SaLongs1: Medievalisation of the state or nation is precisely the aim of militant Islamists such as Bokoharam. The more dysfunctional the state or nation, the better. To the authorities behind these movements, Islam is incompatible with the modern circular state as evolved by the European powers since the French revolution. Modernity threatens the power of the religion's grip over the people. Sharia is ultimately the petulant response by contemporary World Imams to Western philosophical and political hegemony over Arabic civilization. It will tolerate devouts behaving badly since it's aim is not really about civil justice. Radical Islamist will not lay siege to Dubai or the great Wall City by Arabia, with all the implied "unislamic opulence and decadence, since they are symbolic. They are essentially rude fingers (middle finger) cocking a snoop at Western civilization, proclaiming that islamic civilization can outdo the West in its own game. 1 Like 1 Share |

Monaboo: Would be great if people could also or achieve some of these things online. We're in the 21 century. Lagos and other cities in Nigeria are not taking advantage of the revenue they could make by exploiting the great need in the West for Nigeria property. I know so many people from Nigeria, the Caribbean and US interested in purchasing land and homes in Nigeria but are discouraged by news of ripoffs and the opaque nature of the process. 1 Like |

Is Lagos state government complicit? When are they going to get to grips with sanitising land, property and sales rights and prosecute some of these openly corrupt realtors ? Isn't a moratorium possible in which all realtor activities are suspended for a year during which time the state government fine-tunes the system or and introduce alternative state approved realtors etc ?

Explanation for why so many that leave Nigeria for Abroad then turn around to abuse Nigeria in ways that no other nationalities abuse thire own nations when having emigrated abroad, is maybe due to them not actually being Nigerians. Nigeria is like the South Africa of West Africa, attracting even now as in the past, hundreds of thousands of people from neighbouring nations. Unlike South Africa , though, Nigeria doesn't have even a modicum of border control nor perhaps the expertise and rigour South Africa applies to immigration. We keep no meaningful records. This could mean Nigeria has way more immigrants than South Africa does. In any case, many of these immigrants live, grow up, learn our languages and politics, many are born in Nigeria but have affinity for the lands of their parents. Many are half Nigerians - and depending on which sex one part of thire parents are, will identify with Nigeria or the foreign nation. Children are likelier to identify with their mothers people. Together these type of people are more likely to be the ones that hate and cuss Nigeria, for whatever reasons, when they emigrate from Nigeria. You as a true Nigerian, not knowing this, may be left baffled and wondering why or how could anyone go abroad and resort to insulting the nation of thire forefathers to the terrible extent that often happens. You'd be thinking, 'but no other nationalities does this, why Nigerians?' You may even blame Igbos or IPOB Not knowing that those people aren't actually as Nigerian as you may believe. |

Anyway, state governments or those in positions of capability, may do some public good if they enable the introduction of the more sophisticated types of 3d bill boards to Nigeria cities were possible. Every and any diversion able to positively lift the people's spirits wouldn't be a bad thing. |

immortalcrown: Had Nigeria govt first proposed this, Bush (ignorant )Nigerians on social media and Nigerians in pretentious, "been-to" civil society groups would have ranted to the world, condemning Nigeria as backward and pointing to the greatness of everywhere else that don't do censorship. Nigerians with their Too-Sabi attitude, informed by the West-Knows-Best positions foisted on them by Nigeria Opposite Politics , are preventing Nigeria from being innovative, condemning Nigeria to be always followers never leaders in any field. 1 Like |

Also, as much as possible (unfortunately) schools should be relocated to urban places, chaotic as they are, until we are better at handling the security of schools set in remote areas due to the serenity of such places which is good for the mental and physical wellbeing of people generally. Even village, hec place them at the centre of villages, why not? We don't have to emulate everything abroad. We also need to use our own Nigeria brains - such as they are- to construct schools in ways that would in themselves be difficult for outsiders to navigate once school perimeter walls, CCTV,are breached by hostiles. |

Given the decade long North East history of school children kidnapping, lessons should have been learned by now, no excuse for not doing so will be reasonable, including excuses such as "Poverty" and "the Economy". Dolling out millions to kidnapers isn't economy efficient. No schools in the NE, or anywhere in Nigeria, should by now be at least without perimeter fencing surrounding square, security aware buildings. Pictures below are random UK schools. UK isn't experiencing spate of school kidnappings but they know in advance that children will be vulnerable to adults or deviants of society in one form or another. All schools in the united kingdom have walls and security measures in place.

