The member representing Nsukka West, Dr. Ugwuera Emma in his submission said; "Not only the contractors that handled the job will have questions to answer, even the supervising agency or ministry will have to explain to Ndi Enugu, what happened. I'll be very brief about this, on the sad day of the incident, I spoke with the rapist who was my course mate about coming to pick up a hand out, our discussion was based on academics. When I was done with what I needed to do in town before leaving for my hostel which was far. I arrived his place of abode but, met his absence. His apartment was open & I was of the opinion he was in close proximity. I put a call through to him, he picked up from a noisy background and immediately told me he was on his way back & talked very hastily. He didn't show up and I was just few minutes to taking my leave hence postponing my cause for stopping by so I put a call through to him for the second time and he began apologizing, saying thus, "he was trying to handle something and would be back SOON". It was just when I was about to leave that an unpredicted heavy downpour with accompanying thunderstorm followed suit. I was stranded at this point, hoping it would come to a halt, instead increased at every second. This is the part I oftentimes find difficult explaining to people except if they had been there to see for themselves. There was nothing I could do and I was very sad about it. The road to his house was in a deplorable state, the chaotically heavy rain wouldn't stop, I felt trapped but unknown to me, danger was fast looming. He finally got back, drenched and dripping off raindrops and apologizing non-stop. He went on to sleep on the floor and I slept on the bed. I was dressed in a pair of jean and a white long length top & after saying my prayers, I shutdown. At about 1am (I knew the time because there was a wall clock) he began heavy-tapping me to wake up, saying he wants to have sex with me, I began rubbing my eyes as I woke up to this horror, "Wake up, I want to have sex with you!" he yelled, at this point, I felt my heart sink into my stomach, my pulse raced. I immediately went down on my knees, crying, begging "Emeka, it's me", "Emeka, please don't do this", "Emeka, please I'm still a virgin, please I'm begging you not to do this, please". At this point, I was begging on God, the angels and saints to help me but, before I could utter another word, things took a violent turn. He turned off the light, pushed me and began dragging me on the floor. THIS WAS THE GENESIS OF THE HORROR & TRAUMA I was exposed to. I fought back with my legs, tried to run to door in the dark but, he dragged me & began to batter me, he grabbed me by my hair, "I said I must have sex with you!!" he slapped me several times, and each time I tried to push him, he'd punch me, hit my head on the floor, and continue to drag me on the floor severally! mercilessly pummeling other parts of my body. I was already screaming to attract his neighbours and this got him a lot more infuriated! This phase continued until I began to grow weak & eventually received the last thunderbolt of punch and I collapsed to the floor. While all of these lasted, I couldn't even see in the dark. Then I could hear voices and banging on the door, "Emeka open this door! Emeka, open this door! It seemed like they were trying to break down the door but, he paid deaf ears, slapped me again, then put his hands around the waist line of my jean, tore it down! lifted my legs up like a wild animal! The last scream I let out could bring down a building and this was when the defilement occurred, he ensured he succeeded at this before dashing to the door, I heard heavy footsteps, the lights came on and people were screaming...I lay in a pool of blood. I was lifted up from the blood, with people crying. I don't even know how else to describe... I'm sorry I'll have to apply the brakes at this point because this is too much for a person to bear. I look back to that day and sink in a sea of regrets, I wish I knew better. I'm broken! https://journalist101.com/2019/12/01/sad-story-lady-narrates-how-her-course-mate-defiled-her/

