For emphasis sake, learn data structures and algorithms. It is very important you understand it... but you may skip it if you are fine with being a mediocre/average programmer.

Know exactly what you will like to do first. Do you want to be a web programmer, desktop applications programmer or mobile?

Here's an unpopular advice:

1. Master algorithms and data structures first. (Know your sorting and search algorithms very well. It will help you in programming for large data sets)
2. Learn basics about database(SQL) and networking. (In most cases, you will need to bind your program module with databases)
3. Learn general programming with perhaps python.
4. Advanced python with datascience or machine learning

The dollars will definately flow in albeit at the expense of the countries that will import the mostly white products for as long as they are traded in dollars to hedge against currency volatility. Also, industrialisation will spring up rapidly like in the 60s because of the availability of raw materials from the petrochemical sector, which will decrease and could stop importation of these basic items. You can imagine that we import something as basic as linear alkyl benzene, one of the key ingredients used in the manufacture of detergent...that's if we dont even import the whole detergent. I can't even begin to mention the strategic AKK pipelines, LPG plants, modular refineries, natural gas plants, power generation projects etc that will soon come on stream.

The bottom line is that the key positive trade balance drivers are gradually falling into place. All we need is a good fiscal regime and/or monetry policies to the potential for industralization.

The commissioning of Dangote refinery will mark the begining of the strengthening of the naira. I can't wait!

I resigned from one of the big 4s some years back because of the thick cloud of toxic ambience that always saturated the office. Well, maybe I felt that way because I was not well suited for that kind of environment as I am an introvert or perhaps I just didn't like the job since it was the complete opposite of what I studied at school... but then, more than half of the staff there were always frustrated so there is a high chance that it was not a problem from me. Spent a year at home studying and upgrading then got an overseas scholarship, came back, spent 6 months at home before getting three job offers. The one I eventually took pays twice as much as what my colleagues that remained currently earn who are perhaps senior associates at best now, but a few got offers elsewhere and are doing fatastically well so the equation is balanced.

I might not have the exact answer for you but there is definately a complex mix of variables you might need to carefully consider first before pushing the stop botton. But notwithstanding, understand that there is more to life than just earning salary. If you are on a job that you never look forward to going to the next day, then it could be a sign that it is time to leave. Consider your peace of mind and mental health.
