Hi Zahra29 et al

I need clarification please.

I have a child who's 1 year and half. I'm currently working full time. I tried enrolling her for the free 15 hours childcare for children between 9 months and 2 years but was told I wasn't eligible because I'm not entitled to public funds.

Does it mean all African migrants don't automatically qualify for this scheme by the government?

Not just africans LOL but all migrants who have no recourse to public funds are not entitled.

Yes, but as Bourne007 said, not just Africans but any migrant who doesn't have access to public funds (unless one of the parents is British or has ILR)

Random post:

Sunak recently announced that he would seek to close down low quality university courses in favour of funding more apprenticeships. He also also stated that a university education is not essential to be successful.

Some people have interpreted this that Brits do not value higher education and the UK will soon "go down" as a result 🙄

However there are many vital vocations that do/did not require a university degree and are better obtained via apprenticeships - such as nursing, engineering, plumbing, construction and even data analysis.

Some people spend tens of thousands to acquire a paper certificate that adds no real value (other than being able to say you have a degree), while some choose to earn while they learn and come out with lower debt, valuable work experience and sought after skills that the country needs.

And did you know that 9 British prime ministers never went to university, including John Major who is still highly respected today and the famous war time PM Winston Churchill.

Anyway, England especially has been subtly doing this by placing experience above academic qualifications. But the place of a degree cannot be taken by anything else.

I thought Air Peace claimed to be disruptor, on the LGW - LOS route.........😜

Imagine my disappointment, when they are attempting to charge £1200 for a July flight.....

Been seeing people showing pictures of empty planes when they board during their flights and complaining Nigerians are not ing the busniess

Lets not forget that July is summer time and so they know demand will be high for summer trips from Nigeria ,..however, i don't know if there will be demand for trips from UK to Naija

Absolutely nothing to cash out ...... The NCD you have, is the reason your insurance is considerably cheaper.......

Protect your NCD when renewing you quote and keep building it ....... I have over 20 years of NCD, but I think it's pegged at 10 years....... Well done, keep collecting your precious NCD........🤣😂😂

Thank you very much

Yes it can - by valid skills and industry experience - that's the whole point. A plumber does not need a degree, nurses didn't require degrees back in the day and they are talking about reverting to the former model, neither do electricians or builders or care workers or firefighters or pilots or photographers or carpenters or graphic designers or prison officers or train drivers...I could go on.

Many of the above professions are in demand and pay very well but are often looked down on in favour of academic degrees by Nigerians, Indians etc until they travel out and then start looking for ways to learn welding undecided

We've ended up with surplus universities, many of which were former polytechnics, offering low quality/irrelevant courses that provide no real value in the real world -young people coming out with £50k plus worth of debt that many will service for life due to low salaries and high interest. It is right to consider viable options like apprenticeships or degree apprenticeships.

Zahra I was so shocked when i saw UCL had BA in ‘Viking and Norse studies’.I’m not one to judge people’s choices but it’s a ridiculous degree to have and you’ll still have students take student loans to study these kind of courses.

Brethren please help.
What's the cheapest way to transfer pounds to a GBP in Naija. I need to hold £ in Nigeria for a few weeks and then repatriate back to the UK. The cost of using SWIFT with the regular high street banks is too high.

I can't wait for the dragging too ........ In under 6 month's of operating the LGW route, we have started hearing conflicting stories + major concerns raised by UKCAA.......

You do not agree there's a benefit to studying the past? That course sounds very exciting.

Unfortunately yes. Unless you decide to go private which was what I did back when my kid was 2. Cost me half my paycheck but half pay was better than no pay. I started living large once the kid hit 3...lol

Greetings everyone,

What do you advise, I wanted to renew my rent contract, but Landlord is suggesting i don’t need to extend, as the contract automatically goes into a rolling contract after 12 months. Do you think I should insist on getting a new contract ?

Hi, how did you solve this. I tried retrieving my share code as well. Used my port and DOB as identity and its telling me no such info in their records

taalas:
Yes the link didn't work. When trying to get the share code it said :

“What identity document did you use when you created your ?”

port

National identity card

Biometric residence card or permit

I did put my port number and it said this information doesn’t match.

I don't think there is any downside to a rolling contract, maybe notice period?
