Shebi they said dollar is coming down but the high price of goods/services is because Nigerians are greedy? Well I hope they keep the same energy and abuse this poor student for being greedy for university education! A once great nation reduced to begging for things they once donated to other African nations because of bigotry. tongue

Lol. another wellspring from the many raging fountains of stupïdity.

How can a federal school ask for fees…

By the way, do all you people commenting here normally pay your taxes?? Because that’s what this is actually about.

In year 2012, when I was at UI my school fee was less than 20k.

Ask your parents, who did they vote in the last election. . I am very sure it was tinubu.
We warned you people. ' don't vote for this man'. But because of tribal sentiment, Yoruba people just dey cast their votes for APC, despite all the evils buhari was doing.

Go and collect a loan. That's your own cup of tea

So reducing university fees will make people eat? The universities are complaining seriously that they can hardly even afford diesel bill and UCH was thrown into darkness for owing electricity bills yet the university Labour unions have had their concerns as their own priority instead of putting heads together with management on how their universities can increase their funding in creative and innovative ways.

Should they shut the universities? I don't think so. The best option is to raise fees but should make it moderate enough for most of the students still able to afford it. Some of these students use N200k-worth or more mobile devices and can afford this new fees while some from even modest families will get to school and face other things apart from their education and ultimately the taxpayers don't get the real value on subsidizing their education.
I the call for reducing the hike but the universities can increase fees to give quality services and education to the students. Quality education is not cheap o. Alumni should come in to assist the universities too.

Are you even normal be reasonable atleast for the sake of your parents and generations.

Fees have always been going up.

My fees went up under Obasanjo. Was OBJ clueless. Fees also went up under GEJ too. Maybe GEJ was clueless.

This thing is bigger than TInubu and Obi. It is an ongoing discussion that Nigeria has been having for decades...since the great ASUU strike of 1992.

it baffles me when his ers will making noise about business people who are increasing prices despite dollar coming down, when the government they refuse to lead by example by reducing prices of its own good like university fees and electricity tariff or is dollar not reducing for government also
The truth is thus government is heartless and wicked, it only cares about the elite, worse part of it is that the Downtrodden who are affected are sympathetic to a government who doesn't care about them this wants to burst my brain, because I can't just understand it

fuel ... expensive

When I said it on Nairaland, many of you abused me...!

Tertiary education is now officially for the wealthy.

Even student loan can never reach up to 20% of those that need it.

If the loan s are as smart as I think or expect them to be, they will have no choice but restrict the loans to those studying lucrative and profitable courses like Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, etc.

The idea being they are the ones with certainty of repaying them with interest few years after graduating.
U made zero sense.....the loan should be for everyone....everybody must not be a medical student

This is too much, many families cannot afford it, people are struggling to eat and our universities are busy increasing school fees

If you think 450,000 is too much for fees, you don’t deserve university education.

University is not for everybody, it is for those who know the value and won’t waste their time there.

People who know the value of a good degree from a good university know N450,000 is too cheap.

LoL

Too cheap in a country with 30k minimum wage? Too cheap in a country with high rate of unemployment? Too cheap in a country that top the ladder of poverty? Too cheap in a country whose leaders top the ladder of highest paid in the world? Too cheap in a country whose citizens cannot afford to feed? Too cheap in a country with poor power supply? Too cheap in a country with corrupt leaders? I can always go on and on

I think we should understand that the university needs the hike to remain in the business that brought the students to the school in the first place. Secondly, it is much more difficult for citizens in other countries too. Biden has been cancelling students loan regularly because most of the students could not pay back after graduation and most UK universities are currently strained financially, so bad that some universities have started folding up in the US. Do you want UI to fold up ni? Hike yes but the hike should be affordable is better than blackmailing the school with people who have economic challenges. The school is challenged financially at the moment and needs help to save itself and then save the students. I believe that the hike is necessary but it should not be too much.
Tinubu promised free WAEC for secondary School students in Nigeria. When will that commence? It's almost a year in office.

Like I said it is too cheap. You are straying off topic making emotional arguments. That’s why we are producing graduates are unemployable. No point going to university to get a degree that has no value. If you cannot afford it, go and learn a vocation.

You may not like what I am saying but I am speaking the truth. Most of the students with degrees from 50k -100k universities will never ever get a job with those degrees because most are worthless.

If your university charges cheap fees, they can’t afford the best or even good lecturers, if they can’t employ the best lecturers, they cannot give the best teaching to the students l. If students are not taught by good lecturers, they can’t get good degrees.

If you want to discuss how someone on 30k can afford university fees in the millions, that is a seperate subject. But if you are playing cheap fees you are getting worthless degrees. Some universities charge N50m a year or more for tuition and you think you are getting the same quality of education for your N100k? You think the people paying N50m a year abroad are fools? You are the same ones that will complain that they get the best jobs. I am not saying fees in public universities should be N50m but ideally no good university in Nigeria private or public should charge less that 2-5m.

Your limited comprehension is not my problem, Sir.

Of course, anyone can apply and get the loan regardless of the discipline, as long as he has the credit worth to repay within 2 years of graduation.

If you approve and dole out loans to just any student, how do they get the interest and money recovered within a short time?!!

Or you think these are grants or gifts?!! The system will simply crash and burn if the money is not recovered quickly for the revolving process.

That's why I mentioned disciplines that ensure speedy employment within 2 years of graduation.

Learn to put your emotions in check when engaging in such discussions.

your argument has no basis. How about schools with free tuition in abroad, are they not delivering .

Here in Nigeria if school is accredited the school fees should be a secondary issue. We use our hand to or own problems
