It is a failure of leadership... Even Owerri zone have nothing to show for the years of investment.

There is a need to rethink the concept of governance in IMO State. What drives the peoples choice? We need to ask critical questions and not pay homage to mediocrity.

Failure of followership as well.

Imo is touted to be the state with the highest rate of higher education in the SE.

But Imo people sink water boreholes for domestic water supply, perhaps happy over that, they will never ask their governors to provide treated public water supply system.

Imo people watch the state urban development process get reduced to become affair of Ekeonumwa, Douglas, Wethrel and few other urban things in Owerri. Rest of the state in decadence. Imo people can’t say no, why do you governors leave the rest of the state outside Owerri to decay?

Imo people watch Owerri zone covet all 6 government universities and polytechnics in Imo state, mass education in the area due to closeness to multi faculty government universities and polytechnics, profit from the institutions, while nothing goes to Orlu and Okigwe areas. Imo people keep quiet over the dangerous imbalance in rate of education between Owerri zone against rest of the state.

So imo state problems are followership problems, mainly.

Nna, I know you are like a voice crying in the wilderness... Don't worry they will soon hear you, ínü

Thanks for recognizing my plight.

People from Orlu zone have never had the advantages in closeness to multi faculty government university like people in Owerri zone have had for nearly a century.

So, few other people like me from Orlu area who are able to see the ugly development trend in Imo state hardly creep up to ask for what I ask IMSG - the most basic things govt must provide in Orlu area - the basic things IMSG have been providing in double or triplicate in Owerri area.

Good question considering how Owerri is saturated with a lot of hotels...and with new ones springing up almost on a monthly basis!

Imo State IGR is a joke -to put it mildly- and this has mainly to do with the ineffective, distracted and comedic governance they’ve been unfortunate to be saddled with! When they want to vote in a more serious and thorough gov’t, the bastards that have said Ndigbo will not progress will use the Supreme Court to overturn the will of the people! The same person that truncated Dee Sam Mbakwes’ result-driven gov’t more than thirty years ago is still around today to cause them more grief in 2020!

Hotels saturate Owerri, why? Because of the about 300,000 students jam packed in Owerri in all the universities and polys in Imo state restricted to Owerri area.

Rochas Okorocha government started to build what it called new site for Imo state university in Ogboko to lower the level of prostitution in Owerri.

Those who profit from the prostitution business colluded with profiteering local landlords and opposed Okorocha’s intention. Yet Okorocha government continued to build the university. Ihedioha government committee pronounced the university as wholly IMSG owned. Okorocha never raised any objection to the committee findings.

But governor Hope Uzodinma is political foe of Okorocha.

New Hotels emerge in Owerri - to the delight of those profiting from prostitution of our young students jam packed in Owerri.

Muhammadu Buhari ran for presidency and won, why can’t Yahaya Bello?

Nigeria’s skewed and lopsided political structure created by northern military dictators to favor northern region of Nigeria, guarantees that even a cow from northern region can beat a professor of Law or Economics from the southern regions, in Nigeria’s presidential election.

Planning a city is not magic.

But we often have grudge ravaged political leaders who even crumble once planned city because the city is not the hometown of the state leaders.
Aba in Abia state is victim of this.

In Imo state, the once elaborate streets well laid out during the 1970s in Orlu have become craters. No governor has come from the area since 2007.

Ha ha ha. In Nigeria where many state governors plan only state capital, develop only state capital.

The other parts of the state retreat to the 20th Century.

Visit Imo state, you will cry.

Wetherel Road fine sha. But below is the most major urban road that cuts across major living areas and economic development projects in Orlu.

Even Aboki will not be happy, and must shout out over this disparity if it is in his state.
Since 2007, when this road in Orlu got bad, Wethrel road in Owerri must have been reconstructed about 3 times.

It’s like a state run by fools.
Imo state is under a spell. Evil took over the state since 2007.

Destruction, abandon or rebuilding in Owerri since then. Who ate the funds to modernize other parts of Imo state since then?

Politicians’ Scramble for Ala Owerri is partly behind the rot in Imo state outside Owerri.

