We have herbalist performing surgeries in some parts of the country right now. They even employ nurses and pay them more than qualified doctors pay sef. We have people who can't even spell the words 'anatomy' , 'physiology' or 'Biochemistry' opening shops and itting people, giving injections and doing some minor surgeries and the people don't complain. Doctors make mistakes all over the world. If not, Stella Obasanjo would still be alive. If not, Joan Rivers of fashion police would still be alive. If not, Michael Jackson would not have died in the care of Dr. Conrad Murray in 2009. This is not a Nigerian doctor thing. If at all there is anybody to be blamed for most avoidable deaths in the Nigerian health system, it's the government and it's health s, not usually practising clinicians. DON'T SHADE/BLAME NIGERIAN DOCTORS ON THIS STELLA ODUAH's SON's DEATH. A single event like this shouldn't cast doubt on thousands of responsible hard working Others. Every day, Nigerian doctors are risking their lives to safe the lives of others. Some even died during the Ebola and lassa fever outbreaks while trying to save Nigeria. No appreciation by the people? Rest on Maxwell..... 1 Like |

I was in the kitchen washing plates on a tuesday afternoon around 1:00pm when a man called me. He said 'Hello, how are you?' This is honourable speaking. One of my friends who is a special adviser(SA) to the commissioner of youth, sports and development is in charge of a youth empowerment program. He gave me some slots and I just feel like helping you with one out of it if you don't mind. It's 40k per month but you'll be taking 20k and my friend who is the SA will be chopping the remaining 20k every month. It's just a favour my dear, or are you not going to be able to do it?' . Without asking which honourable he is, I said YES SIR, I'll do it SIR, It's OKAY Sir, automatically assuming I knew him. He then said what are you doing now. I said I'm home. He said, good my dear because the slot is closing today and the money will be continous for 2 years. HE WAS TALKING LIKE A BIG MAN. Said I should go to First Bank and open a new in my name and send it with my own seperate present to him now now now. 'Ha, It's closing today my dear', he said. I left the plate I was washing immediately and hurried like a jet to the bank saying thank God for this mehn, did what he said and sent him the details. He said, 'Good my dear, make sure you collect ATM card for the new and for alert with the SA number, which he gave. I did as instructed. Then called again after sometime 'Good my dear, I don't know why I'm doing this, just to help you. Congratulations, the SA has accepted you. Call him with the number I'll text you now, just follow his instructions, okay? I said YES SIR. Then I asked, how should I introduce myself to him SIR. He said, 'just tell him from honourable'. At this point I became suspicious, wondering why he wouldn't put his name after the honourable. Checked his number on truecaller and saw "Chief Onuigbo". Checked that of the SA and saw 'Immigration HR officer'. At this point I woke up PARTIALLY. Nevertheless, I went ahead and called the SA. He was also forming and speaking like a big man. He said ' good good good, It's okay. I'm very busy now, Will be on my way to Aba this evening for a meeting. Just go to any peace mass transit and send the ATM and pin number of the second new you just opened in an envelope to Aba. write my number on the envelope so that they can call me when it gets here. I said 'Okay sir'. I hope honorable told you? he said, I'll be using that to collect my share for the next 2 years and you too will be getting yours in your . If they appoint us again after 2 years, then you'll collect for 4 years. Okay? I said Yes Sir. After walking few steps, I ed all the stories I have heard about Aba city and 419. At this point I woke Up FULLY and Finally. I stopped picking both the honorable and SA numbers, who both called back severally. I was saved! But up till today, I still wonder who they were, are they my close friends? what was their ENDGAME? What were they planning? |

