Finally the chicken are coming to roost after terrible choice for president.

Alas Prof. Tam David west got his groove back, thanks to Fuel price hike.

The fuel price increase is still a front-burner issue in Nigeria

– Former minister of petroleum and energy, Prof Tam David-West has added his voice to the debate

– David-West is one of the vocal ers of President Muhammadu Buhari

The decision of the federal government to remove petroleum subsidies thereby increasing the pump price of a litre of fuel has not gone down well with Professor Tam David-West.

A vocal er of President Buhari, the former minister of petroleum and energy berated the Federal Government for increasing the price, saying it is nonsense and unjustifiable.

Prof Tam David-West

Speaking with Daily Sun yesterday, May 20, in Ibadan; the Oyo state capital, David-West stated that petrol can be sold at N40 per litre in Nigeria.

David-West had adopted the same stand before the 2015 general elections where he boasted that petrol will be sold for N40 per litre if Buhari was elected president.

According to him, Petroleum Equalisation Fund (PEF), demurrage, charges by Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), jetty and depot charges, retailer’s margin on petroleum, transporter’s margin on petroleum, dealer’s margin on petroleum, smuggling across borders, storage and so on were some of the additional charges put on the price of PMS.

His words: “When I heard the minister of state for petroleum (Ibe Kachikwu), saying they smuggled our petrol across borders and that was the reason for the increase, it is nonsense. I used the word nonsense because during my time, we closed the borders. If I could do it, he could do it too; and it is the same head of state (Buhari).

“We ensured there was no petrol station several kilometres to the borders. Government would not approve fuel station that is close to the borders. Another illogicality of that argument is if you sell petrol in Nigeria for N150 per litre, the people across the borders are ready to pay N160; if you sell for N200, they are ready to pay N210. So, there will still be smuggling. So, increasing petrol price in Nigeria does not stop smuggling.”

He noted further that “the fuel price increase is confusing. A government official said it is subsidy removal, which is not. Another one says smuggling, which is untenable. Foreign exchange (Forex) was also mentioned, which is partially tenable because the country’s foreign exchange has gone down drastically. So, it is so difficult now to source forex to import fuel.

“If I am into managing of oil and foreign exchange goes down, why should a man on the street pay for it? No matter the reason, N145 per litre is not justified. If they removed all the unnecessary additions on the price of petroleum such as bridging or Petroleum Equalisation Fund, dealer’s margin, transporter’s margin, retailer’s margin, storage, depot margin, and NPA charges, petrol price will come down to N40 per litre.”

He decried the confusion that has characterized the announcement of the policy, stating that the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie- Oyegun and Kachikwu said the hike in fuel price was necessitated by subsidy removal, but the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, said it was because of foreign exchange.

He said: “What they are doing is embarrassing to him. Buhari has said it repeatedly that there is no subsidy. I stand by him that there is no subsidy as such. If you say you have come to remove subsidy, will you remove what does not exist?

“Kachikwu, I don’t know him and I have never met him before; he is brilliant from his CV (Curriculum Vitae). I respect him for his CV. He has got a very beautiful CV. But sometimes, he says things that are, to me, outrageous.

“A business man runs a business to make profit. Government should encourage businessmen to be in business by allowing them not to run at a loss. Government also has a responsibility to make sure that businessmen do not exploit the people.

“Right now, we are interested more in businessmen making profit while they (government) turned their back to common man being exploited or suffering.”

Meanwhile, the Vehicle Owners Association of Nigeria (VOAN) has condemned the decision by the federal government to remove the petroleum subsidy, in the face of socio-economic hardship being experienced in the country.

The group also called for immediate reversal of the policy which it described as “obnoxious and anti-people”; even as it ened President Buhari to urgently summon a stakeholders meeting in other to find lasting solution to the energy crisis instead of resorting to piece-meal approach in solving the problem.

This is quite serious, and it will be difficult to extricate the former president from complexity and corruption if this is found to be true.

Please read what Hassan Tukur said about the botched Chibok negotiation for the release of Chibok girls using Idris Deby, Chadean president, as mediator.

He allegedly received $5million USD for this negotiation with the Boko haram while Hassan Tukur cornered the remaining $35million USD.
During interrogation he deposed that the $35 million USD was shared between himself and Jonathan.

Source: http://saharareporters.com/2016/05/21/president-jonathans-top-aide-hassan-tukur-detained-over-chibok-girls-40m-scam

SaharaReporters has learned that Hassan Tukur, who served as principal secretary to former President Goodluck Jonathan, has been making shocking disclosures to agents of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) since he was arrested and detained last week.

