A report of a five-man set up by Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, to investigate the withdrawal of N852 million 2012 UBEC/SUBEB state counterpart fund has revealed that former Governor Kayode Fayemi did not embezzle the cash as alleged by his successor.

The in its report dated December 3, 2015 revealed that the cash was withdrawn from the of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) by Access Bank, Ado-Ekiti Branch, because “the last istration did not perfect the loan agreements with its failure to approve the agreed interest rate and providing Irrevocable Standing Payment Order (ISPO) for the loan.”

The was headed by former Ekiti State Chief Judge who is currently the Oluyin of Iyin-Ekiti, Oba Ademola Ajakaiye, while SUBEB Chairman, Bode Ola, served as secretary.

Other of the – are former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the state, Owoseni Ajayi; ant General, Mrs. O.O. Owolabi; Deputy Director, Physical Planning Unit, SUBEB, Ehinafe Olakunle (now late), Dapo Akinyemi and B.J. Ogundare.



It was gathered that the bank agreed to grant the Fayemi istration the facility after the June 21, 2014 governorship election but Fayose who was then the governor-elect warned the bank against granting the facility.

The bank deferred to Fayose and the cash was returned to the vault in a bid to ensure a smooth business relationship with him when he takes over as governor in October of same year.

Fayose had accused Fayemi, who is now Minister of Mines and Steel Development, of looting the funds.

He claimed that the development had denied the state of counterpart funds from the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) to execute projects in public schools in the state.

The former governor however denied the allegation.

It was on the basis of the allegation that the state House of Assembly summoned the minister to offer explanation on the matter which he declined on grounds that details on what happened to the funds are contained in his handover note.



After failing to compel Fayemi’s appearance in the Assembly, the lawmakers asked Fayose to raise a judicial of inquiry to probe the management of the state finances between October 2010 and October 2014 during the minister’s tenure as governor.

The led by former Acting Chief Judge, Justice Silas Oyewole (retd) is currently investigating Fayemi’s tenure.

Indication appeared Monday that 188, 580 electorates from Kogi West have signed the recall form to oust Senator Dino Melaye from the National Assembly.

The returning officer for the recall of the lawmaker, Adamu Yusuf claimed that out of 360,098 of the total ed voters from the seven local government areas that make up the senatorial district: Yagba, Mopa-Muro, Kabba Bunu, Yagba East, Koton Karfe, Lokoja and Ijumu, 188, 588, signed the recall constituting 52.3 per cent of the voters in the district.

He stated that the breakdown of the recall exercise for Yagba East – out of 35,331 ed voters, 18, 374 (52 per cent) signed the recall .

Others are Mopa-Moro, 18,356 voters (9,186 signed – 50.04 per cent), Kabba/Bunu 60,522, voters (28,277 – 46.7 per cent) and Yagba West, 35, 966 ed voters, 20,029 signed – 55.7 per cent.



Lokoja LG, 63, 736 (54.8 per cent) out of 116, 296 ed voters.

For Koton-Karfe 24,703 (52.77 per cent) and Ijumu, 46,819 ed voters, 24, 238 representing 51.8 per cent.

He added: “Going by the above figures, it is important to let Nigerians know that we have met the constitutional requirements of 51.1 per cent. Senator Melaye has failed to represent Kogi West so we are calling him back home”.

All the seven council s from Kogi West were present at the event which held at the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat, Lokoja.

No fewer than five persons were hit with bullet at the gate of Kogi State polytechnic, Lokoja where senator Dino Melaye was holding a protest against the state government. The protest which stated around 11am turned bloody when gunmen yet to be identified invaded the venue of protset. The gunmen who stormed the venue from the Nataco junction brandishing guns of different guns and cutlasses started shooting into different direction sending people scampering for safety including journalists who were at hands to cover the event. Before the Army and the state commissioner of Police could reach there almost an hour into the shooting, five persons have fell victims of gun shots with a vehicle caught in flame as well. …details latter.

Senator Dino Melaye has revealed how he deliberately framed others in his alleged assassination case, using the police. In yet another phone audiotape obtained exclusively by Saharareporters, he tells Muhammed Audu, the son of late former Governor of Kogi State Abubakar Audu how he used his connections with the police to frame someone referred to as "Edward" (believed to be Edward Onoja, the Chief of Staff to the current Kogi State Governor), in the alleged assassination attempt on him at his country home.

The Kogi State Senator reported an assassination attempt on his life at his home in Ijumu on April 15, and on April 29, the police paraded six persons, including the chairman of Ijumu Local Government area, one Taofik Isah, who were allegedly involved in the crime.


On the new audiotape, Melaye, speaking mostly in Hausa, reveals to Muhammed that the assassination story was carefully orchestrated to rope in his opponent, and how his access to the highest echelons of the police facilitated his effort to frame “Edward” in the alleged plot to assassinate him.

Only last week, SaharaReporters published another audiotape in which Senator Melaye was caught bribing Justice Akon Ikpeme of the Cross River State High Court in the election petition tribunal process which brought him to the Senate two years ago.

All the persons alleged to have participated in the assassination are currently on bail.
