Wike is biting more than he can chew. I can bet with my last dime that he won't end well.

Although I do not Wike, the current istration, or any of the politicians vying for power, the truth must still be told. This is serious. Banks and other businesses bought lands and have been using these lands for years, but they don't want to pay ground rent or tenement rates to the government for occupying and using these lands. The business in question has been using this land for 34 years and has not paid a dime. Our government, especially the previous istrations, needs to be blamed for this. 2 Likes |

A whole access bank, thank God, i have not put any money into my access . Access bank despite all its grand acquisition within and outside the country, wouldn't pay land rent.

Ganjafama: You're absolutely right, but putting politics aside, how can a company doing business on a piece of land for 34 years without paying the tenement rate or ground rent? Please explain this to me. 2 Likes |

Another typical Nigerian blame game. Must you be told to the right thing? Moreso they were served to pay but decided to ignore it. Difrent: |

Ikumapkayi: If you buy land in Abuja with a C of O, and after 5 years of ownership, a new minister comes in and and reveals that for 35 years the occupants (past and present) of that land have not been paying ground rent. Only the recent 5 years have been paid. Now you must pay for the 35 years that the previous owner(s) defaulted. How would you feel? #5m naira Γ 35 years= N175 million. How many of the occupants of those lands can afford such? You guys just read the news and start throwing comments up and down without knowing the deeper issues. Just because you a certain political interest. When the same problem face you or your family , you hibernate, change your name and start lamenting on the internet against the same wickedness that you once ed. Nigerians change your wicked ways. |

We have all the laws ... enforcement is the problem. The problem is ability and consequences. In this case the bank shouldn't be the main focus ... it should be the agency responsible for collecting the tax. But we don't see any action taken against the head or their executives. Why are they not investigated and held able? Now that the properties have been confiscated ...what next? Would they be auctioned or used for other purposes? This action is normal in the developed world. Consistent enforcement of laws will make a change that many swear is impossible because "we are too stubborn". Wasn't it the same we were swearing about wrong way driving in Lagos?...what happened to the stubbornness after enforcement?
