PrideofLincoln1:Exactly. People tip 15 to 20% at restaurants anyway. Like I posted earlier, Costco has been paying that 15 bucks an hour for the last two years and they are still making tons of cash. Everytime I go to Costco, there is no day that I won't have to queue outside before getting a spot inside to shop despite paying hip fees. If Costco can do it, I see no reason why other mega cooperation can't do it. Corners shop or other smaller businesses may be exempted, but not all these billion dollar cooperations. Would a cooperation like McDonald's move production of burger patties and buns to China? I don't think so. I am surprised that magats are not calling that GOP Senator a socialist. Maybe I am just a good person, I would rather pay a little more for my coffee, just so that that low income workers can earn a little more. I just find that the conservative party in Canada are more reasonable than than elsewhere in the world. Alberta, often called the Texas of the north and one of the two most conservative provinces in Canada was the first to implement a $15 per hour minimum wage in Canada some years ago, and all these businesses did not close shop. Prior to the $15 per hour minimum wage, it was $13.65 which was still the highest in the country before it was bumped up. 3 Likes |

basilico: Indeed automate is an option, and has already happened with the likes of Ford half a century ago, McDonalds and Walmart a decade ago, and just yesterday, Amazon opened a fully automated supermarket in UK. And that's not because of the minimum wage but because of profit seeking by reducing their wage bill, so it would be wrong to blame the minimum wage for it. If you were old enough in the 80s and 90s you'd "Productivity" was the management buzzword of the time as companies sought efficiencies and cost reductions by further automating. Like I said, tricky, as companies will find ways to get around paying the minimum wage since you'd not find it easy to impose US tax on robots in China or Mexico. By the way, are you aware US companies keep their revenue abroad? They buy US debt in the form of treasury bills and earn interest from US with it too, to show you how dubious company managers can be. 3 Likes |

salford1:You nailed it as usual my man. Imagine a useless Qanon ing Senator from Missouri trying to safe face telling people that $10 will be a compromise for Republicans so the Multi Billion $$$ corporations and their executives can get Trillions of Dollars in tax cuts while the low income people in America are being subsidized by the Government through welfare and Medicaid because the peanuts they earn monthly can't sustain them for two weeks. This is a fight the Republicans can't win and 2022 is around the corner for us all to witness. Covid 19 stimulus was just out from the House and no single Republican Senator voted for it in the Senate. If it's tax cuts for the likes of Bezos, Musks, Gates and others, these worthless Republicons will be jumping over each other to give them a tax cuts that they do not need. Thank God that in America, we resolve our differences at the polls and 2022 will be a disastrous year for the Republicans. I pray they keep on their self destruction. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

As per jobs moving abroad if minimum wage is increased, Walmart and some other big cooperations have been importing from China for donkey years anyway. Same people resisting increment to the minimum wage would complain about high cost of items if Walmart were to produce all it's stuffs in the country. This reminds me of my co-workers often complaining about Tim Hortons, McDonald's, Popeyes, burger king e.t.c hiring mostly Filipinos and other migrant workers over white high school kids. These same dudes also deliberately ignore the fact that high school kids, even though living for free with mum and dad, would instantly reject those $10 per hour minimum wage job. They would rather sit at home and play video games instead of working like a slave just so some CEO's and shareholders can earn fat wages/bonuses and high returns for shareholders. The Lebanese dude operating the 7 McDonald's franchise in my city drives like 3 different types of Bentley around town. When an immigrants living with 5 other immigrants in a 3 bed apartment gets hired at these $10 per hour minimum jobs, these same very conservative co-workers complain about foreigners taking their kid's jobs. I just don't get it. 4 Likes 1 Share |

salford1:I when I was a Jnr in High School, my first real part time job was at a store called Goldblatts then and the minimum wage was a little over $4 then but my Brother and I do not mind because we were living with our parents and we were doing that job not to get in trouble. Nowadays, a lot of those minimum wage earners have spouses or children to cater for hence they end up working two jobs and most of them are being subsidized by the government. Why should our tax money subsidize those who are making Billions if not Trillions of $$$ for Big Corporations that are sharking their employees while the executives are making Tens of Millions of Dollars yearly in salary and stock options. 2 Likes |

salford1:Not a single one of those Republicon Senators voted for the new stimulus bill the other day knowing that America is still in recession. It's now they how gargantuan America debt is after Trump ran up the National debt to almost $10 Trillion Dollars in four years. How could any reasonable person think these worthless Republicons have his interest at heart. 3 Likes |

salford1: That's why it's a tricky issue. The natives are too wealthy to do minimum wage jobs so the foreigners do them instead. The owners need the foreign cheap labour so they immigration to get it. The immigrants want the job as it pays more than is paid at home so they'll jump over walls and swim in shark infested seas to get them. And the trumps take advantage of sit down at home playing computer by magaing them to build that wall. 3 Likes |

salford1: American dollar is about 1.3 Canadian dollars. If your highest is 15CAD, that translates to less than 12USD. Infact Canada minimum wage is just over 11CAD which should be about 9USD. I don't know where these guys got 15USD from. UK minimum wage is about $13 and that's for good reason being the no of different taxes and bills we face 1 Like |