...and others from Owerri can’t shout out over the scramble. PH and Lagos songs of natives losing their ancestral this and that.... loading.

Because these political leaders since 2007 feel that they don’t come from either Okigwe or Orlu, they reduce to squalid state the once developing urban areas of Imo state. At whose interest in Imo state?

You think you intimidate anyone here by ing photos of Owerri.

In the minds of backward people and cheats, Owerri must be the only developing place in Imo state, Orlu and Okigwe must fold up.
But it never gonna happen. There’s comeuppance for those governors whose wickedness make Owerri be the only developing urban center in Imo state. The two governors who started it are having their tribulations already. No one can cheat nature and get away with it.

Wickedness- nothing but wickedness - will make any governor not maintain at least a few urban roads in Orlu and Okigwe as those in Owerri are rebuilt

The reconstruction of owerri-orlu road and owerri - okigwe road will take place on 30th Nov 2020. The project will be flagged by the governor

Owerri-Awka Road is the correct name for this road called Owerri-Orlu Road. The road shall serve Owerri to Awka - short cut to Enugu and Abuja- if the bridge at Ideato is now built.

Orlu needs its dilapidated urban roads to be rebuilt by IMSG now.

I'm not from Owerri and not from okigwe zone! You see why you shouldn't jump into hasty conclusions? And irrespective of what the imo state government is saying now, that university was started as the new imo state University but ultimately changed to Rochas university when sick minds in Owerri started petty politics and then into some sort of t ownership after the heat became intense on how you biuld a private university on lands appropriated as state investments... Now, he seem to have been bullied by his perennial political opponents to contemplate surrendering the whole edifice to the Imo state government since not doing so will have him up against gigantic corruption case. The rest they say is history. . Not interested in that mundane squabbles. Just frustrated with a governor that came in with overwhelming goodwill but always found it hard to finish projects started. Littering the whole state with very irritating numbers of substandard projects. What happened to the "hospitals in every local government" in imo state?

To enable whatever tertiary education institutions he establishes now to stay after he leaves office, governor Hope Uzodinma has to put Eastern Palm university to use.

Like you said, it was the petty politics of Owerri which made Okorocha devise the private/government ownership plot in order to continue to use state funds to build what he later called Eastern Palm university. It’s not known where else private/government ownership of university exists.

Like you rightly observed, Okorocha or his associates cannot lay any claim to the university, for fear of its corrupt practices implications.

Until Abuja looks better, Owerri and other places can be looked into. Typical mindset of a semi-illiterate. If you also find yourself as governor of Imo state in 2024, this is going to be your development policy; the development policy in Imo state since 2007.

What more do you know about Eastern Palm university than IMSG led by Imo professors who established that the university is property of IMSG?
Okorocha has never publicly disputed what the professors established.

You people with your loud and negative propaganda want to rot away a university ed with the National Universities Commission as Imo state government university?
All because you don’t want any development outside Owerri zone in Imo state.

After, you people will claim that Owerri, Orlu and Okigwe zones belong to the same Imo state? Tell the public what you know about Eastern Palm university; or stop your propaganda of falsehood.

How much does this attitude help igbos? He is from Orlu and even as governor, he didn't build any school acquisition center there. The one he tried to start , he couldn't finish it. The one already in place before he was sworn in, he didn't refurbish it. Ok, he built his own personal university but it hasn't been finished since almost 8 years now! I don't understand this man , Orji Kalu and Emeka Offor. Their desperation to be seen as better Nigerians make them do crazy things.. The projects they site elsewhere, their communities don't have them..

Bolded:

You are very deceptive in the bolded paragraph above.

The university is not property of Okorocha but you wish it is, all because many people from Owerri area would not want IMSU be extended to that university as proposed. It’s property of IMSG.
The structures in the university have been completed long ago. Bede, stop deceiving the public.

Can a seating state governor build and own a university?

Picking persons from rural areas to Okorocha’s skill center in Abuja, according to him.

His Imo West Senatorial zone has the most rural places in the east. Let him come home and pick from here. He left every community in his senatorial district rural with no useful development project after he governed Imo state for 8 years. He boasted that he was building capital city of Imo state.