The spiritual leader of Adoration Ministry, Enugu Nigeria (AMEN) Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka has called for the immediate resignation of the Governor of Anambra state, Willie Obiano over his failure in governance. Father Mbaka made the comment during the adoration on programme on Friday while commenting on the fire incident that destroyed lives and properties in Anambra State. According to him, it is a shame that Anambra has no functional fire service despite the market is one of the busiest in Africa. He also questioned why tankers will not fall while we have bad roads everywhere in Nigeria. He blamed the Governor and Anambra politicians for not constructing the roads. Sympathising with the victims, he lamented that politicians will take advantage of the tragedy to do ‘eye service’ and give compensation to some of the victims. In the end, many of the victims might receive N10,000 after the money is shared. Who is fooling who? Speaking further, he said that in a sane society, Obiano should resign and tender apology. According to him, markets, schools and more should be closed until the governor resigns or live up to expectation. He went on to say that, Christianity is a religion of fire. He gave instance of how Holy Spirit fall on the apostles. He stated that the masses should be in charge of their destiny. He frowned at why some people should blame Hausas for the incident. According to him, Hausa people don’t even know that we exist. He gave instances on how Igbo politicians loot money awarded for projects. He used Enugu airport as an example and said many Igbo politicians use substandard products for its construction after collecting huge allocation from Federal Government. Mbaka stated that people no longer value the words of prophets. He wondered why people should be arguing with prophets after collecting N10,000 from politicians. According to him,he started speaking against politicians right from the days of Babaginda and never knew Buhari before he started talking about him.He stated that he laughs when people think that he is ing Buhari because of any financial gain. Mbaka said time will come when Igbos will start looking for priests for solutions. He believes that Hausas are not our problem. The Igbos are their own problem. In conclusion, Mbaka said, when he talks, many will call a politician and thus should face his priestly work. He wondered what people understand by priestly work. https://journalist101.com/2019/10/21/video-fr-mbaka-calls-for-obianos-immediate-resignation/ |

There's a wild jubilation in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State following the unanimous nomination of one of their sons, Sir. Vitalis Okonkwo, by all the stakeholders in the LGA, as their preferred candidate for Commissioner. His nomination is in accordance with the Governor's desire to enthrone "participatory democracy" which simply translates; that all the various council areas should convene a meeting (which is exactly what Uzo-Uwani did) to deliberate and nominate a consensus candidate from their locality that would serve as Commissioner in the state executive council. His nomination was ratified during their stakeholders meeting on Friday, 16th August, 2019 at Filbon Hotel Enugu. Before his nomination, the stakeholders had met and zoned the position to Ojor ward in the LGA which was done in the spirit of justice, equity, and fairness. Our correspondent reported that Sir. Vitalis Okonkwo, a successful oil mogul, farmer and philanthropist alongside Richard Eguma, the current Treasurer of Igboeze South LGA and the State Secretary, t Allocation Committee (JAAC) indicated interest since the zoning arrangement favoured both of them. The Councillor of Ojor ward, Hon. Chikwelu Romanus and the President General (PG) of Ojor community, Ucheonwu Okonta in their speeches thanked the stakeholders for standing on the part of justice and fairness by zoning the position to their people. They assured them that their two sons gunning for the opportunity are eminently qualified and will not let Uzo-Uwani down. After various hours of long deliberations and speeches from so many persons including; the Chairman of traditional rulers in the council, HRH S.J Idu, the party Chairman in the council, Udezue Benedict, Member of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Okika Josephat, the leader of Uzo-Uwani legislative Council, Patrick Ezugwu amongst others. After the two interested candidates took time to address the stakeholders, they (the stakeholders) unanimously agreed that Richard Egwuma despite being eminently qualified for the position should retain his position as the Secretary of JAAC in the state as that is a very vital position Uzo-Uwani can't afford to loose thus Vitalis Okonkwo should be allowed to go and serve them at the State Executive Council. The motion for the adoption of the nomination of Sir. Okonkwo was moved by a former Commissioner, Hon. Matthew Idu and seconded by Hon. Paschal Okoro. The Chairman, Hon. Fidelis Ani, subjected the motion to a voice vote which was overwhelmingly ed with echos of "YES!" Some of the stakeholders that spoke to our correspondent said "the nomination of Vitalis is a true reflection of the wish of their people." They hinged their endorsement of Vitalis on his transparent nature and a Philanthropist that has touched the lives of many in their community positively despite not occupying any public office. The meeting which was chaired by Uzo-Uwani Council Chairman, Hon. Fidelis Ani had in attendance, the immediate past Chairman of the LGA, Hon. Cornell Onwubuya, past commissioner(s) and political appointees, s, Secretaries and of all the development centres, all the elected councillors, PDP, LGA, ward Chairmen, Traditional Rulers, President General of various Town Unions and party faithfuls. https://journalist101.com/2019/08/19/commissionership-wild-jubilation-in-uzo-uwani-lga-as-their-stakeholders-adopt-a-candidate/

