EmeeNaka:Today ruling you won't know the implications till days or months to come. 1. Are you aware that is the same state governor that will conduct election into the local government posts, because SIEC still under their control. 2. Secondly, the supreme court have constituted themselves as lawmakers and not law interpreter and this started during Jonathan's regime when the same supreme court said Jonathan has the right to sack Lamido Sanusi Lamido and the same repeated during Buhari's regime on naira design and mopping of old ones. They have severally go outside the constitution to establish new laws not in the constitution. 3. The ruling will make the governors to be more vicious and do everything within their powers to make their stooges to be chairmen, as they have been doing before now. 4. According to constitution, we only have 774 LGAs. What becomes the LCDAs created by many states? Because till date the constitution have not recognized them and no allocation for them till date. Would FG give them monthly allocation as from this month? 5. Coming months we would see, hear and perceive the effects of this ruling today. 6. For me, it is a full scale coup against the constitution and nothing more. They should have allowed the national assembly to tinker with the constitution than going through the back doors, since we are constitutional government and not judiciary government. |

Nigerians are watching while something worst than RUGA is going on. We're hoping for good Nigeria while things are getting worst, what's happening in Nigeria is not a mistake, it's deliberately done as the battle of the future is going on in the world and beyond. Nigeria can't never be good not to talk of better. Nigeria with this current structure is set for destruction. People who believe in better world are people who want this evil Nigeria to be destroyed. Release Nnamdi Kanu now! |

Eteka1: Only ignorant Nigerians are happy for this, turning in a circle. Why don't same Nigerians seek for true federalism? Like resource control and decentralisation of power. Okay you won't like it because you're not a true Nigeria. You're the lawless one. |

seunmsg:Exactly, who take that crook serious called Ibori, maybe he is the one receiving is LGA money direct from the government after FG has paid. Obi is quite cos the was also a culprit. Everywhere FEM for his side. He don't know whether to attack or , Mr reactor. We will celebrate Tinubu before the end of his first tenure. He his bold and take actions no matter who is ox. Jonathan lack boldness even when the major stakeholders in south south were in of him during his presidency. Development will spring up in grassroot. Imagine Obaseki collected 55b on behalf of the local government in 2023 and there is nothing to show for it. Even if the LGA are varies but the least will not get less than 2b for last year in Edo state. We have two major problems impending development in Nigeria. Governors are the first and lawmakers. Thank God the governors era of muscling the LGA will soon be over. To get rid of the lawmakers, is for us to vote candidate with good record in any party we find them and not because of party. We witnessed it with labour party last year, where the noise of top to bottom, made many to vote in most of the candidate with questionable characters like many in Apc and Pdp. |

bennybuhari:You can take the case back to Supreme Court for further clarification. This guy lacks the moral right to speak on this because he is among the Governors that abused the privilege |

Ojuntana:Shut up idiot! A convicted criminal cannot lecture us on constitution. In fact if you have sense at all you will know that since he was convicted for stealing state funds it only means he is among the Governors that abused the privileges. A person like him should not speak on important issues concerning this nation based on his record |

This is a well detailed reply, this is how I want people to make their arguments, very clear and precise.

Ojuntana:shut up! This rule with out leave Tinubu. Buhari tried to do same thing earlier so are you saying Buhari was interested in controlling everything? Does true federalism allow a governor to be an emperor? Does true federalism mean Governors can control local governments funds as they deem fit? |

How did Yahaya Bello became a governor? Flawed judicial system that ratified a rogue that wasn't even in the ballot. Fix your electoral system so that the process is credible and people with credibility can win elections and use the state resources judiciously! You cannot be talking of fg govt controlling local gvt resources and still talk of federalism loswhite: 1 Like |

I don't understand what the complaint is about. The judgement is good news. No more "Baba sope" LG Chairmen in future hopefully. I believe that the residents will monitor their funds better this way. Even if they in the looting, (EFCC on the lookout for more "customers" ![]() All the caretaker chop I chop committees will come to an end. Better qualified people will contest for elections at that level which is good for development. |
Ojuntana: 11:47pm On Jul 11, 2024 |
loswhite:You're uncouth and lacking in proper manners Can you mention the part of our laws that says he can't have an opinion? You really think there's any gov who never misused LG funds? You really think so? You're just a naive small boy |
Ojuntana: 11:59pm On Jul 11, 2024 |
loswhite:Use your brain. What Buhari wanted is totally different from this. What Buhari wanted would have made amending the constitution straightforward without the state govs stopping it with their selfishness. Once state legislatures are financially independent, they can take decisions without sucking up to govs. It was same SC that quashed it. Same SC is now giving fake autonomy that does not exist to LGs. It is intellectually fickle people like you that don't see the big picture. You are only transferring the gov's misuse of LG funds to the president. True federalism is when resources move from bottom up instead of the tickle down approach in use presently. Use your brain |
Ojuntana: 12:02am On Jul 12, 2024 |
loswhite:Oh really? Now you're back to the constitution. The same constitution that the supreme court just overruled and you clapped. So, the constitution is useful only when it suits you and when it doesn't, you simply discard it and use some means to overrule it. Your thinking is obviously shallow |
Ojuntana: 12:21am On Jul 12, 2024 |
DMerciful:Very spot on Don't mind the jokers You want to give LG autonomy by turning the constitution upside down How does that even make sense to any sane mind? These supreme court are just ridiculing themselves 1 Like |

Very interesting thread. There is a minority on here that is making a valid point about how the judiciary is nudging us all towards a constitutional crisis. This minority has pointed out how clear the constitution is - on the matter of a t to be operated by the states. I'm no constitutional lawyer but it certainly does look like judicial overreach if the supreme court overides the very clear wording of the constitution on this issue. Most posters on this thread agree that section 162(3) has not worked out in the interests of ordinary Nigerians and thus...it should go. What is less clear to these posters is that Nigerian lawmakers should have been the ones to amend the provisions of the constitution...in order to serve the interests of ordinary Nigerians. That is what Nigerian legislators are being paid to do...legislate! There is a very serious problem if Nigerian lawmakers cannot enact ostensibly popular legislation on behalf of the people they represent...and instead we all have to wait decades for a supreme court verdict that overides the very clear wording of the constitution it is supposed to interprete. ![]() Ok...back to the practical realities of the supreme court's verdict. I will say without any fear of contradiction that the celebrations on this thread are premature - because we all know the country in which we live. A country without institutions just doesn't work properly. Without the institutional reform that is urgently needed, we will all be back here in a short while to complain about the excesses of local government chairman and state lawmakers...or some other weird failure in the system. It won't be long before it happens. |

mohbadliveson: ^^^ ![]() This simply isn't true. mohbadliveson: ^^^ Ibori needs to explain exactly what he means here. He obviously hasn't studied the more well known examples of federations in the world today. mohbadliveson: ^^^ ![]() Let's ignore for now the striking irony that it is Ibori talking about touching and fiddling with stuff. There is something there in his last comment. I am sure there are millions of business and political arrangements or agreements all over the world that are similar in form to our state/LG t arrangement...and they work. And why do they work? They work because those other places in the world do have strong institutions...and there will be consequences if one party violates the agreement/arrangement and starts tampering, touching or fiddling with things. The system doesn't just sit back when one party (usually the stronger one) abuses its powers - the system kicks in and the law is enforced. That is the power of having strong institutions. We don't have that here. |
