I am looking for people who have experienced this, or have an idea on how to solve this issue.

My lexus RX330 2005 drives very fine. It doesn't throw up any error code as regards to it's drivability. Currently, the only error codes it is throwing up is 0430 and 0420 code "catalyst system inefficiency below threshold bank 1 and bank 2". I know it has to do with the China catalysts I installed in the bank 1 and 2 port as I don't have money for the original direct tokumbo ones. Mine was stolen.

Back to the subject, at every cold start up, mostly in the morning, when I put it in reverse, it moves fast and quickly as it should, but when I put it in drive, the car only revs as you pedal it but doesn't move, it will look as if it is in park or neutral. It doesn't move, it only revs and revs, then after about 8-10mins of the car idling and steaming (the car has become warm) then you pedal it, it will gradually and hesitantly start moving slowly and then pick up within some seconds and drive very fine all throughout the day. The gear selects very fine. This situation only happens when the car is cold (like 7-8hrs of parking). If it is warm, it doesn't happen. Me and my mechanic has inspected the selenoids in the gear body valve, inspected the gear shift sensor, the gear speed sensor, the 13 pins, all are okay. The right gear oil is what I use and it is gauged.

I have exhausted my research, me and my mechanic has run out of ideas, the mechanic is advising me to get a direct tokumbo japan 13pin gearbox and replace it, that the problem is from the gearbox drive fiber, that the gear is also old, since it is 2005; That if I don't change the gear, it will affect my engine. My engine is barely a month old (direct Japan tokumbo 3MZ). I just changed it after a failed oil pump destroyed the old one.

This gear box is very expensive, I can't afford it now and I don't want to jeopardise my 'new' japan tokumbo engine. Anyone have similar experience or have an idea of solving this problem?

Sorry for the long write up, I needed to detail this situation. Thanks for your expected input.


Your problem may stem from the Chinese cat you installed. Start by taking it out. It may have blocked the exhaust.

Also, get a more competent mechanic with capacity for scan & data stream. He may be able to ascertain the issues from running a live data.

What is your reason for wanting to add a liter of engine oil if your engine isn't burning oil?

Your vehicle should not use any oil other than fully synthetic 5w20 or 5w30 whichever is recommended. This spec of engine oil is readily available but ensure to buy from a reliable dealer.

It is also better you pay closer attention to vehicle mentainance than just hand your vehicle over to a mechanic who doesn't understand what you went through buying the car or how you raised the funds. Buy your fluids yourself & stay with them to replace your engine oil.

The cost of another engine would be a serious setback so create time for it.

Very correct, there is a temperature range for gauging the oil level,set the oil level when the fluid is too cold and you have excess fluid in the system when it gets hot, then set the fluid level when it is too hot and ou have low fluid in the system, both extremes spells doom for the transmission. Lexus said that the oil is lifetime grin grin grin i will service the transmission again at 90k miles

Lexus recommends tranny fluid replacement at 30,000 miles with the WS fluid. 90k miles is a long time. It might take you the next 6 -7 years to attain 90k miles.

Furthermore, it's a waste of money to replace your engine oil every 3 months, except you are using conventional engine oil. I think your vehicle recommended OCI is between 7,500 -10,000 miles/1 year or whichever comes first. However, this recommendation is for synthetic oil.

Also note that your vehicle is equipped with oil minder light that illuminates upon attaining the required Oil Change Interval (OCI).

@Trygo, this a great adventure. It will challenge those who think its impossible to rebuild engines & encourage them to take a leap towards this route. Your one year warranty on such rebuilds will further allay fears & take care of after sales .

I believe the shipping companies can nip this in the bud if they are truly committed to it considering the numerous complaints & claims from importers.

I still wonder why foreign companies have different modus operandi in Nigeria. Just one complaint from a customer in their home country is enough to elicit investigations with the aim of arresting the culprits & of course end it but unfortunately, the same system can’t be implemented in Nigeria.

Also, if the shipping lines force the drivers to pay these claims or distribute the among them or suspend those who work on specific days during which items were missing, this nonsense will stop.

But sincerely, morals & values have since eluded this country as people can do whatever gives them money regardless of amount of money involved.

Sad.

This is also not correct. When a car is well maintained, resale value is retained regardless of mileage. When I sell my personally used cars, they don’t come cheap. I sold my 2004 sienna of over 200,000 miles 1.5 after 5 years of use. They buyer practically begged me at that price. It was much better than most of the Toks being sold in the market.

For ur information, I use OEM parts & never replaced parts twice. So when selling, I factor in the state of the car.

I completely disagree with u on the mileage & price valuation of the car.

Maintenance is more important than the mileage. If the car is properly maintained & at that mileage, it’s a good buy rather than buy a severely damaged car with low mileage. Maintenance is key & I have owned cars that clocked 300,000 miles before I sold them & the owners are still enjoying them.

