Hi all,

I am a label (digital) manager, just started a few months ago.
The function entails managing everything that involves the labels of the record company.
Let me give some examples: license request, negotiating, place orders, direct with stakeholders, digital and physical distribution, research among others.

cry cry cry cry cry My heart is crying big time for Lucky Dube. I still cannot believe it when I heard it a few days ago and almost slapped the messenger (which is my cousin) for telling me so nonchalantly.

I one of my first reggea shows,I attended gave me chills was Lucky Dube in 1996. He was an inspirator and still is with his lyrics and gospel and concious reggea style. He will live on forever! May God comfort and carry his children through this very difficult time as well as the rest of his family.
The people that killed him in cold blood will never have any peace in life!

I still cannot believe it that we live in such a cruel world.
Lucky Dube may your soul rest in perfect peace cry
chichimma(f): 1:24am On Oct 17, 2007
Yeah, that is my logic nobody is illegal but people can carry out illegal activities!

We live in a white man's world where everything is controlled and everything is labeled.
Do you know what the word does to people without papers? It minimize and limit one's abillities because of that stamp or that word that now takes over their ways of life.  Just a week ago, A Ghanianan jumped from 9th floor and died because police were doing there usual "illegal immigrants hunt" control in flats. cry May his soul rest in perfect peace! Believe me he is not the first and will certainly not be the last unfortunately!

The Dutch, Americans, British government are all aware of the many thousands of people that live in their country without any papers but you hardly hear that in America or Britain they are doing house search or crashing social gatherings, checking who is "illegal" or not? No they check if someone commited a crime or any illegal activity. Over here they hunt people without papers, in particular Africans it is absurd and getting out of hand in this country, which for me seems to look like something that happened during the time of the Jews in the Netherlands. That time it was justified by the majority of the masses and now they all condemn it. It seems if they crash social gatherings to deport as many "illegal immigrants" not much have been learned of those historical years in the Netherlands.
chichimma(f): 1:05am On Oct 17, 2007
I am not an expert but I think that they are actually the same only different subgenres.
But they all fall in the category of Dance music, a little more specific you can call it House music.
It can even have elements of African beats and rhythms.

Well, I guess it is not a thing for Nigerians. Naija might never be ready for electronics music.
I know a few Nigerians that like it however the majority are white people that are into it.
Funny to say many black people as producers and/or djs are in these scene that are making it big time in the Europe and the US with the dance music.

@ VOR & Vicjustice

You do not have to agree with me! No probs, I do not agree with you either.
Thank God for the Dutch parties that do see it from my perspective.
The Dutch law has concluded long time that there were not going to hunt people with no papers.( I hate that word illegal to me there is no such thing as illegal people). This means that they will not go to social gatherings to ask for identification when they are quite aware that there will be people without papers.

My anger is not of the fact that they were looking for criminals but that they used that as a coverup or better said disguise to hunt Africans without papers. I cannot give you the provision but I suggest you google it and you will definitely find something about this agreement that was made in Amsterdam.
chichimma(f): 12:43pm On Sep 25, 2007
@VOR

My point here is that in the Netherlands, the law does not allow police or authorities to go to social gatherings to control people for papers. They can control on the streets, houses but not social gatherings. This raid to me is similar to a razzia (during the 2nd world war with Jews). The Dutch of all people should know that is inhuman these kind of activities to go to social events to pick out those that do not have papers. If they commited a crime fair enough , go ahead but they just did not have papers. They did not even have any suspects they just went on it randomly and arrested those without papers, they now became the suspects.

initially they came there to catch the 419ers, so why go after people that are just coming to watch/enjoy a show. Who told you that people with papers are not doing any 419 but all of them could just after showing their IDs. The police was wrong even if the people do not have papers they are still human beings and have rights. Before you know it they will continue with churches, say dey look for 419 scammers, nonsense!!!!!!

