The Federal Government has approved 173 centres and 30 state government institutions for the National Identity Number enrolment across Nigeria.
This was contained in a public notice on the website of the National Identity Management Commission titled, ‘ Approved Data Capturing Agents ( Digital Identity Ecosystem)’ on Wednesday.
The Nigerian Communications Commission had recently asked telecommunication service subscribers to block SIM cards not ed with NIN after two weeks.
However , the House of Representatives has asked the Federal Government to extend the deadline for the provision of NIN by telcos to 10 weeks.
The House, at the plenary on Wednesday , described the two weeks given to SIM card s by the Nigerian Communications Commission to provide their NIN to service providers as grossly inadequate .
The notice read , “ The Honorable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy , Dr . Isa Ali Ibrahim ( Pantami ) , has approved the licensing of 173 Agents and 30 State Governments/Public Sector Institutions to conduct enrolment of all persons including legal residents into the National Identity Database on behalf of the National Identity Management Commission .
“ Pursuant to the above , find the list of all the successful firms who satisfied all the evaluation criteria as stated in the Advert for the Expression of Interest ( EOI) of each of the respective categories in full .
The Commission congratulates all those who have been cleared to conduct enrollment of all persons on behalf of NIMC for data capture services .

Bro, this is all a charade.
I personally feel these guys are only looking for an opportunity to fine the Telcos hugely. Telcos cashed out big time this year so NCC sef must chop.
Is it realistic to enrol over 80 million people in less than 200 centers within 2 weeks? The Tele-density of Nigeria is high and there is a still a pandemic.
Why not use BVN since most people have that already?

It seems this government has hidden agenda on this NIN and SIM linkage because it doesn't make sense to ask millions of people to do this in 2 weeks.
Christmas and New year period when a lot of people in 'saner climes' are already talking holidays and thinking of where to go for vacation is when millions of Nigeria will start queuing like sardines because of NIN...and not that the government even get anything to do for you o. Arrrgghh
After all this initial gra gra, I'm 100% sure that they will extend the duration...na their way be that.