Two senior EFCC sources told a correspondent of SaharaReporters that Mr. Tukur was arrested over allegations that he diverted the sum of $40 million ostensibly meant for the negotiated release of 219 Chibok girls abducted by Boko Haram militants in April 2014.

One of our sources disclosed that Mr. Tukur has told investigators that he diverted the funds with the approval and at the instance of the ex-president.

Another source said Mr. Tukur realized he was in deep trouble last Friday after he met the conditions for “istrative bail." "We told him that orders had come from above to get to the root of the matter, and that's when he began to make useful statements," said the source.

Mr. Tukur reportedly received $40 million from the office of the National Security Adviser after he boasted that he was in a position to negotiate the release of the abducted Chibok girls using some s in Chad, including Chadian President Idriss Deby.

However, the EFCC sources said the ostensible negotiation were botched from the very beginning by Mr. Tukur's deceptive moves. For example, President Déby reportedly received only $5 million from Mr. Tukur, who then helped himself to $35 million.

One EFCC source said the former presidential aide has claimed that he shared the bulk of the "negotiation" funds with his boss, Mr. Jonathan.

Mr. Tukur's alleged disclosures are bound to be unsettling for the former president’s camp, one source said. According to him, Mr. Tukur has volunteered information regarding his role in other financial scandals unrelated to his arrest.

A source at the Presidency told SaharaReporters that President Muhammadu Buhari was shocked to learn from the Chadian president about the insincerity of the former istration's actions regarding the abducted schoolgirls.

According to the source, during the recently concluded Regional Security Summit in Abuja, Mr. Buhari had pulled aside his Chadian counterpart to find out why Mr. Deby collected $40m from Nigeria to secure the release of Chibok girls and did nothing in return.

The Chadian president reportedly revealed that he was only told that the Jonathan istration had voted only $10 million for the negotiations. He added that Mr. Jonathan and his aides had abandoned the negotiation midway, forcing Chad to abandon its efforts even though Chadian troops were close to cornering Boko Haram militants and freeing the girls.

Mr. Deby reportedly told President Buhari that Mr. Tukur and other Nigerian officials to reach Mr. Jonathan to discuss the rescue plan.

The source stated that on one occasion when the Chadian leader reached the former Nigerian president, Mr. Jonathan feigned ignorance about the negotiations. At the time, the funds had apparently been diverted.

Chadian troops finally withdrew from Nigerian territory after a breakdown of talks even though they had made great progress in pursuit of Boko Haram insurgents, helping Nigeria's vastly depleted army to free up territories captured by the Islamist terrorists.

Mr. Tukur made a total of five trips to N’Djamena, the capital of Chad. Our Presidency source said Mr. Tukur used presidential jets to ferry cash during the failed negotiations to release the Chibok girls.

The detention of Mr. Tukur is considered a major blow to ex-President Jonathan. During Mr. Jonathan’s five-year reign as President, Mr. Tukur was popularly referred to as Prime Minister. The Adamawa-born civil servant served as a go-between for Jonathan, his ministers and aides.

Ironically, Mr. Tukur was Mr. Buhari’s personal assistant in 1984 when the Nigerian president was a military head of state.

INFORMATION reaching The PUNCH as of 11.23pm on Wednesday says the late Ronke Shonde, who was allegedly killed by her husband, Lekan, died from respiratory seizure.

The final autopsy report, which just got to the State Department of Criminal Investigation, revealed that the victim did not die from domestic violence.

A very reliable source said, “The final autopsy result has been released. In fact, it is just getting to the SDCI. The summary of the report is that she did not die from the bruises on her body. She died from respiratory seizure.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Police Command, Dolapo Bos, confirmed that the police had got the report, adding that the details would be released on Thursday.

It will be recalled that the husband of the deceased, Lekan, 51, was alleged to have beaten his wife to death at their home in the Egbeda-Idimu area of Lagos State, a few days ago.

He had accused Ronke of sleeping with one Kayode, the general manager of a publishing company.

After three days in hiding, Lekan gave himself up to the police.

An outrage had greeted the death of the lady even as the social media was awash with various comments about her death.

A groom filed for divorce from his bride on their wedding night because she was busy texting her friends instead of having sex with him. A relative said after the wedding ceremony the Saudi bride and groom went to their hotel room in Manama in Bahrain and when he tried to consummate their marriage, his wife decided to use that time to reply friends who had sent their congratulations.

The same relative said the groom asked her to stop texting she refused and became angry. He added:

"When he asked her if her friends were more important than he was, the bride answered that they were."

During the heated argument between them, the groom told her he was divorcing her and left the hotel.

