Nice write up, Yet with a very-"nigerianish" feel, filled with high sounding, lung-filling , tongue-tingling (apologies to W.S)words such as intelligence, perseverance, determination etc. But still missing a vital point, Why don't we take action, because we do not have a reason to do so, we lack a "why". Back to the subject matter, Have u Ever wondered how the Boko haram founder was able to influence so many people, he gave them a "WHY", how he was able to get so many young and bright fellows to burn their degree certs and follow him, getting people from different ethnic groups, social classes to believe in His cause. He gave them something they could relate to. No matter how much ion, determination, intelligence, you might have, if you do not have a "Why" , it is all useless. Most Nigerians have not found that "Why",and that is why Nigeria is the way it is, We look towards the Arab spring and most people would say they were ionate, determined, etc and they were fighting for Democracy, i beg to differ , it had less to do with democracy but had all to do with freedom and the right to self fulfillment. P.S ***Mondays are not for thinking and long talk**** |

With pockets heavy from the success of its IPO, it seems FACEBOOK wants to become a hardware maker, Speculation is rife on many tech sites about a FB phone which might be named "BUFFY", seems mark and co have been hiring some ex-apple staff to work on it, and it would not be FB's first try. With instagram and other nice apps the FB-phone might just be the competition that would force Apple, Google's Motorola and Microsoft/Nokia to think twice about Mark and his 900million friends so i would want to ask, would you buy a FB phone ![]() ur wallpaper read "what is on your Mind"personally probably not, but i am optimistic about it, maybe the "Man who brought FB to Nigeria" might be their first customer http://techcrunch.com/2012/05/27/facebook-phone-3 http://thenextweb.com/facebook/2012/05/28/you-might-not-buy-the-facebook-phone-but-your-kids-will-and-thats-what-matters/ |

thanks Bontee, i have found the files and currently analyzing then with some friends and and it was underwhelming, imagine comparing price per kilowatt to price per minute for phone calls, also on that table(myto for the layman doc) they tell us that the price per kwhr when using petrol generators is N22, which is also the same price for MYTO, and if u add the fixed charges, petrol generators become cheaper, why then should consumers use PHCN. Secondly in the whole documents they never explained the reasons for the fixed charges, there was no load assumption as in myto1 and so we have no target for generation, so they might just bill us like crazy wit no increase whatsoever. they have so far not convinced me that they have any credible roap to achieving stable power supply, the only option they have shown is- "WE WOULD INCREASE AND *HOPE* INVESTORS COME" still looking through some of the files though , would update when im done. |

Bontee.thanks for the pics, i have been searching for those for a while, not even the NERC has the boldness to put it on their website. i foresee mass beating of PHCN staff as these insane bills come onstream,How will they determine consumption rate or would they continue using the same Residential area system they have now,why would a Residential 3&4 KWHRz(price) be higher than that of commercial or industrial I am seriously considering turning my house to a factory, if this goes through, what is it with the crazy fixed charge , those guys at NERC must have lost it,so we have gone from having the lowest price to having the highest(in africa) without any increase in Generation .BTW these tariffs to not tally with prices on the much touted MYTO document. for most of us who dont understand the prices, just multiply ur current bill by 2 and then put 22,000 per month fixed charge, then u will get ur new bill, for me that 32k per month for 7 hours of power (1.00 am to 8.00am)vampire time i better use the money to buy a GUN as the bill collection might turn ugly |