Firstly, I doubt there's anyone unhappy about the release of the children. Our Children in Nigeria traditional value. So praises all round (family&children, I mean). However, If ransom was exchanged, then none of those thanked so lavishly in the article - from mister president to the security services - are deserving. Or were they thanked for relenting to pressure from some unknown quarters not to use force? There's no effort or expertise involved in yielding to the demands of anyone who forcefully compels you with threat. Anyone can gift bullies in exchange for peace. The label once used in description of this type of acquiescence was Cowardice not Thanks. ![]() |

Before that incident, the driver said: “While waiting at the waterfront, an old woman in pure water attire came out of the community and stared at us, making some incantations, and went back to the community. Within a few minutes, an old man with similar attire came to the same spot, gazed at us, and performed the same way as the old woman.” Heh, this drama get everything, even sorcery. Nigerians and Tall Tales ![]() Seriously, though , a revelation is yet to emerge on how approximately 17 soldiers could be ambushed, slaughtered, and apparently by villagers to-boot, without evidence of return fire. |

hardbody: Precisely. Poster I was responding to suggested that the money being spent on the Nigeria coastal highway would be better spent fixing existing road infrastructure in Nigeria. I stated that, no, the coastal highway investment is good. Instead, the money being invested on railway to Niger Republic should be the one better spent in Nigeria on existing or new infrastructure. |

Judolisco: I'm rather in of this highway. Railway alone world be even better. Your good advice would be more suitably applied to the planned Niger Republic railway from Nigeria. |

Actually, if the relative higher value of Western currencies to those of Nations like Nigeria, Somalia, Sudan and Ethiopia trumps everything, including pride and dignity, why aren't Somalis ,Ethiopians and Sudanese seen - as prominently as Nigerians are - in predominantly menial occupations abroad ? And Nigerians in demeaning labour abroad are on average more qualified than Sudanese, Somali and Ethiopians. Moreover the population of Somalis and Ethiopians abroad is sizable. |

If this citing of a military base in the troubled Uroboh community is unavoidable then it may be prudent to also build a military base in the opposition Ijaw community. These bases should be structurally modern ones fit for purpose, with solid parameter walls, and square, flat-roofed, official looking structures that look militaristic not cheap, triangle roofed type houses no different from civilian homes. 1 Like |

Land is wealth. Every Nigerian has land. Industry and hence wage employment evolved in Europe because the feudal lords confiscated their peoples land. Monarchies had to keep thire people ified by creating wage labour, first as laborers on the lands that they confiscated from the people then as soldiers.

LASG Begins Impounding Uber/moove Vehicles Over Failure To Provide Database Good one. Tag, label, bloodtype and DNA the shit out of your local population if you hope to control crime and improve the standard of living of your citizens over time- relatively! Some may be thinking, ah, but many nations of the West have massive and current data based info of thire people but yet still contend with crime. To which I might add in reply that there is a level to which many nations of the West deliberately allow some crime to take place in order to facilitate capitalism. The security ecosystem needs sustenance in the form of allowing some crime to take place that keep many law enforcers in employment. It's the difference between controlled and uncontrolled crime. ![]() |

Soludo Mulls Plan For New City Along Amansea, Ufuma Route by okey chris I've bravely ventured the idea in several quarters that many states in Nigeria could do better long term (cost effective) starting afresh with new cities than investing in sanitising the current ones. |

We're reminded again the need for revolution in policing. More police, better training, more branches such as Highway Police, Park Rangers, Armed Police Units, Forensics Units etc; better pay and pension, better quarters, stations..... Army are essentially the crude, shock unit of the national security ecosystem. We could expect finesse from them but shouldn't be too shocked by resultant brute actions when we send them to do work that may require delicacy and sensitivity. We are in Nigeria overburdening the military. 1 Like |