Ibime:Different taxes do not apply to Great Britain alone. Different taxes affects Americans too but for a Republican blowhard Senator to say $10 will be a compromise is an insult. How come these useless Republicans do not put a limit to how much these executives makes yearly. Some of them makes over $100 million yearly in salary and stock options. I doubt if anyone can live well in UK making $13 minimum wage without getting assistance from the Government. 2 Likes |

budaatum: Big companies like Amazon have automated as much as they can. They can afford to buy robots which work all day n night without complaining, no medical covers, no pension matching etc. However they put a human face. I like face to face shop when I can, a bit of online. Technology is a way to beat manrdated minimum wage Many companies can almost literally eliminate human workforce but have not been forced to so far. My take is that govt should stop poking its nose into people's lives, how they work, buy, get paid, sleep etc. Govt should just issue guidelines not force some matters especially to small businesses like voodoo shops. 1 Like |

basilico: Government can not just issue guidelines. Its like asking government to issue guidelines for paying tax or do not steal or shoot someone with no way of enforcing the line. People like trump will come along and steal and not pay tax and shoot people on New York streets and get away with it. I don't want that, thank you very much. But see irony and your hypocrisy. You say "govt should stop poking its nose into people's lives", but you want government to poke your nose in my gay bedroom and the inside of my womb! 4 Likes |

PrideofLincoln1: Anybody in UK can have their basic needs of shelter, food, health, clothing, transportation and education met on minimum wage. It does not mean you live in expensive areas, you simply live according to your means. Like Jesus said, the poor will always be with us, we just need to ensure they are not destitute. 1 Like |

Ibime:Are you sure about the bolded though. As per others like shelter, food, health, transport - some adjustments and a bit of socialism/government benefits/subsidies can take care of those. Indirectly, the government is still picking up the slack. I agree with the last sentence. 2 Likes |

Ibime:It's the same way in US but I still maintain there's difference between living. No one should depend on government when working full time while the people they are working for lives high on the hogs. To me paying people that kind of wages is tantamount to present day slavery. 2 Likes |

budaatum: I meant common sense guidelines. Paying tax is a must. Govt should protect life too, not force me to pay for those who dont want to know they can get pregnant in only 5 days a month and can take measures to prevent it. Gays can do their thing but should not force me to accept their beliefs that they was born dat way.I also have a mind too and I know that walking into an exit point is weird. And especially an exit point that needs to be meticulously prepared for an invasion. |
budaatum: 3:00pm On Mar 05, 2021 |
basilico: Paying tax is a must because government enforces it's payment, but no government is forcing you to abort or bend over and take a diq up the ass basilico. Or am I just ignorant of the fact that they are forcing you to meticulously prepare to allow a diq to invade your ass and abort your pregnancy? Do tell, because I must insist on defending you before they come for my ass too! 2 Likes |

budaatum: Looks like you never understood me. I meant Govt has a role in regulating our lives, but should limit its role as much as possible without forcing anyone to accept what the welders of power think whats right for my mind. Just that. Let govt create an enabling environment for me but not force me to accept what some crazies in govt determine how I should have a world view |
budaatum: 3:26pm On Mar 05, 2021 |
basilico: You are the one insisting that government is forcing you to abort and take a diq up your ass, when all that government is creating is an enabling environment for those who wish to abort or put a diq up their own ass. But I guess you will insist on not seeing the difference. 2 Likes |

basilico: Nonsense and rubbish! No wonder you think government is regulating your ass with a diq! The only person who has a role in regulating buda's life is buda, and perhaps you too should learn to regulate the life of basilico instead of allowing yourself to be fuqed by some government or trying to be government so you can fuq others! 1 Like |

budaatum: You still get me wrong. Govt should clear away from civil right liberties that we hold dear. What is govt doing forcing me to accept ideals I dont hold. Govt out of our lives, we can go shoot racoons and deers without some power brokers telling us we need to in the forest. |
