must say, I can't see what it is.
Revolution: 11:20pm On May 15, 2010
Yes, I read that in the papers but given the number of shops now open I would have expected to see a lot more people, even if they are Cross Riverians only.

Has any one been there recently?

The Nigerian market is such a virgin market. The markets in the west are so saturated and competitive, a Nigerian would struggle to have success in the US, UK or main europe. I just wish Nigeria could provide the other essentials of life, like security, power etc.

I agree with @mikeansy, Rufai would make a better President. Compare and contrast their speeches recently at the same event and you'll see what I mean. Rufai is more presidential and has a better all round understanding of national issues, while Ribadu is more corruption focused.

Rufai: http://www.greatnigeria.tv/video/43/TEDxEuston--Nasir-El-Rufai--120509

True, however many Nigerians have started visiting Cross Rivers for their holidays and honeymoon that why it has become the number one tourist destination in Nigeria. I would love to tour the whole of Nigeria by road.

Wow! Idanre hills is beautiful. I have seen pictures of Sukur and some others before but never seen Idanre hills and 1 or 2 more. Why are Nigerians not good at promoting the beauty of the country. South Africa is probably more violent than Nigeria but they promote their country much better and earns billions of dollars from tourism as a result. Has else got beautiful unseen pictures of places in Nigeria?
Revolution: 6:39pm On Mar 27, 2010
Yes, I have also been to Plateau state and it is very beautiful, however they are not as good as promoting and exploiting their state's natural beauty as Cross Rivers is, and as you say, the violence doesn't help.

Donald Duke is a modern leader who I would vote for any day before any of the old guard. Those asking for evidence of what he did can see a bit in this video: http://www.greatnigeria.tv/video/35/Cross-Rivers-Tour

There are only a handful of leaders in Nigeria I would like to see as President in 2011. Top of my list is El Rufai, then Duke, and then Ribadu.

Now that they have exhausted our patience, SNG

(Text of Press Conference On The State Of The Nation Held In Abuja on March 4, 2010)- Gentlemen of the press: The alleged return of President Umaru Yar’adua under the cover of darkness on February 23, 2010; and the refusal by his handlers to allow any person, including the Acting President, access to him has further demonstrated the deep contempt the cabal that has hijacked the president to hold the nation to ransom has for the rest of Nigerians. That no one has seen the President over a week after he was smuggled into the country has also exposed the clique around him as a band of liars who have been feeding the nation with falsehoods in the last 100 days. Or how come that a man who was reported to be undertaking 25 minutes of daily aerobics suddenly returned home and cannot address Nigerians or spare a minute to meet with the man who was holding forte for him while he was away?

Had we not been vigilant, they would have continued to lie to us by using his name to issue all sorts of directives which the ailing President is not privy; like a spokesman who did not see or hear a word from him trying to play on our intelligence.

Two major developments in the last 72 hours have shown that we would be greatly mistaken to assume that we are dealing with rational people who would follow the path of reason and save the nation from a needless crisis:

1) The 36 Governors met on Tuesday night to formally announce their hip of the cabal and setting themselves against the people of Nigeria through their resolution that the state of uncertainty in the country should continue by not bringing the Yar’adua saga to a closure. And to show the Governors as the most self -serving group in the land today, they pushed for the next general elections to hold in January 2011 in order to jettison the Uwais report which stipulates six months before handover in order to retain the status quo of manipulation of the electoral process;

2 The Executive Council of the Federation shamelessly bowed to the to the blackmail of the Governors as they met on Wednesday without discussing the Yar’adua health situation which would have led to the invocation of Section 144 of the Constitution as widely expected by Nigerians beyond the useless "report" of a jamboree committee that went to Saudi Arabia on wild goose chase.

The SNG views these acts as direct affronts on our dignity as a people and an audacious challenge of our will to resist impunity. We are being told that what we think or feel amount to nothing for as long as the cabal thinks otherwise. We are already the laughing stock of the world and all those who are not inured from shame cannot be comfortable that this childish game of hide-and-seek is going on in the name of a polity that we belong. We must bring this to head without further delay. Every day that this goes on further diminishes us as a people and makes us look like subjects in a banana republic.

WAY FORWARD
Our patience has run out as a nation as there is limit to how far a country can survive on good luck. If we want to retrieve our country back we must do the needful. To this end we have resolved to settle for these irreducible minimum:

1. A constitutional resolution of the anomaly of an invisible President co-existing with an Acting President constantly undermined by the cabal by the invocation of Section 144 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria without further delay;

2. Urgent electoral reforms with a wholesale implementation of the Uwais report as the benchmark to restore the integrity of the ballot box so that never again shall we be governed by a set of officials with dubious mandate like those who have taken us through 100 days of the theatre of the absurd;

3. In furtherance of the above, the Acting President must urgently come up with a Harmonisation Committee on what the Senate and the House of Representatives are doing on the Uwais report;

4. A non-partisan transitional cabinet of the brightest and the best from all corners of Nigeria must be put together by the Acting President to chart a new course for the country while the Presidential Advisory Committee can remain truly advisory as the nation requires new thinking and new thinkers; and

5. Immediate implementation of the PUBLIC PROCUREMENT ACT signed into law in 2007 by Yar’adua but which has yet to be implemented because of the sustenance of the corrupt tendencies associated with the weekly award of contracts by EXCOF.

CALL TO ACTION
It must be stated that the position of the Save Nigeria Group is that the entirely of the crises we are facing in this country today came about from lack of true and able leadership at all levels of government. To redress this issue, Nigeria must be given the right to elect their leaders through the institutionalization of a functional and transparent electoral reform process. We must have the choice to determine who governs us.

For now, in demonstration of our readiness to show in concrete that we mean that ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, we are rolling out graduated measures to retrieve our country from the cabal. The first in the series is a mass movement to convey the feelings of Nigerians to the next meeting of EXCOF in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Wednesday March 10, 2010.This shall be a prelude to other forms of nationwide civil disobedience measures to put a final closure to the shenanigans of the cabal and enforce electoral reforms to ensure that we are no longer dealt with in the old ways.

We extend fraternal calls to all social formations in Nigeria and all our country men and women for cooperation in the just struggle to save Nigeria, change it and make it great. We are in for a sustained and focused struggle to end the second slavery. We do not promise that this road will not be rough; it’s just that there is no other way if we are committed to salvaging our country. But one thing we are absolutely sure of is that victory is certain.

And for the umpteenth time we appeal to men of the armed forces to allow the interplay of democratic forces to resolve whatever vis at stake as we are resolved that a military coup will not be tolerated in our country again.

Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!

Watch this interview with Obasanjo, he visibly gets angry but remains respectful because the interviewer commands respect. Why don't we have any Nigerian Journalist who can challenge our leaders like this? If this had been a Nigerian journalist he (Obj) would have told him to SHUTUP and the journalist would have shutup like a wimp.
