Advice needed!
The DC component of my solar installation has been sparking and melting of late. Sometimes, it stops charging altogether, until we reboot the system. We were told to replace the unit, which is 63 amps. Now we are contemplating getting the 100amps or 123amps...is this ok?
Again, what is the best brand to go for; the current one we are using is Schneider but it seems fake. What better brands are out there?
DC component of what? Is it the breaker or inverter?

Anyone using this locally fabricated ice block making machines? What's the power consumption like? An uncle of mine wants to design a solar system for it

what u two are talking about are 2 different things, that is if u want to go into ice block making business then this type of ice-maker are locally fabricated and if it uses Inverter.. It does not use inverter. It has to be used where electricity is almost constant
U are the one who's not getting my question. I know it's fabricated which is why i need a to give me an idea of the current draw. There's no appliance that cant work with inverter, its just abt using the appropriate size of inverter

This is the freezer ideal for making ice blocks here in naija,i think it's constructed and can make about 60 ice 🧊 blocks in about an hour or so
How many compressors does it have? Any idea ow much current it draws? A family friend wants to install an inverter system for his which he said uses 3 compressors so want to know its power consumption.

Honestly I think you should also Google this or at least post on well-trafficked solar DIY forums. Much of the information here lately is not rooted in any science, just conjecture. No offense.
U cud give ur advise without disparaging others. Everyone's here to learn.

@6x300w
Parallel connection will give me 31v 48amps.
2s3p will give me 62v 24amps
3s2p will give 93v 16amps
Am a newbie, please which option is more favorable.
Pardon any error u might notice. Thanks bosses.
A 3s2p would be ur best choice. If u jad 8 s, 4s2p would be fine seeing ur max pv voltage is 145. This wud even mean u use smaller wire guage from due to the lower current.

K. Actually have a 60A zinox mppt.
U mean it sud be 2x31v in series and parallel the 3 sets.
Correct?
What's ur specifications? Voc and Vmp? Imp and Isc? What's ur mppt max pv input and volt?

Mine is all parallel. 24v. What part of Nigeria are u?
That's what's causing ur low yield. You are using an Mppt not a pwm so why parallel all? Who did ur installation for u? For the powmr which i think u are using, max mppt voltage for 24v system is 105v so for me using 4 300w s with pmax of 43v, I did 2 strings of 2 s in series and then parallel both. U need a higher voltage input to enjoy ur mppt.

Have similar setup and the max I've gotten this period is 22amps.
Just myv2 cents.
How many volt system? How many watts from ur ? I have a 24v system with 1200watts of connected 2s2p and i get btw 700 and 900 watts using a 60amp mppt.

Good afternoon house, I have a 24v set up of 2*250ah Luminous tubular batteries, 45A felicity Mppt CC. I have 300w * 6 solar s (just ordered 2 more s and will install by weekend) mounted on the roof and at peak period I get like 600w, 25ahms on the Charge Controller. Am I getting the best out of the 6 s with the reading reported above? if not, what do I need to do to get more from the s. Thank you.
N.B
The charges my former 200 ahms battery to float everyday with load but it hasn't been able to do same with the new 250ahms battery with the same load as before.
Ur solar harvest looks poor, 600watts from 1800w s seems low. Instead of adding s, u sud find the fault first. How were the s connected? Is it even facing the right direction? Is it exceeding the max pv volt of ur charge controller? U are using bigger batteries now which wud require more charging time, than the previous 200amp battery, depending on ow much u discharge it.

U need battery connected to it regardless. At least for the sms. Tried it and it kept going off anytime the solar output went low/off

I typed 3.5KW because I use one.
not Glorified 5KVA which is 4KW... What's the difference here?
He will be running the AC during the day for only a few hours.
Also, there would be losses due to No load consumption on 5KVA.
I am not doubting you. I just like to ensure my inverter's continuous load isnt more than 30 to 40%. With his load of over 1800watts, thats 50% continuous load not including if any appliance has a surge rating

Why not go for a 3.5KW SMS sunmate hybrid inverter. Probably with a 2Kwh battery bank. And and let's say a 1.5KW or 2Kw solar array. Might be best value for money as you can expand.
Other perks: DC breaker, transient protector.
The hybrid inverter comes with it's cc. Cost around 350K.
Like play like play 850 don go, except prolly u go do without battery...just dey flex am for day time. Keep in mind, it is better to do DIY that you can easily expand on without selling parts.
Open to corrections.
All the best.
That sms inverter price u quoted, when did u cost it? It was 440k abt 2 weeks ago.
The 850k might just be barely okay for a 12v solar system with todays market price

You can start with a 24V system.
I already have a 60amps MPPT (Powmr).
How many watts of solar s will take? 1600W
What KVA inverter will be fine for it? 3.5KW
How many ah of lithium battery? 200AH or 5KWH.
OR
A 48V System
I already have a 60amps MPPT (Powmr).
How many watts of solar s will take? 3200W
What KVA inverter will be fine for it? 3.5KW to 5.5KW
How many ah of lithium battery? 100AH/5KWH to 200AH/10KWH
Above is the minimum, you can do as the budget permits you.
With that load, a 5kva wud be his best choice unless he's getting a tier 1 3.5kva with actual capacity that can deal wit running 50% continuous load.