Apart from the insurgency, however, Adamawa also suffers from cattle rustling and communal violence. https://journalist101.com/2019/08/04/leader-of-miyetti-allah-shot-dead/ |

•Says self-defense, a legitimate instrument of law •RUGA will be over our dead bodies ENUGU— President-General of apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief John Nnia Nwodo has asked the Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government to immediately arrest and disarm Fulani herdsmen in the South East region or face retaliatory measures. Nwodo who was visibly outraged over the brutal murder of Enugu Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. Paul Offu who was shot dead Thursday evening by suspected Fulani herdsmen along Ihe-Agbudu road in Awgu Local Government Area by suspected Fulani herdsmen said Ndigbo will no longer tolerate such heinous act again. Speaking to Journalist101 correspondent at the end of the monthly Igbo interactive programme ‘Nkata Umu Ibe’ held at Enugu Sports Club, the Igbo leader who roared against the proposal of Ruga settlement policy insisted that government cannot dictate to the indigenes of the land what they will do on their lands. According to Nwodo, “We’re all very angry and flustered, this is not the first time. Militant Fulani herdsmen went to a church in session in Benue state and attacked the church, killed two priests there and all the of the choir. They took over their uniforms, wore them and danced hilariously in jubilation of their dastardly act. They were photographed and the video went viral in Nigeria. “The faces of the herdsmen in the video were not hidden but not one person was arrested. This is about the third priest murdered in Enugu state. I knew about three that has been kidnapped and released after payment of ransom. “I’ve said it today that if the FG does not arrest Miyetti Allah people, disarm them and stop them from the licentiousness they have encouraged them to enjoy, we’ll begin to retaliate because self-defense is a legal and legitimate instrument of law. We’ll never accept this again.” Earlier in the programme, the Ohanaeze President has rejected moves by the Federal government to set up Ruga settlements in parts of the country, saying it was against the people’s wish. “We’re called a federation but what we practice in practical is unitary system of government where a president will be in Abuja and tell us we must give up our land for some foreigners that have so many similarities with him without minding how the owners of the land will feel. That will be over our dead bodies,” he hollered. The murdered Rev. Fr. Offu hailed from Okpatu in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu state and until his death, was the parish priest of St. James the Greater Parish, Ugbawka. https://journalist101.com/2019/08/03/murder-of-enugu-priest-arrest-disarm-miyetti-allah-now-else-nnia-nwodo-fumes/ |

The Federal Government has approved the disengagement of 2,525 beneficiaries of the N-Power Programme for absconding from their primary place of assignment. It also warned that acts of dereliction of duty, indolence, absenteeism and indiscipline on the part of volunteers would continue to be dealt with decisively and in line with the rules of engagement. Confirming the development, the Communications Manager, National Social Investment Office, Justice Bibiye said that 18,674 other beneficiaries of the initiative have voluntarily resigned, having secured permanent employment. He said, “It had earlier come to the notice of the Federal team that some of the N-Power beneficiaries had either absconded from their primary places of assignment or gained permanent employment subsequent to their commencement on the programme. “The Federal team has continued to encourage from the states from existing monitors, whistleblowers and of the public through it’s existing call centre and has acted swiftly by initially placing such beneficiaries on suspension for a period of 45 days. “Unless such beneficiaries are able to provide proof from their primary place of assignment and the state focal person that they were actually present, or absent with reason, their participation in the programme is terminated after the period of suspension. “So far, 2,525 beneficiaries have been delisted, following reports garnered from the various avenues, whilst 18,674 have voluntarily resigned, having secured permanent employment.” He said in a statement that reports from a few states, however, showed that some beneficiaries of the programme are said to have stayed away for long periods of time from their primary places of assignment, adding that this has led to the need for continued action against those who are seen to be undermining the smooth implementation of the Federal Government social intervention initiative. To ensure seamless execution of the programme in order to achieve the set goals, he said the NSIO has increased the number of monitoring partners. This, he noted, would help to enhance supervision and the strengthening of monitoring, for effective and efficient service delivery of all components of the NSIPs. “Beneficiaries must understand that N-Power is not a charity program and, therefore, everyone captured under the scheme is expected to justify his/her engagement by demonstrating diligence, hard work and commitment to duty at their PPAs. “Acts of dereliction of duty, indolence, absenteeism and indiscipline on the part of volunteers shall continue to be dealt with decisively and in line with the rules of engagement,” he added. https://journalist101.com/2019/07/24/npower-fg-sacks-2525-volunteers/ 1 Like 1 Share |