A MONTH after his 2009 graduation from Yale Law School, Seun Adebiyi learned he had not one but two lethal blood cancers and began an odyssey to find a bone-marrow donor. Mr. Adebiyi, 28, who came to the US from Nigeria as a child, made appeals through Yale, on radio stations, in a YouTube video and even on a trip to Nigeria to ask law students to volunteer. But finally, his doctor called, saying that a Nigerian woman in the US had donated her baby’s umbilical cord blood to a “cord-blood bank” and that the stem cells in it were a close enough match. After his own marrow — the source of his cancers — was wiped out, those cells were infused into him at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He has been in remission since. Now he is trying to repay that debt, with an effort that experts say may save the lives of both Nigerians and black Americans. In February, he helped start Nigeria’s national bone-marrow registry, the first in Africa outside South Africa. He is now raising money to start a cord-blood bank there. Millions of Nigerians have blood cancers like leukemia or lymphoma, and about 4,000 black Americans die annually of them. Less than 20 per cent of black Americans now find the perfect donor matches that could save their lives, while more than 70 per cent of whites do. Without a registry and cord-blood bank, no Nigerians do. http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=85988: nigerian-graduate-breaks-fresh-grounds-on-cancer-therapy&catid=1:national&Itemid=559 |

with most of the posts here, it would be difficult for the stock market to recover to its past heights, The "new" stock market is going to be a short termed investment , not the long term "own a stock and give it to your kids" investment. so those who would make it in the market would be active investors not ive ones like the poster above(btw go to the NSE website to get those prices). As one of my broker friends would say " in a market you buy and sell i.e trade, you dont buy and store" for a major market recovery, the markets should be made more efficient, faster execution times and lower broker, NSE and CSCS charges, so we could move in and out of stocks easily thereby boosting liquidity. 1 Like |

a lot of reactionary dumbos on the thread, instead of stating ur reasons for ing cremation, ur more interested in calling names. maybe its the gay slant that is tipping u guys overboard. i do not for any reason cremation ,i dont oppose it for those who like it, but saying "Voluntary" cremation for unclaimed corpses sounds like gibberish to me |
![]() |
Its not normal, first its against our religious and cultural beliefs, are we running out of spaces to bury our dead.how 'normal' is it, why dont we import everything else that is 'normal' around the world? e.g gays etc |

i stumbled across this while surfing the net, weird stuff. Cremation may soon become a popular practice in the country as a bill seeking to legalise voluntary cremation of the dead and unclaimed corpses yesterday, scaled the second reading on the floor of the Lagos State House of Assembly. The bill entitled: A bill to legalise voluntary cremation of corpses and unclaimed corpses in Lagos State was sponsored by the chairman of the Assembly's Committee on Health Care Services, Suru Avoseh. The bill is aimed at tackling congestion in public mortuaries. While intimating his colleagues on the need to bill, Avoseh said it addressed the pathetic state of public mortuaries and challenges being faced by health officials due to shortage of land for mass burial of unclaimed corpses. He decried the present situation in which corpses are abandoned in mortuaries for several months, thereby stretching the capacity of the mortuaries to its limits. He said: During our visit to the mortuaries as a member of the adhoc committee, I was disturbed to see heaps of corpses that were not claimed by their relatives. So, Lagos should once again take the lead in the introduction of this legislation in the country. http://nationalmirroronline.net/news/33263.html http://www.punchng.com/news/cremation-bill/ Eko o NI Baje ooo |

nice write up as one who served also in plateau nd spent a lot of time in gombe, bauchi, southern KD, adamawa.i would say ur conclusions are 60% tenable.but the main thrust of the "northern generalization" is that the north sees itself or wants to be seen as a homogeneous zone, there are 3 geo political zones up north, you never here of North west GOV forum, North central Gov forum, etc, unlike the south. its just the northern gov forum. SO if u say there are different tribes and nobody gets to see or hear about them then they "dont exist",no jukun, kataf , idoma, berom, tarok, michika, nupe pressure groups unlike the those of the south. on the religious angle , the discrimination against indigenous northern Xtians is alarming, a visit to Gombe town would almost convince you that its a 90% muslim city , which is not true lets leave the population issue aside, we know how that is done hotbed for violence, the north has been a hot bed since 1956. leave NYSC out of it,have u forgotten the corpers who died in bauchi, i nd some friends were almost killed in nassarawa gwom and bukuru on different occassion, would any sane person risk death just to " Experience the North", so as u can see the problem is not us but YOU- Northerners 1 Like |