@ Vicjustice

Arresting Osuofia does not mean that the audience is innocent but that the Dutch police came for purposes to humiliate and disgrace the West African people and ofcourse put an end to the entertainment. The charter to fly people back home was ready to move on that day.

Two people out of the hundred and something were actually fraudsters and the others were wrongly prosecuted, humiliated and even send home just because they did not have papers. Just because they wanted to have some fun and went to a show. A hundred and something people against two is not worth it . The major of Amsterdam could not even say if they were hard criminals (the brain behind the 419 scams or just petty ones). I guess that the 419rs are laughing their teeth out.

Like I mentioned before my aunt went to the show, she has nothing to do with 419 and so were many other people. Just because Osoufia chants and makes noise about 419 it does not mean that he is one. How many actors/ comedians make jokes or films about certain sensitive or illegal things. The Dutch police went out of line and use the criminal law to get as much Africans without papers. Thank God it is not only me that is/was upset with this entire thing but other political parties as well.

I think the Dutch police will be happy with people like you ( Vicjustice) on their side however when they start going after churches to arrest scammers and you or a friend/relative of yours are there and have nothing to do with 419 will not be left out. Especially if you do not have papers do not be angry if they arrest you and them and fly off with the victory of catching one or two petty scammers.

@ Chillbabe

I could not resist to reply although I said I am not going to do so but then again this message is for you.

There is something I want you to understand about many Nigerians living in and outside of Nigeria.
They life hating everything about themselves they have stooped so low that they cannot see simply that they have rights like other people have in this world. These things are caused by their upbringing mostly mental, physical abuse and no expression of love, principals, norms and values communicated properly to them. So, I am not surprised that there are Nigerians that will respond so negative and see this act as something funny and no big deal.
I actually pity people like that, I had a girlfriend also from Nigeria and she hated everything concerning Nigeria. She would not talk to Nigerians, she would tell people that she is from Jamaica and at one point trying to put me down. I pitied her and decided that we have to go our seperate ways before she would influence me ( which is impossible) with her negativity and selfhatred attitude that will not take her far in this world. Because first of all we are human beings before being from any country.

We should stop judging people by where they are from. The entire thing is messed up without a solid foundation in life things might collapse in front of you. In the case of these Nigerians lack the basic and love from home only can express negativity and selfhatred. ( I am not psycologist but who needs to be to see what lies behind selfhatred and constant negativity and pessimism)

So, my sister do not trouble yourself by explaining and trying to change their minds it will take years of psychotherapy. It is time consumming, many of us have giving good points and arguments to condemn this act. If one cannnot see it one cannot. I am happy that we have a sister like you that is ready to speak up your mind and stand up for us. wink cheesy

I guess people back home do not listen or know techno, minimal or electro house music.

I like Sophie Ellis Bextor but I do not really put her in the category of Techno, Minimal and/or Electro music.
Her genre is more Dance. In addition, Basement Jaxx has some tracks that can relate to these genre.

What do you think about the Chemical Brothers? This is not really techno or minimal but more of Breakbeats.
I like those guys tunes.
chichimma(f): 11:04pm On Aug 06, 2007
I was just wondering if there are any Nairaland s that know or like : Techno, Minimal or Electro house music?

If so can you tell me something about your experience with these genre of music.

I am really curious about this outcome grin.

@ kaecy and sweetchick

I do not have much time for people like mohadana they are too ignorant to understand simple issues. I replied him once to let him see the real issue on what is going on and his reply is nothing more than '419 kwenu'. People like that cannot read between the lines but are coming from a very stereotyped upbringing. They always look for a scapegoat to uplift themselves to feel a little bit better. It is a loss case such a person cannot change and think outside of the box. It is a pity for such people but then again I cannot focus on such people because like I mentioned they are too ignorant.

It is better to deal with an illitrate than with an ignorant person because the illitrate is always willing to learn but an ignorant person because they do not want to know!
chichimma(f): 4:02pm On Aug 01, 2007
hahaha cheesy, good talk Romeo and Superman!