The relative said that the groom filed for a divorce, the case was filed and the court referred it to the reconciliation committee to see if the newly-weds could be reconciled. But the groom refused to withdraw the case insisting he was no longer in being married to the bride and that the divorce case should proceed.

Why should a lady even ask a guy for money, is he the CBN, ATM or her personal holder?

If you must demand equality at every turn then you must be financially independent too.

Guys stop this bleep begging, sex is not a gift. It is not for either parties to give; both should enjoy it and walk away with no feeling of indebtedness.

Mtcheeeeeeeew. grin

Their is prostitution because their is a demand for it: stop the demand and bitching will disappear. Then real women will re-surface and honorable men will be born

I can truly now confirm that this Govt. is shameless.
Muscling NLC with a court injunction to jettison the planned strike!!!!!

This is a new low.

Even such low were not practiced during the military era using the court as a weak appendage to foster the bond chain fettered to the necks and the yoke upon their shoulders.

The FG in connivance with the AGF intend to force on the citizenry this hardship.

This action simply shows that this Govt. is tyrannical in nature and abhors democratic process to dispute resolution.

The people must have their say, the majority their way.

#OfficialAPC=Chain.

No wonder so much money was allocated to the ministry of Information and culture as they know that anti-people policies would be a recurrent decimal in this Govt. hence the need to help launder its image.

Am sure this is to weaken the resolve of the NLC, create a false representation and discredit the true reason of the strike in disguise that even the masses prefer and they are in of the price hike in petrol.

This is a poor job.

Even though am in of the removal of the subsidy, the owner of the policy must do the job of convincing and debating the policy thrust, with detailed plans on what would be saved from floating refined product prices with the exchange rates, where will the savings be applied and how to monitor the investment such savings will be channeled into.

Honestly it their failures, clearly explain their sacrifice and demonstrate to the citizens what they intend to do differently if the people accept the new price regime and show commitment to drive the plans from the top. In other words they must show immense responsibilities for the past and present roap to getting us out of this woods.

Do not bully the people into accepting this bitter pill, debate it by calling a t session of the house of assembly and let the proponents of no subsidy removal argue their case against the president simple.

I woke up today terrified about my thoughts.
I woke up today with the boldest of conspiracy theory.

The Insurgency re-surfacing may not be by happenstance.

Who gains by the resurgence of militancy in the creek?

I shudder at the thought of it at first, but as they will say follow the money and the motive will be staring at you in the face.
Piece the money trails and the crumbs of investigation can be pieced together to build a solid case.

Oil prices are on an upward swing since the oil militancy started buoyed by production loss as well as force majeure declared.

Who had benefitted from this already? Iran recently double production figure after the ban---from a little above 2mBOPD to about 4mBOPD.

Secondly, the price re-bounce as forced price revision in the prediction of oil prices for the rest of the year by all known commodity indices.

The Shale producers are muting a return to profitability and increased production.

Who is paying/ing the militancy in a veiled attempt to shore up prices of crude oil.

Your guess is as good as mine, as these two places have one thing in common, recent visits and fraternizing by a sitting president.

Conspiracytheory....part 1

In the wake of Boko Haram menace I had suggested this move as a Kings move, as the funding for Boko Haram initially was from the proceeds from Oil Blocks until the monster was let out of the cage.
Jonathan was advised to revoke all oil blocks to these individuals. Why? Even if the likes of Dajuma, Dantata and Co. were to live 100 times over with the type of jobs they were involved in, in this life time, they cannot afford the cost for OPL let alone OML and Seismic data acquisition. Talk more of the Drilling and production facilities.

what will be their leverage except for corrupt power position even if they were to enter into partnership with companies with track records and finances.

IYC should not ask for equitable distribution as this alone will be injustice, but outright revocation and forfeiture of all s, assets and properties ill-gotten from the wealth of these oil blocks.

Those under whom these oil blocks Like PMB, Lukeman Rilwane, OBJ, IBB were obtained should be probed and brought to book.

This is justice, this is fighting corruption, this is being equitable and this is the acceptable practice worldwide.

But all the same thanks for you advice

My dear it is not a low. You tacitly gave approval to the act like all ladies do.

Ambiguity.

If you allowed her to the birthday knowing the history of both what were you expecting?

Every guy and lady chemistry operate on a number, once this number is achieved or forced both items will Bleep themselves, or loose control if they have done it before.

So decide if you want to postpone the wedding bells and seek a chance to observe a positive change from your man or you want to forfeit same totally.

If the former, then plan to speak with the lady, understand the relationship she has with your man and simply have a sister to sister talk.

