this amount is small compared to cost of living in UK, monthly bills alone can take 1k pounds from that.

In the London area, they'll be lucky to find a one-bedroom apartment for 1200 monthly

That would even be in the trenches.

If true, then why should someone advise Nigerian doctors not to japa to the UK? Is that not witchcraft?

BlackViper:
Where did you hear UK doctors are poorly paid? Or do you mean poorly paid by Nigerian standards?

Yes they are underpaid. That's why there is longer wait time in NHS.
Doctors and nurses are migrating to Australia in droves at the moment whith lesser work hours and better pay structure

How many hospitals and medical schools did he build when he was governor of Anambra State? You people will just be packaging nonsense for Nigeria. Tinubu may not be getting somethings right, but Obi have no moral justification to talk about doctors and healthcare, when he was governor, doctors where on strike for 13 months.

Don't mind him.

I what OBI said that doctors and health workers are one of our great comparative advantages

We should be building more medical schools and exporting our doctors

I'm happy South East took this offer but we need at least 20 medical collages in each state of the South East to export 10,000 doctors yearly and 50,000
nurses
Retard!
Export your medical Doctors indeed! 😂😂
Most Nigerians are obviously dull

Ask your uncles and aunties I'm UK.

If the money is poor then comeback home. They swear for una?

I can enslave for about 5-8 years and save money for investment in Nigeria or elsewhere.

Most unpatriotic post I have ever seen. Nigerians are so unpatriotic. This comparison is so unreasonable because the cost of living in the two countries is different

Don't mind them. The UK will not take a Nigerian trained doctor for residency. They want finished product.

Your wanting people to live in Banana Island or Okokomaiko would not change that.

Can't you read... that's there take home after tax, pension ...

Honestly it even more than that... that is just basic salary.. other enhancement like night duties makes it bigger.

I Junior doctor in UK earns a minimum of 3.200£.

Some earn as high as 4500 monthly after tax and pension especially those that are on 48hr hours contract weekly.

Your rent , feeding and other bill can't take more than 1800 to 2200 . So bad as e bad you will have over 1k to 1.5 minimum for saving every month . Which is more than what some some doctors earn in a years...

Let me repeat it.. your 1k savings at the end of the month 2m naira is more than what some Doctors earn in total In Nigeria

If u are staying in a 3 bedroom flat ur rent alone is 2500 pounds per month

Stop taking nonsense and provide evidence to back up your lies. I was a student of Anambra State university when Obi was governor before moving to Unizik to study nursing. I did pre-science in Igbariam campus and got ission to study Anatomy in Uli and I left Uli in my second year to pursue my nursing career in Unizik.

I'm from Awka south in Anambra state. I want an igbo man to be president, but you people should stop all the noise, talk is always cheap, but in of governance and performance, Obi performed poorly and he isn't going to be the president of Nigeria. You are just quoting statistics without proof. Before you insult me as usual, I'm a band 6 nurse in the UK. Thank you

Why not itemise the cost of living too and let's see what we have.

No be to hide behind a finger to fool people;do the breakdown for us

Basic salary is about 2.5k to 3k. After calls and night duty enhancement .. take home is between. 3.5k to 4.5k depending on your rota

Rent ... 1k
Feeding 500
Electricity, gas, Internet, council tax 500

1.5 to 2.5k bal for you
500 for miscellaneous you can still save 1k to 2k safely every month.

Some people don't even spend up to this amount monthly

Japa for healthcare workers in Nigeria will continue unabated because the naira has lost so much value that the FG will literally collapse financially if Nigeria tries to compete with this wage structure.

Here is the monthly salary of UK resident doctors converted to Naira at the prevailing exchange rate:

Below are the conversions for the monthly take-home pay ranges provided for resident doctors in England (2024/25 pay scales, after tax/NI/pension deductions):

Foundation Year 1 (FY1):
£2,300–£2,500
£2,300 × 2,147.24 = ₦4,938,652
£2,500 × 2,147.24 = ₦5,368,100

Foundation Year 2 (FY2):
£2,600–£2,900
£2,600 × 2,147.24 = ₦5,582,824
£2,900 × 2,147.24 = ₦6,226,996

Specialty Training (ST1–ST8):
£3,000–£4,200
£3,000 × 2,147.24 = ₦6,441,720
£4,200 × 2,147.24 = ₦9,018,408

Did you also consider how much the training cost? How much the average doctor has to pay back when they start working?

That's basic salary.. no doctor takes home less than 3k home in the UK... and that's their house officers which is like the junior of the junior doctors...

Nigerians after plab 1 abd 2 start working in the UK fron FY2 position minimum and rarely.. most .. more than 95 percent start as resident doctor which is SHO. There take home is 3.5 to 4.5 depending on you call duty.

At the end of the month you can save min 1k easily even if you reckless with money...

So that 1k is even more than what you earn in 6 months in Nigeria.. you can't even save 1k or 2mil naira in a year working as a doctor in Nigeria except it ur own hospital.

A year you can save 12k easily and that like 24mil
And you still have money in your
