U can do dat to b on d safe syd. Jus empty out d old oil and fill with fresh one and make sure not to overfill dis tym around else U'll flood d carburator with engine oil and ur gen will have to start burning d oil leading to smoking.. Na my little experience from gen usage I jus share with U..

Oh dats y... I'm sure it's also smoking wen U put it on.. There's a guage on d oil cap. D oil isn't supposed to b pouring out meaning U overfilled it. U'll have to reduce d oil u poured. Look on d oil cap, there's a guage on d inside. D first sign ur oil is due for change is if it's black. U were supposed to empty d previous oil before filling in d new one

First things first, are u asking to change oil becos it is due for servicing or u want to change oil becos of d sound? If d sound of d gen has changed den U need to take it in for servicing (carburator and plug cleansing and den oil change). If d gen shorts oil(burns up d oil) den U also need to take it in for servicing. So long as d sound has been affected I'll advice u take it in for servicing except U know how to dismantle and reassemble ur gen

alright no prob, but it seems like I over poured it oil cos when I open the oil cap I get sort of black oil (but not so black like that) coming out
