In my honest opinion, this is a senseless project for the simple reason that spending that $2.8billion to build just the pipeline would have built the largest Solar farm in the world(2500MW) right in Kano which could probably supply all of the Electricity needs of North West Nigeria.
There is some much sunlight wasting away in the north it’s a no brainer spending that much to build a pipeline to transport gas from the Niger Delta when has availability is not even guaranteed.

The current largest Solar Power Station in the world is in Pavagada, India @ 2000MW. It cost $2.1b. With $2.8, there is no reason not to do something like that with that kind of money.

The contrary, I think it's a worthwhile project. Nigeria has an abundance of gas and gas is badly needed to spur industrialization. This is part of the agenda since 2013 to link western, eastern and northern region through a gas code network. Everyone gets to benefit and no is left behind...
We have OB3 gas pipeline that will link the eastern and western region and AKK that will take gas from the eastern region to the northern region. Please don't view this as cheating or shortchanging a particular region. Everyone is carried along. The eastern region is replete with enough hydrocarbons to power the whole country to industrialization. This should be a welcome development...

The North rules this country I swear, everything is in the North. FAAN hq, NCAA... If Nigeria split, South will start from zero .

Please let's try and make reasonable and informed comments here. OB3 and AKK Pipeline Projects have been in the plan since 2013, before this istration. Oilserv handled the OB3 Pipeline project with a GTP stationed in Oben. OB3 and AKK Projects are purely about distribution of gas for more sales, industrialise the nation and stop flaring of gas in the ND (SS & SE) region. We can also lessen the demand and make petrol and diesel a lot cheaper if we start utilising more of CNG for trucks, generators and maybe Sedans and SUVs (Long term plan but very achievable). The lesser the demand, the lesser the cost.

Read more here: https://businessday.ng/energy/oilandgas/article/no-pipeline-ever-built-in-nigeria-measured-up-to-size-or-capacity-of-ob3/

For example, NG from Nigerian Gas Company, Aba Gas Station is piped and sent to:

1. Glass Company in Ogbor Hill (they manufacture all the beer bottles used by Nigerian Breweries Plc)

2. Aba Malting Plant (Nigerian Breweries Plc) in Ogbor Hill

3. Powergas Company in Ogbor Hill (they supply Compressed Natural Gas to Nigerian Breweries Plc Aba in Abia and Ama in Enugu, Awo Omamma in Imo States, etc)

4. PZ Company in Aba

5. 7Up Bottling Company in Ogbor Hill, Aba

6. Alaoji Power Station (TBC)

7. Many more..

We also have NGC Gas Stations in Delta, Rivers and Ikot Abasi in Akwa Ibom servicing the south too. There's even a Gas Central Processing Facility in Gbaran Ubie, Bayelsa State.

The point is, we are wasting a lot of gas through flaring in the SS and SE thus wasting our natural resources and severly damaging / impacting negatively to the environment. We still end up bearing the brunt, you know how and why? Firstly, because we inhale the black soot in Rivers/Delta States due to contamination of air caused by gas flaring. Secondly, no matter how much power we generate in the SS/SE region, it will be sent to the National Grid System and shared almost equally with every other state in the federation. Yes, the government needs to do more for SS and SE regions but

1. The gas we have and utilising now is wasting away through flaring and underutilisation.

2. More power stations can be powered by supplying this wasteful and underutilised gas to them.

3. More industries can be set up while existing ones can greatly benefit by the OB3 and AKK Pipeline projects.

4. The 3 tiers of government stand to make more money from all the gas sales

In summary, OB3 serves the purpose of taking excess gas supply to Lagos and by extension the SW. AKK does same to the North. In the end, Nigeria makes more money as a nation via sales, more power supply as more gas fired power plants are energised and SE and SE witness less contamination of air through flaring.

It is paining you that Mama Peace stole money but no infrastructure to show.

Lazy youth.

Hahahaha... that's what they are known for... stealing and stealing and no development in their state. On the other hand, the Tinubu they hate so much may steal money, but he ensures that the states he has control over is well developed by the incumbent governors. That's the difference between Tinubu and the leaders on the other side.

Senseless? Nigeria is not spending a kobo! it is not a loan nor an investment by Nigeria. it is a private investment. So if this fails, it is te investors that will lose. Do you think anyone with $2.8B will want to waste their money?
Also, power sources in the world will mixed. There is nothing wrong in using more gas in our power mix. How much land will the solar farm of that size require? Land that won't be available for agriculture again.
In addition, industries will use the gas. Also, the pipeline's final destination is |Europe, which will be a new market for our gas. So this project is a win win in all aspect

Honestly, this is the most nepotic project I have ever seen. You are right my brother.

The south south and south east are on a long thing in this country. $2.8 Billion Dollars is not a small money talk more of when you covert it to naira. Why are they channeling the resources of this country to the northern part neglecting the states that produces this resources and nobody is saying anything.

