It is small, too small but not bad for a start.
Rent would take 100 to 200k monthly
Same with transportation
Nothing significant left to eat and develop oneself

Why would you rent a house of 1.5 million if you are being paid 550k.

I earn less than that as Salary, but my total monthly take home is a Lil over 2M.

I am not saying it's a great salary...

It's fair.

But why do the guys above have to convert to dollar and pound like that's the currency spent in Nigeria!

Because my Microsoft subscription is paid in USD
Most tech programs and tools will be paid for in USD.
Cars and most things we use and will want to buy once working are priced in USD even though they will convert it before selling.
Only thing that might remain relatively low is food but even that is getting expensive these days so yes you have to convert to understand where you stand on the global scale of things.

If you understand the slightest of economics, you will see that it is absolutely brainless to be converting naira to any other currency in Nigeria.

continue pushing your head in the sand. It is one of hallmarks of agbadorians.

It doesn’t change the reality on ground.

If Nigeria wasn’t finished we would not be debating if N500k is big money or not.
Unfortunately I'm not from where you think I am from. What is wrong in debating about 500k? You want to continue to live a padded life. It's not sustainable. You must face the reality just like Trump is telling every nation that America can't continue to pad them forever.

You have an unproductive economy but you want high exchange rate. Is it reasonable?

bloody liar!people just come here and type rubbish. I have 2 kids, I live in ilorin, kwara state and with 200k I get everything we need including cereals, we still buy like 50k meat and pepper though. Hungry people living on garri will just come here and be typing rubbish. I'm a landlord and don't pay rent so I know nothing about that.if you choose to club and womanize that's your cup of tea. A family can feed well on 250k

First of all, you don't have to come out the gates like I insulted you, it makes you sound rabid. Me saying I earn 600 is possible, don't you think so? I actually earn more, but due to privacy issues I don't want to share the details as my employer can put 2 and 2 together. Not everybody earns 200k like you, bro. Some people earn more, based on experience, industry and several other factors, please understand I'm not trying to defecate on your salary. Now, so you know, I don't eat out, I don't even go out, I don't womanize and I don't drink, I smoke though and that only takes about 100k max out of my salary. But I live in Lagos and I pay rent. You live in Ilorin, don't pay rent. Our circumstances are quite different.

Well, 550K is about $400
Very good but not great
Stop converting to foreign currency. We don't use dollars and pounds. The main thing is the purchasing power. The purchasing power of that amount in Nigeria isn't so bad. But it will be terrible in the US or UK.

You are a Zombie, all the 16 years PDP reign was there anytime inflation was like this?

Omo, 500k na big salary for me. I will do management and calculations while spending it.

But normally, naija government nor dey try. Atleast minimum wage suppose to be 500k, as goods and commodities are now very costly. Or let the presidency reduce and regulate the cost of things in the market and strengthen our country's financial power, and that our 70k minumum wage will buy alot of things!

Even I know I am reckless with spending , I spend about 250k every month on sports betting
Why not invest that money you spend on betting and other stuff that doesn't help your finances into good US stocks and stable crypto coins (solana, BNB and BTC) monthly and thank me in the next 3-5 years.

For a tech bro, it is a miserable salary. He should work for the experience but continue job hunting especially for international roles.
It's not easy getting those international roles. The competition is really tight because many people have gone into tech after it has been promoted as a means to get a rewarding career. Only few developers will get those high pays. The rest will have to settle for crumbs.

Because many tech guys get jobs from abroad and they're paid in dollars
That "many" you mentioned there is actually a very small number. Only few will be lucky to get a remote position paying in dollars.

Okay. Noted. What’s your point?

Well, even though I am aware that school fees aren’t paid monthly, and I know that truly rich people don’t talk like this.

Let me go with your flow

What’s the idea behind coming online to brag about now much you pay for your daughter’s fees when you can clearly see how some people are screaming that they can barely eat?

What joy does it give you to make others feel like you are better off?

You clearly lack wisdom. It’s people like you that bring attacks to your poor wife and kids at home because your life’s worth is based on how others perceive you.

Life is but a breath, sir.

A man’s life doesn’t constitute of what he has. Stay humble. Even if you achieved what you have through hard work, encourage others not flaunt to them how much your daughter’s fees is. Completely unnecessary.

I wanted to comment on the post too but when I saw "monthly"; I just decided to scroll down. 👍

That's why he is comfortable living with it here in Nigeria .
Nonsense.
Minimum wage in Nigeria is N70,000
People are earning it and are not dead.
Minimum wage in UK is roughly £11 per hr. Or say £2000 a month.
Convert to Naira. N3,600,000.
And you will still FINISH all of it in UK and be begging for overtime. Because you are locked down and tied to spending that money in UK.
Abeg leave the guy and his N550k. He's doing much better than many of you overseas.
Small earnings,
Small expenses.
How can 70k be a realistic min wage. Your govt deceived you and you continue to deceive yourself. 70k is not a living wage. For an IT job, that amount isn't great

500k is no longer 500k three years ago.. that's the the level of damage Tinubu has done to this country
Are you now getting up to N500k now monthly or are you still N70k minimum wage hustler that you are blaming Tinubu almost for everything in life? Show us your original monthly updated pay slip so we can know if Tinubu is not even helping you. N30k minimum wage; how many of your governors could even pay then or not owing workers without help from Tinubu. Learn to appreciate your leaders

Do you think everyone doing an IT job will be lucky to get a job that pays thousands of dollars? Only a small percentage will get it. The rest will have to settle for less. IT jobs are not as lucrative as it is marketed. There is still strong competition and many developers are currently jobless or earning little.

Oga if you are on 30k or 70k wage, shift from my mention... your 70k or 30k cannot fully take me for a whole day, so don't come up here to measure deck with me

he worked hard to be a backend developer. Backend developers make dope money cos they are in high demand than front-end.

If you come be React or Flutter backend developer, you fit get remote job wey fit give you the least 50Million in a year.
You clearly don't know what you are saying. Do you even know what it takes to get remote tech job in 2025?

Abeg link me up with better shoes in idumota. I dey in need of quality leather shoes.

Also if you got the plug of a good caterer, help me with it abeg.

I don’t have a specific plug for shoes. The last time I was there, I randomly asked people for directions after explaining what I wanted. Be very specific, though (e.g., original, quality leather shoes, not imitations) to avoid unnecessary trekking. You can add "wholesale" to your description, and by all means, avoid those "Mandillas" boys. They're only after their commission.

Where in Lagos are you based?