If this doesn't go as plan; enter combative mode: study your rival and outdo her simple.

At the old exchange rate of 198-199 Naira to Dollars,

45,000NGN will translate to 227.22 Dollars per month

That translates to 7.58USD per day for a 30 Day Month

If you take the 30days month this translate 0.25USD per hour, by no means the poorest in Africa

This is just sickening

Which of them earns this peanuts for Sitting allowance talk more of salary.

These Govt is heartless.

If they must justify their actions and compare them to best practices abroad, they should at least pay comparably to these countries' minimum wage.

Heartless Govt....a troy gift of reducing workforce for a peanuts

Labour agrees to this they should all be flogged publicly and stripped like WRPC did to their management.

Guys never marry any girl against your parents wish just because of love. who love don epp?

If the woman cannot work out her relationship with your parents, then she ain't worth being your wife.

It is all too common for ladies to call a man who decide to listen to their parents on the choice of marriage as weaklings or not man enough while they themselves hope to give birth to Son who will value them even after they are married with a home of their own.

If she is not agreeable with your parents, then she will not be agreeable with you in the marriage. You can take that to the bank. If she loves you, she must love the whole package.

And that my dear means you, your siblings and your parents.

So ladies get your relationship right with your man's parent as he did not fall down from the tree, neither did he fall down from the heavens. Some parents must have labored to make him the gentleman you are in love with and they deserve a woman who will not make their kid forget about them and their labor of love.

Why is the presidency embarrassed by Cameron's statement.

He is only echoing what the President of Nigeria said about his country and her people.....Nigerians are criminals.

When some us criticized it as a serious Presidential slip, he was praised for being brutally honest.

You cannot eat your cake and have it, if the President is so pained by the utterance of the British PM he should use the world stage to show this, by issuing rebuttals befitting his angst against the British PM statement and for his outright disdain for his people and country.

To group us in the class of Afghanis is to tell you how low diplomatically and politically they consider the country.

Infact, they consider us bot-flies no better than to cut-off literally.

I would have suggested Buhari call the PM to issue a public apology using the same medium transmitted live, and I dear say spark off a diplomatic row if an apology is not tendered in the shortest time.

Whether he will do this or will be too cowed for fear of losing aids, financial , political and for recovering stolen wealth is a political statement this presidency cannot afford not to make if it will be taken seriously by other country in the comity of Nations.

Buhari demand for a public apology broadcasted live by same medium or call back your ambassador to the UK and send back British Commissioner in Nigeria until they do.

@Hutila Correctly put....could it be that the women now see themselves as men; which means they demand the same "privileges" arrogated to men now. Hence the definition of man as equal partner.

Or as you said in your surmise that men are not reading the intention, or are not taking the charge for fear of being stereotyped as a chauvinist or he is simply what the ladies call him......a dog, the best friend to the real human(women) and obedient to a fault to their master( with the promise of sex and/or companionship) who will only quickly tag him a beast if he bears his fang someday to several days of verbal abuse.

tbaba1234:

1. The standard time for building Hydro power plant of this size is 5 years.

2. You are not in any threat of technology changes in Hydro-power plants, technology changes do not happen that fast in that industry.

Tbaba you may not be too correct as actual constructions don't take that long.

Maybe Environment Impact Assessment
Procurement
Permits and other legal works if combined then yes, but actual construction like in this case can be consummated in no less than 36months.

It is an sadly true that power technology is not rapidly changing but it is changing at a pace shorter than the time frame of this project.

Additionally, hydro-dams are gradually incorporating other forms of generation to augment during low water situations.
Examples include hydro-dams with Close Combined gas turbine system with hydro systems. Or hydro with thermal system. hydro and wind plus a whole lot of other mix.

What makes it more interesting is that no hydro-dam is built on a singular operating principle anymore as a curtail of energy mix is usually planned with it, but tbaba am sure this has no such plan as they were not forward looking.

Yes technology may not change that fast, but it changes nonetheless with the attendant OEM spare part issues when it is commission.

I have a lot of examples here in the plant I work in...where the manufacturers of the parts used in some project have either stop stocking the parts or liquidate altogether.

huntila:
A modern man has so much distractions and temptations to deal with

Yes @huntila but what are these distractions that seem to define him now.
Men are evolving, learning to tame the men in them.
Becoming puppets you may say.... Becoming taciturn and gradually now like to not be seen or heard.
We need to know what is considered the societal correct attribute of today's man acceptable by our women.
Also to check if this expectations are not a creation of the imagination and need to control the eventual outcome or justifiably so.