I am off from this topic there are too many self hatred and negative Nigerians here! It is a loss case to brainwash mentality.

Before I go off I have some things to say to these narrowminded and stereotype thinkers:

All Nigerians are fraudsters, All Arabs are terrorists, All Nigerian women abroad are prostitutes, All Whites are good, All Blacks are bad. Therefore anything that happens to the mentioned groups above is "all" deserved !

Keep on thinking this way and it will uplift your personality and life with nothing more than emptiness, unbelonging and so much hate for anything that looks a little like yourself!
chichimma(f): 2:05am On Jul 31, 2007
Unbelieve how some people here are very narrowminded to insist that it is not a big deal what happend in Amsterdam,
while even the major and Dutch political parties have condemned it. In addition, organizations that stand up for black peoples right were involved in the case. The only thing that a lot of Nigerians on this forum can do is yab and laugh about. Shameful and disgusting.

Can you see the self hate that Nigerians are living with. One of the reasons that we cannot grow and stand up as a strong nation.
The envy and hatred for our own kind is so visible and strong that even when others are wrong we will still point the finger to ourselves just because we are Nigerians.

It is shamefull and a heart breaking thing but I am happy that there are still a few here that reason and stand up for their human rights as human beings first and second as Nigerians. Not as second class citizens living as slaves as Egoldman nicely put it.

@ babeelove, Millitia and so many of you that think the raid was justified
I hope one day you will witness something similar like this police injustice just because you are a Nigerian and laugh about it! Whereby they will manhandle you just because you went to a show, walked on a street or in your house. Disgrace you in front of your fellow Africans and people to see, handcuff in you nice and stylish wears just because you are an African and (maybe) did not carry your documents with you because that happened to my aunty and so many others . The majority of the people that were arrested were woman about 67 %.
chichimma(f): 2:49pm On Jul 30, 2007
People here are finding it very funny and amusing,  it is unbelieveable how a lot of Nigerians think about themselves and others.
It is a pity that we feel that is normal to be treated like shit because we are Nigerians and our country is a mess!
It is a pity how we just make fun out of every thing that concerns Nigeria or Nigerians.
This raid was condemned by many people in the Netherlands as well as several Dutch Parties.  Thank God that they freed the majority of people.

It is quite clear how I think about these kind of injustice.  If police comes towards me to ask me for my papers or disturbs a party where I am , before I go on my knees, I will ask them a simple question and that is why even if I am the host or not. I guess America is quite different whereby everything is about terrorism and they can get away with shooting someone if they do not cooperate by using the word terrorism constantly. As for Holland everyone has a right even people without papers have right only they dont know it and the police takes advantage of that.

I do not want to be wasting my time on clarifying things of this matter. It is clear that most Nigerians enjoy this kind of thing and see it just as a good laugh. My aunty was at that show and was humiliated to the core just because she wanted to see Osufia.  Most of us know that the police wanted to kill three birds with one stone by canceling the show, arrest as many illegals as possible and pick up 419 scammers. Unfortunately, they only got two scammers out of the 111 people they arrested that time. The Amsterdam major did not back the police raid on national TV  by saying that he did not give them approval or go ahead and that he was not informed ( (we  Nigerians in Holland all know that it is a lie)  The issue here is that he did not know that there will be so much hype about it so he had to say something to help himself.

When I read all the comments I really felt bad this times makes me really envy Arabs and there sense of unity. We Nigerians we do not even know what that is. People back home use to say to me that we that are living abroad are the future of Nigeria. We  can do something better one day that is why we need to work hard and study to eventually add some value to the country and people.  Well reading most of these comments today I guess we failed  cry  It is shocking.  I believe that everyone is entitled of its own opinion but come one how ignorant can one be to say that it was a normal thing after reading all the facts just because of our bad image or a few rotten apples in the community. Does it mean we are all doomed just because we are from Nigeria and take every insults?  Have we already lost our sense of what is good and bad just because we are Nigerians? I refuse to accept that!

Check out one of this links at nairaland about the same issue:
