SamySamy123:
1. At and About
Note that the sentence, "I shall expect you at about five o'clock" is wrong. It should rather be "I shall expect you about five o'clock".
Reason:
"At" applies a definite time, and "about" applies to an approximate time. So, using at about is juxtaposition of two unlikes, and should be avoided. You can only say: "I shall expect you at or about five o'clock".
2. Try And
Many a time, people use "try and" when they actually mean "try to". Logically, if you "try and do something", you have to first of all try, which is to make a general attempt, and finding out how do. After trying and finding how to do, you then do it. Thus, there are two actions involve, to try and to do.
On the other hand, "try to" implies the single combination of trying and doing. So, learn not to confuse the two today.
3. All Right
Note that, while already, almost, almighty and altogether, are right, it is wrong to say "alright". However, there is no reason for this. But if you want your grammar to be absolutely correct, you must use "all right".
4. Misuse of That
It is quite pathetic that most people use the word "That" as an emphatic adverb.
Examples:
"I had no idea the house was that small"
"If the weather is that bad, you had better stay at home"
This use of "That" is wrong and should be avoided. The correct forms of the above sentences are:
"I had no idea that the house was as small as that".
"If the weather is as bad as that, you had better stay at home".
5. Ought To
Note that the construction " He ought to, didn't he?" is very wrong. Its correct form is "He ought to, oughtn't he?".
I know this sound absurd. But no doubt, it is the correct form.
6. Parallel With
It should be noted that two lines can not be "parallel to". They can only be "parallel with" each other. So, don't say parallel to from today hence forth.
7. Averse To
Sometimes, people say they are "averse to". Meaning that they dislike. However, this is very wrong. You cannot be averse to anything, because the suffix "to" signify approach, when the opposite is intended.
The correct form of "being averse to something" is "being averse from".
8. Moot Point
Note that the word "moot" does not mean the same as "mute". While the word mute simply mean silence, moot is an Anglo-Saxon town assembly, or court of justice which was a moot or mote, while the meaning place was the moot hall.
9. USE TO
When people make sentences like "He used to live in Lagos" meaning he formerly lived in Lagos, it is quite understood and correct.
But where they say this negatively or in past tense, they make mistakes. Examples:
"He didn't use to live in Lagos".
"Did he use to live in Lagos?".
The correct forms of the above are:
"He use not to live in Lagos".
"Used he to live in Lagos".
Reason:
"Used to" is a peculiar idiom itself, and there is no point making its variation even more peculiar.
10. Xmas
The only reason why the word "Xmas" can be tolerated is because, "X" was a Greek word for Jesus Christ. Writers who intentionally use "Xmas" having be said to be merely lazy. The most formal form is "Christmas"

I'm touched by the story but unless I'm absolutely wrong, the car she was driving was owned by a one time popular reggae/dancehall act who, in a meeting with my ex-boss around that period, actually narrated the little trouble he was in because Ibinabo in a drunk-driving fit with one of his cars, committed the act.
I surely couldn't have dreamt that up, could I?
I'm not even sure anymore...

It's sad that even if we call the attention of the powers that be to this ludicrous idea of pepper spray being classified as an offensive weapon and not to be carried around for self defense, they will do nothing to remedy it.
We are seldom forward-thinking in this country.
What we need is a crop of selfless, intelligent and straight-arrow individuals to permeate every sector of the Nigerian state, reform our weak, corruption-wrought and bogus policies to ones that reflect well-thought out, dynamic and people-centric.
So we should be raped, harassed and be at perpetual mercy of hoodlums? So carrying a taser go be like capital offense na!
Watch... they will be no outrage beyond the media space and those that are charged with delivering the dividends of our and votes will not take proactive measures in turning it around.
I hope I'm proven wrong.

On another note people really don't know what it means to be Nigerian president. Yes you have power, but you have to deal with the power blocs and vested interests who hold Nigeria to ransom. GEJ, we complained about his style, Buhari, we are complaining, Yaradua, we were complaining, Obasanjo was the beginning of our complaints. Why don't we look inward and realize that we ourselves, as a people are responsible for stopping the system from working.
People complain about nepotism. Same people who shunt at queues and lie over the minutest detail just to get a regular service. The average Nigerian will gladly enrich himself corruptly, until he is caught he will go around without a conscience and without shame. So if the bottom is rotten, how can the top be clean ?
We need to look at ourselves, and ask why we seem to be the biggest hypocritical nation in Africa.
Zobo or Orijin?