Don't loose the day while waiting for the night. Enjoy every moment |

Back in those days when we had to go for night browsings at cafes to just 52MB file throughout the night on a 128MB flash drive(looks big then). This takes about 1 minute on most smartphones nowadays. Back in those days when if you walk into a room with any handset, everybody starts looking at you like a big person. Mobile phones are commoner than purewaters nowadays. Back in those days that only the richest of the richest had those very big monster dishes in their houses to watch satellite stations. Nowadays, with a less than 4000 naira decoder, you'll have access to more channels than they had then. Back in those days when MTN was selling 5MB for 100 naira. Airtel now has a plan of 1GB for 50 naira. Back in the days when a sim card was sold for 25,000 naira. Now they run after people by roadsides and parks to collect sim cards for free with promo airtime and data. Naija Sha... If you can wait, things that are looking flashy nowadays go become purewater tomorrow. Share your #BackInTheDays experience too. |

nelszx: 1. Charlatans can be found in any profession. In the medical world, they are those who claim to have the required medical skills and knowledge to treat or manage a patient but actually don't. They behave like medical practitioners but in reality and by qualifications are not 2. Pathologists who are by default doctors are the ones in charge of laboratories in the civilised world. Other workers are allied (render and assistance) but due to shortages of pathologists, these allied are already assuming roles of pathologists. 3. Most don't have the knowledge of how to intepret the test results. Interpretation is more important than just carrying out a test. The Nigeria situation gives most people no better option as they are the only ones available in most parts of the country. In the abscence of a pathologist, a medical lab scientist can help. 4. Yes. Nurses, Engineers and many more are emigrating. It's a sad situation. |

AN INTERESTING NOTE TO THE NIGERIAN PUBLIC FROM A MEDICAL DOCTOR (BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE) Fellow NIGERIANS. If the nose itches a rich Nigerian or politician today, the next thing is to travel to foreign lands for evaluation. How many Rs (resuscitations) have you seen in our hospitals being done for dying patients? What's the percentage of the successful ones that bring patients back to life? Maybe 0.5%, maybe 2%, maybe 5%. Something is wrong somewhere. So if you or someone you know needs a resuscitation/R now(God forbids), you know the percentage of the likely success already?. And the fact is that it can be anybody; a market woman('under priviledged') or a minister/governor('priviledged') in his office who suddenly collapses. No facilities in most(not all) hospitals, I mean basic MODERN ones. We need to get our priorities right. , anybody can become an emergency room patient at anytime irrespective of your status (from my experience). Right now, medical doctors (and other brilliant Nigerian trained professionals) are fleeing the country at an all-time alarming rate. Do you know that about 3,000 Nigeria-trained medical doctors are practising in the UK presently, 5,000 in the US, 1500+ in south Africa and thousands more in other countries of the world?. Due to the gaps being left behind by their departure, CHARLATANS AND HERBALISTS have started peforming surgeries, conducting lab tests and giving injections to our people (even the educated ones) in some areas of the country right now. Is this just the begining? My guess is that it might get worse if nothing is done. Just compare this.... The United States of America has a whooping 826,000 currently active medical doctors as of now and they are still looking for many more who are employable to ..... My country, Nigeria NEEDS 237,000 doctors according to WHO to keep the Nigerian populace healthy, but instead has ONLY 35,000 (14.8%). Yet, they can't even take care of these few ones. I guess it's more of 'priority' issue than of 'economy'. Just 14.8% out of the required 237,000. Are we going to wait until all our medical doctors leave the country, leaving behind a gap that allows Charlatans to start conducting lab tests with poor interpretations, herbalists doing surgeries and giving injections to our people (it's already happening though)? Is that what the government wants or what the good people of Nigeria deserve? If not, then the government and we the people of Nigeria need to start setting our priorities right and listening to the plight of doctors and other issues (timed-bomb) in the health sector BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.. Or is it a crime as a Nigerian medical doctor to stay back and practice in your country out of patriotism rather than the exodus of many who have left for greener pastures? Asking for about 33% of what their colleagues in civilised world are being payed and people(including relatively well payed allied health workers) are slandering them as being greedy? These are not politicians or hip hop artists, these are qualified, sound and some, gifted/talented medical doctors. Or is this a problem of our value system in the country? Before it is too late, don't slander, stop saying medical doctors are enjoying but share to inform more people about Nigerian medical doctors' current situation. #Shared as recieved..... |
