Banking jobs.

According to personal experience, I will say;

1. Teachers - most die in perpetual penury unless when they at the pinnacle of their career, they take deliberate steps to embezzle during their short time in positions of influence.

2. Journalist - They spend long hours acting as the fourth realm of the estate. A few smart and compromised ones quickly link up with one corrupt politician and act as their mouthpiece to survive crippling hunger or irrelevance as technology advances in their careers.

3. Lawyers - Outside the shores of this country, they are irrelevant and cannot practice their skill. In the country, if they don't align with the right chamber or godfather in the business, they quickly become charge and bail lawyers. I have seen lawyers die in abject poverty fighting a corrupt justice system because they refused to play the game.

4. Farmers - The runt of the earth. Every rich man today in Nigeria can trace his forebears effort to working the land at some point. Yet, farmers are not appreciated for the unique role in society. The government see them as underprivileged and no attention is given to them. Empty promises, failed hopes and gross abandonment from government, family and friends. The few rich farmers are government functionaries or yahoo business moguls who have had access to money through illegal means and use it as a source of relaxation and diverting funds.

Lawyers are paid 50k bro. Some even 30k.

It takes years for them to level up. Forget the suit and wig.

The judiciary. A man will embezzle about 1billion naira and will be given an option of fine of about ten thousand naira only while someone who steals a chicken for hunger will be sent to prison or correctional center as they csllit
A big injustice

Let's have the job you think was highly respected in the past but has lost his dignity or respect in recent time.

Perhaps if one knows it, one can avoid studying them or learning them.

Teaching profession.

Journalism is one of the jobs that have lost dignity and respect. It fetches money but is perceived as a rotten (corrupt) job.

I just hate clickbait. So long as journalists can swerve that, I have a lot of time and respect for them, especially since I’m a bit of a writer myself.

To be fair though, there is really no job that has lost its "respect". The advice for young entrants would be to have a strong math foundation, get into a good school preferably notably a federal university/polytechnic or top-rated private university, get a good grade and be well informed of the career/academic opportunities as they come by. Also, be prepared to change locations, especially at an early stage, if necessary.

Some ignorant people will come to say "Jobs are slavery". A big lie as the world has more employees than employers, and the most successful employers once worked somewhere or places to either raise their capital and/or garner experience within a structured environment.

That’s kind of the point.

Entry level bank staff earn not less than 300K per month. Some earn more than 400K per month. There are more well paying bank organisations than law firms. Also they don't discriminate against courses.

P.S. Permanent staff

I fear o,if you didn't add the bolded.
With the bankers eating corn and pear under sun and still sending their interns to buy mama put for them...

Even with the bolded,it's GTbank, zenith and those top notch banks that pay this much for entry level

In my days, they were people employed to translate English to local languages, these set of people were accorded almost the same respect as the original owner of the English language... Some families became very rich just by translating English to local languages.
Today, almost everyone can speak English and nobody need the services of translators again...
Bicycle repairing, and wall clock repairers too, they've all gone into oblivion..

The same teaching you demonised brought me my wealth and fortune. Shey u just dey buy your first car. When 21st century teachers are earning millions every month from teaching international exams online and earning good paycheck from Cambridge schools across Nigeria. No job is worthless. All you need are the required skills and staying informed. Some teachers are earning more than your so called tech.guys .Dont play

You see that Cambridge you mentioned I can testify to it.
I know one of the senior managers of Cambridge in West Africa, the man is living the dream life on a low, infact every person working with him, from his distributor to his warehouse person are earning well.

And to those saying 300k is bad in Nigeria, please let's be realistic. 300k is still good money if you are frugal.

You can still save and buy land with a monthly 300k.

Only cleaners are being sent on errands.

A lot of banks now revise their employee pay. WEMA bank recently increased their entry level pay to over 500k.

Banking job...

You see bank staff soaking garri with beans in the morning... especially those ones at Zenith Bank staff by Amigo in wuse 2, Abuja.

You can't enter Bank's bulk counting room in the morning without perceiving different kind of ugly smell like beans, okpa, akara (kose), etc.

Cocoa farmers during the 60s and 70s. Now the discovery of oil crippled this once lucrative occupation. You would commonly see those big men back then bragging about the size of their cocoa farms but now it's not the case.

Be Unto You

What would you advise an art student who is not well grounded in mathematics?

Any course especially in the lingustics or theatre art space would be okay. But if the person wants a high paying job after graduation, a foundational knowledge of mathematics is critical. Foundational means secondary school mathematics.

I have an engineering degree and work with one of the banks you listed. Everything you have typed up there as at today is false. Your assertion is based on what you know 10years ago, alot of things have changed, a whole lot.
