the government has to do something about this. Don’t you think it is worth going to report them to the ministry of education?

Someone that used to brag about his frequent visits to the palace of the Emir of Kano (during Sanusi's first tenure). Such people, even if caught red-handed cooking teachers and eating them with okra soup, nothing will happen. They are government backed. The right persons have been settled to look the other way.

I can confidently tell you that the students in that school learn very close to nothing. The workload on teachers is insane to warrant quality impact on the learners, try as the teacher may. Hence, WAEC and NECO was as high as 100k, this was far back in 2019. Of course, you dictate how many A's and B's you want. My own student told me that to my face, in other words, you can go to hell with your Calculus; we don't need it to WAEC.

Create jobs and offer the sultry salary you crave. Proud and senselessness is the worst combination. I spit on wickedness and ingratitude of some employees.

It's probably more profitable starting an after-school lesson at the front of your compound for primary and preschool students in your neighborhood. It's less stressful and quite entertaining for the kids as all you need to do for the preschoolers is read them story books and fun nursery rhymes and for the primary schoolers, their curriculum is not as stressful as secondary school ones and you can make it up as you go along by just reading the textbooks to them and improvising.

And you will not pay for rent as it's an open space at the front of your compound and all you need is a canopy and some benches.

I went to one such place down my street in Lagos at the age of 10 after school hours and it was fun and I also learnt a lot. I think the proprietor had a day job as a teacher and did this in the evenings part time and full time during school holidays and weekends but he was commited and engaging as a teacher.

The problem here is the employees and job seekers… stop showing desperation while on interview. Give them conditions as per why you will work for them. Give them reasons and make them understand that you might currently not have a job but you are not going to be overworked and paid peanuts.

Once Nigerians seeking for employment stop appearing desperate and know their worths , no private sector owner will treat you like shits, and also give them clauses that must be respected, if they go against it , it attracts additional charges per hour calculated by the number of days the contract got breached and sign it before accepting the job offer.

Do this and watch how careful your employers treat you. This is something every employee and job seekers must do to negotiate at least the price of one student’s school fees as salary. You can’t be accepting 100k naira as salary whereas students in that school pays above 500k as school fees..

If you must accept 100k a month, just tell them you will be teaching one class only and it will be once a week, maximum of 3hours.

Once you give your employer your power through desperation, even his dog becomes more valuable than you.

I built my self to where I am today, I don’t work for anyone, I told myself after seeing how employers treat their staffs that I won’t work for anyone while I was in Nigeria.

This is apt. However, whoever must follow this advise MUST be extremely adept and competent at his/her profession. He/she must possess skills that are uncommon and not easy to come by. Plus the individual must be flexible and have a fall back plan. I am a structural engineer and I deploy this method in dealing with exploitative employers. The fact however is that I am extremely versatile in my profession with theoretical & practical experience that cuts across an extremely wide variety of the subject matter in which I practice. So i negotiate with employers and not the other way round. After putting close to 19 years of practice in the profession I've understood the games these capitalist play

N35k a month ... does he live next to the school? ...and receive free meals? ...is he a certified teacher? Too many of us send our children to Private schools believing the more we pay the better the quality of teaching. This may be the case yearssss ago but in recent times it's all about the money ... Present day private school business is no different than church business.
No doubt...there are qualified and very good teachers slaving in most of these private schools. But what is stopping such a teacher from giving private lessons? .... using the school as a recruiting center? But then if I see the teacher use whooping instead of whopping .... he's not going to teach my child English ...maybe Math and Geometry.