Despite several cuts and tweaks to its business model and structure, it appears all is not still well with Jumia.
This is because, after two years of pressure and record losses, Jumia said it losses rose beyond forecast for the full year 2017
Jumia, Africa's largest eCommerce company said it made a net loss of N53.3 billion for the full financial year of 2017. This is a major negative and huge difference compared to N40.5 billion reported in 2016.
Full-year revenue for Jumia came in at EUR93.8 million compared to EUR89 million reported in 2016.
There are various sides to this result and the more we look at the company's summary result released by Rocket Internet, its parent company, the more we see more signs of worry for Jumia going forward.
Source: https://pageone.ng/2018/04/13/jumia-losses-parent-company/
Various structural changes have been applied to the business model of Jumia in the last three years. On August 30, 2016 Africa eCommerce Holding GmbH, the holding company of Jumia, was merged into Africa Internet Holding GmbH (formerly trading under Africa Internet Group).
In its usual flowery comment, Rocket Internet said in its official statement that:
In June 2016, all business models of Africa Internet Group were renamed under the Jumia brand.
It is now very clear that Rocket Internet plans to sell off the company via an IPO was a sound decision given the fact that after five years, there are no signs that Jumia would break-even before it caves-in.
Konga, Jumia's arch-rival has also witnessed its near-end before it was sold to Zinox Group for undisclosed amounts.
While Kinnevik and Naspers have not disclosed the of the transactions, there are feelers that the company was sold for a ridiculously low amount with up to 99% loss on equity.
@ the bolded is a major no, no, no for those that know i.e. grand positioning error! Selah. Reach me for details.

Came for a burial.
My first thought on entering the town today was, I think these armed bandits have stayed their hand on this town as it has happened one too many times and it's been long...
I was supposed to stay back for yet another engagement but decided to get back to the capital city as it wasn't a priority for me and biz is calling back in Gidi.
I noticed a bank had even closed their branch (very close to the railway tracks, I think Skye).
Because of the robberies, I had vowed that under no circumstance would I use ATM in that town again. I was out and about trying to fetch cash last night in Ilorin prior to this trip.
Kai, I'm fed up. I thank God oh but I'm exhausted from this kind of thing...
I'm hearing they first murdered all the policemen at the station. That has been their modus operandi though. Chai
And to think that all those banks are concentrated along a route that has so many getaway options the authorities are yet to remedy that unique flaw at least as per Offa.
God help us!

I agree with the vanity metrics and over-hyping of a particular marketplace that does nothing to ensure customer satisfaction.
Building trust in customers is key in my opinion and that is what we are addressing in our all new marketplace. you may want to check it out for yourself.

Wow.... As if I knew. My Ph.D research proposal is on Achieving sustainable E-commerce and retail business in Nigeria. (Problem and Prospect). Jumia, konga and dealdey all included in the research.
The honest truth is, the Nigeria climate is not conducive enough for online retail business. It is cheaper to move goods via railway system than roads and air but no good railway network in the country.
Again, there is low penetration of credit system in the country, we only used debit card. Lastly , these online companies like Jumia and co don't put their time to creat any innovative idea to deal with these setbacks. Rather they are only concern about making profits.
My research is gonna be interesting.
Bro. Please let's know when you're done. Would be nice to have a read.
@lobell, valid points but I think the attendant issues and solutions may be proffered in the thesis. Reason I'm interested in the work...
Personally, from my humble angle and in somewhat agreement with your arguments, I think we are not being organic in our eCommerce enterprises and not taking advantage of the unique landscape each emerging market poses.
A lot of vanity metrics spur the strategies and decisions asides the fact that expansion is ever so pursued without much recourse to logic and deep analysis that would allow them to feel the true pulse of the business.
Of course, the slower economic realities add to the sad mix but many have fallen trap to basing their business on some fantastical indicies that is in no short supply when fast growing emerging markets are involved.
I believe the next generation of eCommerce setups will take a lot to heart before ad during their dispensation the story has been the same from about 2 years now. Prudence, customer-centric, taking innovative advantage of the less-than-ideal infrastructure with intelligent integration...
Efritin saw the writing on the wall and decided to bail outright.