The list of ministerial nominees released by the president have continued to generate reactions from Nigerians. The recent reaction is coming from the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, and the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association, NECA. The two groups rejected the list describing it as “lacking innovation” and “containing recycled politicians.” The President of ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, noted that Buhari did not attach portfolios to the names of the nominees. Ogunyemi told reporters yesterday that, “The other observation is that there isn’t much innovation on the list. People are talking of a generation change and injecting fresh blood or a mixture of the old and the new. “But the new names on the list are people who have been in the political circle for some time. I am sure the younger generation would have been looking out for a list that would have accommodated their interest and representation.” Similarly, NECA noted that the list contained mostly names of recycled politicians. The Director-General, NECA, Timothy Olawale, in a statement yesterday, said Nigerians were disappointed having waited and expected to see some names of technocrats on the list. He said that NECA discovered that the list contained mostly recycled politicians that were picked based on political patronage and mostly for their roles as party men. “We had expected that with the delay by the President in constituting his cabinet, the team would be populated by professionals that had distinguished themselves in their area of calling. “That the selection would be based on merit and what they could offer by way of adding value to governance. While we cannot say those on the list cannot deliver on the government’s agenda, we note that they are mostly recycled politicians that are picked based on political patronage and mostly for their roles as party men. “We had hoped party considerations would be set aside to assemble technocrats that could lead the nation out of its current economic doldrums. “We only hope their tenure in office will be that of meritorious service to the nation and the good of the people and not marked by opportunity to recoup expenses incurred for political activities in the last elections. Nigerians are watching to assess them and it remains to be seen if they will selflessly live up to expectations.” https://journalist101.com/2019/07/24/groups-rejects-buharis-ministerial-nominees/ |

The U.S. Government has imposed visa restrictions on “individuals responsible for undermining the Nigerian democratic process”. A spokesperson of the U.S. Department of State, Ms Morgan Ortagus, who announced this in a statement on Tuesday, said the action applied to those responsible for election-related violence. Ortagus said the unidentified individuals had “operated with impunity at the expense of the Nigerian people and undermined democratic principles and human rights”. News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that no fewer than 39 persons died in violence related to the last general elections in the country. The action, according to the spokesperson, is in fulfillment of the U.S. government’s earlier promise to consider sanctions against anti-democratic forces, including organisers of election-related violence in the country. “In a Jan. 24 statement, the U.S. government said that we would consider consequences – including visa restrictions – for individuals responsible for undermining the Nigerian democratic process or for organising election-related violence. “To that end, the Secretary of State is imposing visa restrictions on Nigerians believed to be responsible for, or complicit in, undermining democracy in Nigeria.“These individuals have operated with impunity at the expense of the Nigerian people and undermined democratic principles and human rights,” she said. The spokesperson emphasised that the restrictions targeted at specific individuals and not directed at the Nigerian people or the newly-elected government. She explained that the decision reflected the Department’s commitment to working with the Nigerian government in its anti-corruption crusade and efforts to strengthen democracy, ability and respect for human rights. “The United States is a steadfast er of Nigerian democracy. “We commend all those Nigerians who participated peacefully in the February and March 2019 elections and have worked to strengthen Nigerian democratic institutions and processes. “As Nigeria marks the 20th anniversary of a return to democratic rule this year, we remain committed to working together to continue to advance democracy and respect for human rights and achieve greater peace and prosperity for both our nations. “We condemn those whose acts of violence, intimidation, or corruption harmed Nigerians or undermined the democratic process,” the spokesperson added. https://journalist101.com/2019/07/24/us-govt-imposes-sanction-on-election-riggers-in-nigeria/