@ jmaine : for holy rosary sec school enugu the PTA does no such thing, The arrangement went like this parents give money to students who are then escorted by teachers/matrons to the ekene ,which is near the school, there they board the buses, EKENE is the only transport coy that the students use. The presence of adults(evil strangers) serves to put the drivers in check, |
![]() |
WTF, reckless and totally preventable situation, 1)why would a driver of a bus continue a journey at night in full knowledge of the dangers of doing such 2) when did holy rosary sec sch start chartering buses exclusively for students, that was irresponsible as those young girls would not have had the ability to caution or stop the driver, b4 the students usually boarded Ekedilichukwu buses with other adults not by themselves,i know this because my younger sis is an alumnus of the school and took the same journey countless times, also my cousin would have been on that bus if she not for the fact that she is spending the holidays with her grand parents. culpability on the part of ekenedilichukwu and the SCHOOL in the owners of the school.sue all of them for mind-boggling sums but first trauma treatment for the youngsters who went through the ugly situation. |

A country bedeviled by a military/paramilitary -political complex, a country in which military men see themselves as been above the law, where ex-servicemen control virtually all important sectors of the country.Sometimes i wonder if Nigeria would have been better if the khaki boiz and their cousins had not "intervened" in 1966 and 1983, it would probably have saved us from the civil war and from individuals like Abacha, IBB, and co.Mustapha etc

http://www.punchng.com/feature/life-times/nigeria-would-be-better-if-politicians-undergo-military-training-retired-col-mcben-nwaka/ If a quarter of all our so-called politicians ed through the NDA, Nigeria would be a better place. I’m from Southern Nigeria and most of my friends are from the North. By virtue of our training, if I am walking with you and you fall, it is my duty to look after you, whether dead or alive. And we were expected to carry on this tradition, even after leaving the academy. Once I asked a minister if he could suggest a t training of the police, Customs, Road Safety Corps, Immigration Service and the military for two years to the President, now that the NDA had moved to its permanent site. After two years, everybody could go to their different departments. Some French-speaking countries practise the method and they are likely to carry the esprit de corps even outside the institution and into civil life. Today, if I go to Kano, I don’t look for where to stay. I just have to make a telephone call to my friend, who is a Muslim, and tell him that I’m in town. The same thing happens when he visits my part of the country. Why should I be comfortable while my friend Bako from Kano is in town without a place to stay? No way. I suggested that to the minister and I don’t know whether he did anything about it. So, that was the kind of training we had at the NDA. That time, there was no church or mosque within the premises of the NDA. The same bus would carry Christians and Muslims to town and drop everyone at either the church or mosque and when we have finished, the same bus would take everybody back to the academy. That tells you the kind of training we had in that place. |

Onions and tomato together for Pot(UK), come make stew , now tomato friend dey ask us, should we tell onions say stew done ready or should we pour the stew away? She has to decide if the she wants the baby, its a personal choice, telling the if she can handle the rejection that might follow, nd brace up to be a single mum, then she should keep it if not then the baby could be aborted or giving up for adoption. |

Man who killed wife in hotel room arrested by police Photo: Sun News Publishing More Stories on This Section The long arm of the law has finally caught up with Mohammed Jibrilu, who allegedly killed his wife in a hotel room in Tafa town, Niger State and disappeared. The deceased, Hadiza, was allegedly murdered on May 19, 2011. The suspect was said to have strangulated his wife to death after he had lured her from her father’s house in Ganma town, near Ilorin, the Kwara State capital. A police sources revealed to Daily Sun how Jemilu was apprehended at the premises of a commercial bank, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), after he had been on the run for about five months. He was immediately driven to Minna by homicide detectives where they started interrogating him about the death of the graduate of Sociology, from the University of Abuja. The police sources further revealed how the suspect initially denied committing the crime, adding that when he was confronted with some documents, which included, call logs from one of the service providers, he owned up to the crime. The record showed telephone calls he reportedly made before and after the death of his wife. He confessed committing the crime but said the incident ‘was a mistake’, the source said. http://www.sunnewsonline.com/webpages/features/crimewatch/2011/oct/27/crimewatch-27-10-2011-002.html |
