You just took me down memory lane. I one girl in my primary 5 class that used to wear the black one. It was a very rare type. I had a crush on the girl because of that. lol

I rocked the "play time" sandal by Bata in secondary school. It was stole and I still bought another. Big boys with "dark tan" shoe polish in their bags.

Rocked these nice strong shoes back then in primary school from Kingsway stores @ Lagos Island. Nostalgic times! Don't know if BATA still exists

Bought them right from the Bata Shop in Ilorin in the 70s and 80s.

They had these templates where you placed your feet and they used them to give you the best fit.

Inrember running into classmates with their parents and siblings.......

cry

Will such days ever come back for Nigeria?

You don't need to have attended Government school in Onitsha to know about Cortina shoes from Bata, it was the standard school shoe for all school children from the 70s and throughout the 80s in Nigeria!

Bata, Dunlop tyre, Leventis all left this God forsaken country long long time ago.

Leventis still dey. Dey just moved there HQ from iddo house to vi. Dem get many companies under them now like frigoglass etc. Bata still exist in other African countries. Though Bata came back like few years ago to market their tomy takkies sneakers in naija but they gone now again.

Who told you indomie generations didn't rock dis shoe!
2000s wore this shoe to primary schools!
Dogalmighty17:
Indomie generation won't even know what this shoe is. This shoe was the no. 1 recommended shoe for all primary schools in Nigeria then. We were all looking smart and immaculate then with our white socks to match.

Oh! Let's not forget, the shoes had a very distinct and pleasant scent as well. Cortina doesn't see a shoe makers shop cos they don't spoil.

But it will not be like when it first came out. All the qualities and materials used on it now will be substandard!

The footwear is still much in existence. Some Secondary schools are still currently using it as a uniform in Anambra state.

Well, I'd say yes, but I buy from FAMAD STORES... and all BATA stores in Ibadan has changed to FAMAD STORES in the past 15 to 20 years or so....and they claimed formerly BATA.

So, it's Cortina? We used to call it "container" back then. The original of these shoes were something else. They were ugly, but they last. You will have to throw it away back then because it can outlive you if you're not careful. grin grin grin
Na lie na people wey go local school dey call am container.......container ko consumer ni

I didn't attend a public school, and there is absolutely nothing wrong in attending one. That said, those Cortina shoes were expensive and was generally out of the reach of public school students.