I pity anybody shouting one Nigeria in this country. Because is obvious it does not exist.

This is a PRIVATE investment! In the light of this, I don't understand your post

You are the enemy my dear and you made yourself so. Imo has more gas deposit than the entire states in Nigeria yet no such project is being built there but Kaduno that has nothing is getting the gas project. Funny country.

Please stop misinforming the people. Who told you there isn't any gas project in the region?? Currently Seplat, NPDC are currently building a $700,000,000 million gas processing plant in Ohaji that will process the wet gas coming from Shell OML 41 in Ohaji in Imo State. It expected to process nothing less than 800,000,00 million scf of gas that supply the power plants and industrial bases with Imo state and other states within the region. Please stop spewing enthic sentiments here, it makes you look ignorant
The AAK project is a welcome development by all and sundry as it will spur industrialization within that region and improve economic activities

I hope there is gold processing company or whatever in the East too so that all the gold mined in zamfara can be transported down there for processing though we don't have gold in the East but we still need it just like Kaduna need gas project.

All LASG offices and establishments are on 24hrs power supply, this was done since Fashola tenure.
Ordinary state rep can facilitate a better living condition for their people if they so desired.
Come to my end in Oshodi in Lagos here, our rep has upgrade our area, we have 18hr lights now, our roads are now tarred with sidewalks and we have streets lights too.

Rubbish. It has gotten to southern crude oil...they have quickly gotten all these expensive pipes.

Buying pipes to syphon the oil doesn't waste time. But develop the south na... Dey won't. No good roads but there are good pipelines channeling oil from South to North...fully guarded with military.

Their farmlands, Rivers, destroyed. They don't have money to clean the Rivers but to buy pipes worth millions of dollars is not a problem.

Shame on this country.

I pity the Southerners that are still sleeping...

Hehehehe grin grin grin

Igboland that has abundance of gas doesn’t even have this type of investment, yet the desert north is getting priority! You couldn’t make it up! shocked

You see this project? This will be the first to be extinguished from when the country finally divides. It is very painful to be neglected in your own country.

Look at China. See there giant stride developments in all sectors of their country. Nigeria can achieve that but man inhumanity to man has eaten deep.

We have so many projects in the east lying in waste due to negletion from the federal government.

Eko Atlantic is suppose to be at the finishing level now, but because it is not in the North, they are delaying it.

What of ports in the east, the coals, the lime stones for cement none was diversified just because of hatred.Am not even talking about railways again.

May God save us in this country

Eko Atlantic is a private initiative and doesn't need federal government investment.

That's up to the mining cadastre of Nigeria to determine. If they were a significant amount of gold deposit in the region, the data will be made PUBLIC to discerning investor to come explore

Of coarse Tinubu's camp wouldn't mind g any deal just like Obasanjo did in 1999 coming out of prison and still siding with Northern Elites

The Region's with less or no Oil with more allocation would easily side with North

Such Gas pipeline runs straight From SouthSouth and SouthEast to SouthWest power plants since and Yoruba Power Plant Owners like the Adelekes had being getting free gas from the east for long codedly while selling power at high profit margin

Such a stupid post! You mean oil companies give away their gas to power companies? For what? lol!!! Please grow up!

Kaduna refinary is intact... And will be used whenever we want it to function.

No that's up to the President alone to decide, Cos i don't think there is any indices that qualifies Kaduna for gas refinery of any sort. So same should be replicated in the East for the gold.

I am sure if the north is treated the way the south east has been treated since 1970 you will also complain, the AKK project is largely contractor financed......that will show you that the igbo owned oilserv is capable of financing a similar project in the south east whenever approvals are given. That pipeline will be operated by the financiers for 50 years b4 transferring ownership to govt. i stand to be corrected

Biafra or no Biafra if una do anyhow it won't take more than 50 thousand to get the bomb to blow off the pipeline, there by severing the link of the gas between the north and South.
So calm down oga. after all Militants has been blowing pipeline for ages.

You know your problem? you keep comparing Lagos to others states in Nigeria instead of comparing Lagos with it's mates like Kigali, Johannesburg, Cape town, Algiers, Cairo, New York, Dubai, etc.
You believe Lagos is better cause it has money than others states but you forget Lagos is still very filthy, and underdeveloped.
See, Lagos has failed and Tinubu failed Lagos since it can't even compare with all those places.
It not a matter of being very rich and still underdeveloped. it like Nigeria being the Richest Country in Africa and yet the most underdeveloped...what I'm saying is Lagos is synonymous to Nigeria. There's no difference.
and then I wonder why you Jubilate?

Yes, the Niger Delta leaders have failed us over the years but don't think Lagos is any different because it brings more money n economic opportunity to the table.
