skedman:Na wa for una ohhh FG setup two separate committees to negotiate with ASUU on their genuine demands and the union agreed but when it was time to bring before FG the recommendations by the same committees, they dumped the report! Only for the FG to take them to the industrial court to compel them to call off the strike! Now how is that the fault of the union? |
![]() |
festacman:The same ASUU negotiated and agreed with two committees set up by the FG to resolve the strike and yet the FG refused to agree to the respective reports and recommendations of the same committees! If FG had a problem with the reports of their own created committee, why not setup another committee to do a fresh negotiation with ASUU instead of coming to the press to claim ASUU is refusing to make concessions! |

So after this hapless and mindless stunt has been pulled by the FG,will they now rehabilitate the dilapidated universities under the breakaway ASUU faction CONUA?

Oluwaseunomo:Please tell me what is right with what ngige did? You guys are the reason why our leaders treat us including you with zero respect! Is it the fault of ASUU that an FG that setup up two separate committees refused to abide by the agreement of their respective reports? Is it the fault of ASUU that the FG has timelessly decided to renege on agreements with ASUU? Will ASUU be the ones to provide for the provision of necessary equipments for the running of universities that are currently in a pathetic state and more or less glorified secondary schools? 2 Likes |

Renewed hope? Sounds like words coming out from an opposition party! Tactically throwing Buhari's regime under the bus! |

A friend of mine rightly said if you want to trend, just call the name Peter Obi and you will get an immediate reaction ![]() ![]() I hope Dumebi is aware that he is actually assisting to promote Peter Obi good or bad! He should focus on the imperative issues affecting the country and tell Nigerians how he will tackle the issues differently! |

Double standard Unfortunately, the same governor, during the APC rally, will want to convince his own people to vote for the same party! |

CaptainAyub:I already know that one sef....I was laughing when APC claimed it was their project! Its this particular bridge that I wasn't aware of! Cos I was wondering how an istration that keeps complaining that they have no funds even when crude oil is hovering around 100 dollars per barrel to now miraculously have the funds to finish and complete this kind of capital intensive project! Its always amusing how they dive to claim projects that they didn't even conceive or start but when they are shown the negatives of their istration, they instantly say it was because of the past government! |

As much as I would give this istration a mark for their infrastructural strides we must also not forget the premise of this istration when they came into power in 2015 which was to tackle insecurity, develop a robust economy and reduce corruption! Today what are we witnessing in this istration? Insecurity has been amplified and now a threat to the same infrastructures that the istration is embarking on! The highest point and the most embarrassing of insecurity in our country was when a group of terrorists braggadocios style bounced into abuja unchallenged or unseen by any security force, broke into kuje prison and released their fellow terrorists.....just to show the porousness of our security system, they even had time to pray before leaving the prison in what should be one of the safest cities in the country! What about the economy after almost 8 years of this istration? The fact that Nigeria remains the only OPEC country that still imports fuel, diesel and aviation products is a testament of how our economy has nosedived! What about electricity? No month es by without witnessing a national grid collapse! Same istration that promised 3 million jobs in a year but the unemployment rate has increased to 33% 'officially'! The istration had initially resorted to first blaming the former istration, before blaming covid19 pandemic and now the Ukraine/Russia war for our inability to achieve the robust economy that they wanted! The naira performance against the dollar is another humongous issue that once again puts the incompetence of the president and his ministers on the spotlight! What about the plan to end corruption in this istration? The highlight of the istration's corruption fight will not be complete without mentioning a man that should have retired from civil service but was surprisingly brought back by the president and supervised the alleged stealing of over a 100 billion of which some were used in acquiring properties all over the country! At the end of the day, everyone can agree that the current president has done his 'best' based on his ability but this is clearly not good enough! |

This is yet another baseless and unnecessary news! If the former president could not sign such a laudable report that will not only unite Nigerians but also solve the many issues that are currently bedeviling our country, the next president should have done so immediately! After all government is a continuum! 2 Likes 1 Share |

JJuanMiguel:If there is a report about such, please do well to bring or show it here! I don't rely on beer parlour gist! Once again and at the risk of sounding like a broken record,ASUU was not the one that proposed that that lecturers salaries be increased by 180%...This was contained in the recommendation made first by the jibril committee report in 2021 and then Nimi Briggs committee report in 2022.... that both committees were created and belonged to the FG not ASUU! JJuanMiguel:That is your opinion and you are entitled to them! However your opinion doesn't take away the fact that our universities are in a terrible state and in need of urgent rehabilitation! I have personally been to some of our universities and i must confess that its an eyesore! You may have your personal vendetta with some lecturers due to your past dealings and disappointments with them but it will be illogical to generalize! ASUU still have options before them....They are not the first to be issued such order...The resident doctors were given the same order and refused to obey which was finally resolved out of court! However, the union has decided to follow the law on the advice of their lawyers to appeal! They can appeal the ruling by seeking a 'status quo' order! JJuanMiguel:You seem not to understand the job that a teacher puts in educating a student! A teacher or lecturer should be living large because the directly and indirectly affect the economy of the nation! No one including you became something in life without the effect or a teacher or lecturer! A professor in england earns over 3k pounds a month and a professor in nigeria collects 450k but a councilor in a remote area in a state in Nigeria collects close to a million naira and you want the lecturers to give their best to the students? The shutting down of schools should have been avoided a long time ago if the FG had done their job properly by agreeing to a negotiation that they had made! JJuanMiguel:This is so insensitive from you! Do not allow your personal grudge with a lecturer cloud your sense of judgement! Which lecturer that has been owed for more than 4 months will have the strength to teach? JJuanMiguel: Let us wait for the appeal court before trying to preempt their judgement! Like i said before, they have options which are in their favour! JJuanMiguel:lol.....The students under NANS have told the union not to resume! Let the law be interpreted in a court of law not on nairaland! |

JJuanMiguel: Useful research work is either personally funded or the university does the funding! The former is not possible due to the salaries that even a professor earns! However, this is not the bone of contention! There is always an opportunity to renegotiate with another committee! JJuanMiguel: Firstly,i am not a lecturer or part of ASUU....I am only trying to tackle the issues from an objective point of view! Secondly,As much as i agree with your last statement about some lecturers in our universities, you will agree with me that not all lecturers are into what you are trying to accuse all of them! Lets not lose sight of the main issue at hand which is the revitalization of our universities and review of the upward salary structure of lecturers! The other issues can be resolved by setting up another committee by the FG to investigate what you are alleging! JJuanMiguel:This is off topic! The question is did the FG renege in their negotiation and agreement with ASUU through the committee that they set up? Did FG throw out the 2 reports by committees that they themselves setup to resolve the issue with the union? Once we are done with resolving the questions at hand,we can talk about how to investigate the excesses of the university lecturers in nigeria! 1 Like |

JJuanMiguel: ![]() ![]() Its well! The increment was done and contained in the Nimi briggs commitee report where it recommended the 180% increase in the salaries of the university lecturers! The increment according to the committee report was to enable the salaries of lecturers to be in line with what is earned by university lecturers around the world! As for ASUU pursuing the ministers of finance and education, then i will have to see such link or news about such before i can believe! However i do know that if the FG is serious about revitalizing the universities, then they should abide by the recommendations of the two committees that they set up! There is still room for another committee to be set up by the FG as long as they will abide by the eventual report of that same committee! ![]() |