At 1.6M for 2008/2009 Camry, the dealer must have stolen the car & probably didn’t pay duty. It appears dealers just pick these cars in the USA for free in other to sell at your quoted price.

Let’s be fair, realistic & objective in our analyses so that people are fed with the right information.

How many Nigerians can afford a clean tittle car of less than 100,000 miles? I will advice op to run a vin check & if car had a decent maintenance record, pls by all means, go ahead & pay.

This is why some unscrupulous dealers will alter the mileage & sell to unsuspecting buyers at outrageous prices.

there are 2 oil types you can use for 2ar 0w-20 or 5w-20.

Read your manual properly. The 5w20 is a temporal oil where 0w20 is unavailable at due OCI but must be replaced with 0w20 at the next OCI.

So, it’s only a temporal measure but again, it’s your car & engine; do unto it what you like.

It is quite conflicting you know, 0w-20 is written on the engine cap,while on the manual that came with the car 5w-30 was stated as the appropriate oil for this particular engine.

I was using 0w-40 initially because I couldn't lay my hands on 0w-20.


There’s no conflict. You obviously have the wrong manual. Apparently, the oil filler cap on ur engine is been changed.

Even the predecessor engine 2az uses 5w20. So search for 0w20. It’s available

Engine type is 2.5L 4-cylinder 2AR-FE engine...I actually switched from the 0w-40 to the recommended 5w-30 oil type.

But the main culprit like I said earlier and upon inspection was using a wrong oil filter which was found to be disintegrated thereby causing a blockage leading to loss of oil pressure.

I doubt he's ready to buy a car yet. Any advise will be dependent on what he wants. You need to ask him what kind of car he wants & would be comfortable to drive in the long run.

I think he should sit & figure out what kind of car he desires. Research is very important in this regard. No amount of advice will be sufficient for him at the moment until he knows the difference between a manual & automatic car & their functionalities thereof.

That said, the 0w20 that worked for your car, can it work for a Range Rover or a BMW? I once challenged Eterna oil on their 5w20 castrol professionel. That oil is an api sl and anyone looking for castrol will think that it was the current oil. There's a Mobil 1 that is in the market and they wrote suitable for hondas, Toyota. There's Glife in the market and the oil says that it is suitable for compact cars and I see people buying it for their v8 Lexus. Is a v8 engine a compact car? He also claimed that apqi logo is on their oil can but I can't find it on the can. Let him show us reviews from the Americans and we will then believe him. That many garages uses the product does not mean that it is suitable for use. Did we not buy rymco oil before? Oil that dries up, is that one oyel?

Statistically, it's not proper to just condemn an oil by hearsay and some online review which may be sponsored by rival companies in the industry. In saner climes, oil analyses would be used to determine the quality of the product & it's overall suitability.

Unfortunately, in Nigeria quality control & assurance do not exist and the agencies of government charged with these responsibilities are filled with incompetent & nepotic individuals who barely know what the job entails.

The application of use in Range Rover, BMW and/or any of the V8 engines will be a determinat of the manufacturer's decision based on a combination of factors including design type & specifications. Therefore, if a manufacturer recommends 5w30 as the oil spec, the onus lies on the s to determine the quality of 5w30 oil to use within the confines of the apqi specifications.

Having said the above, there's an obligation on the part of the seller to convince the buying public on the quality of its products.

Indeed, I used this spec of engine oil for the last service of my car & sincerely, my engine runs smooth, quiet & I have got better mpg so far compared with what I got in the past.

Can we have the data sheet? I have read good USA reviews of this particular spec. There are also established workshops in Nigeria who have used Duramax for years & have attested to it's quality provided the source is genuine.

Please what is the current price of the Sienna and which version is more preferred comparing LE, XLE, and XLE limited.

The 2004 Toyota Sienna XLE Limited is a good option with leather seat, 6 loader CD player, rear DVD infotainment etc. You may not bother with the one that has reverse camera as your dad might have no need for it.

The AWD version offers better traction on wet roads & difficult terrains but with reduced mpg. While the FWD offers a slightly better mpg and has a poor handling especially when taking corners.

With a budget of 2.5 to 3M Naira, you should get a decent salvage with little of no damage.

A friend of mine sold a 2012 Corolla south Africa spec which was brought from Germaine motor which the compressor has been converted to manual compressor and seriously the ac cools like winter even when it's sunny I don't turn it on max 2 most times 1 the only difference I see is that the sound of the engine is not a quiet as the other Corolla with the original compressor....... and his there any effect it can cause on my engine but the car sounds fine and moves great @gazzuz

My fear is a weakened engine over time with an increased fuel consumption.