Will it be detrimental to my batteries (2*220ah tubular,2.5kva smarten,2*475w(produces 700-900w at peak sunlight)) to run a 1hp dual inverter AC on it during sunlight peak hours??
U sud consider adding to ur s. That 700w might hardly power ur AC not to talk of charging ur batteries unless u dont need the charging part.

Pls ogas in the house... For a 48v hybrid system using 4 220ah tubular batteries, whats the maximum charge current setting on the inverter? Was thinking 20amps was fine but someone advised I can go as high as 40amps. Wont this damage the battery in the long run?
Then wit the recent postings about high current mppts, does it mean a 60amps mppt wud pump 60amps into the battery connected under optimal conditions? Powmr for example only has settings for float/bulk voltage and type of battery but none for max current? Should I be scared? I av 1200watts of s connected via it to 24v tubular system.
Pls still waiting for reply to my questions 🙏🙏🙏

people keep thinking 12-volts system is cheap. You even require thicker cables which costs more YET e no fit power more appliances.
and Laptops could be power hungry most times especially when used for longer hours.
@mikeayus , are the Solar s in series or Parallel ? If in series, maybe you put in parallel, hopefully your charge controller would enter PWM mode.
Or better still, get a super cheap PWM charge controller of about 10,000 naira or therabout and use that pending when you have bigger battery bank and possibly inverter wey sabi work
He already has a 120amps mppt charger.. Changing to a 24v system wud make the mppt preferable to pwm

oh wow, thanks for your genuine .
Can you please advise me on how best to utilise what I currently have ? i mean what I need to bare in mind to work with the components purchased already? as I dont have budget for a new inverter or additional battery now. Thank you
Then better to just keep them in ur store pending when ur budget can cater for all thats needed. U can ask ur seller if he can swap the 12v inverter to a 24v own with u adding extra money and then save up to get a new battery. Best u also get the same type of battery and not mix. My ogas at the top can add or subtract from this.

Hello guys,
I am a DIY Solar to be and I have bought the following Items for my setup.
1) 2 550W Jinko Solar s (TechLand Solar)
2) 12v 3000w EASun Inverter From a fellow Nairalander
3) 12v 200A Battery Full River From Idyllic Tech.
4) 120A MPPT Charge Controller From Gennex Technologies
Now, I need advise on every other thing I need to get to have my setup up and running (Cables, Change Over, other accessories etc. ).
I would appreciate every tip and learnings from you all. Thanks
You have put the cart before the horse. Now it wud be difficult though not impossible to help u. Its always good to av an idea of the system u want and discuss wit the experts before making purchases. Its not also by where u got ur items from.
My 10cents, adding another battery and changing ur inverter to at least 24v system to start with.

The 750k can power his fridge of he goes for modified sine wave Inveter as 3kv of such is around 70k
Mind you, solar gen is not advisable because many of such generator has inflated capacity and when it get spoilt, that's the end
The way u promoting this modified sine wave... Hope u know its archaic and pure sine waves av taken over. Besides it causes harm to sensitive appliances including freezers so its a no no!

Oh, but it carried it initially. Are u still on a 12v inverter or had to 24v? I'm on a 1050va inverter and the rated power is 730w. It powered the chest freezer of 105w initially but later on started showing the short circuit error.
I tried it on a table top fridge of 55w and it's still showing the short circuit error. What inverter size do you thing I can , to at least power the 55w fridge?
By carrying it initially, was utility on(NEPA or GEN)? I got a 2kva12v inverter. Minimum u sud be looking out for is a 1.5kva or better still 2kva.
Thanks for the response, btw.

Bosses in the house, please I have an issue. I connected my 105w freezer to my 1050v inverter, and I got a message saying "short circuit, please check wiring". Please, what could be the cause of this?
Other appliances like my TV, laptop, lights work normal. The message only shows when I plug the freezer, and then the inverter would go off. If it were an overload issue, it would have shown the overload warning message. This is where I'm getting confused.
Thanks for all your contributions in advance.
Its same thing as overload. Ur inverter cant carry the surge current at startup. Experienced same thing and had to upgrade my inverter to power the freezer.

If fund isn't an issue, I would suggest u get an additional 300watt of same rating and do 3s3p, moreso if it's certain that u won't be upgrading in the future, then 6mm cable is sufficient else 10mm will be fine going into the future of adding additional 300watt x 6s
Thanks sir
