Thewrath: Not folding but listening. It shows democracy is live and active in Nigeria. The tax is good, and everyone from North to south is in . Only issue is the VAT which is being refactored, so everyone is satisfied and happy. Also, we need a strong fiscal policy to reduce inflation and increase gov revenue, which all 3 tiers of government will be beneficiaries of, as the bill gets ed. 1 Like |

Nice speech by President Tinubu. He is gradually warming up. He tends to start slowly but once he gets hot, Nigerians will begin to see crazy impacts across the nation, from north to south, east to west.

I do agree with Senator on this point. The Abuja to Kaduna train is a lifeline to most commuters that are unwilling to ply the journey by road. You don’t want to share a train with thugs and riffraffs, compromising the safety you initially thought you were gonna get by leaving the roads to kidnappers. I also welcome President Tinubu’s kind gesture of trying to ameliorate the sufferings of Nigerians. The solution to this in the future is to provide a first class train that isn’t free to common man. These trains will leave at certain times of the Yuletide duration and engers will have to pay . They get nice drinks, food, entertainment, etc. If you like Senator, you don’t want to board with riffraffs, you will pay for first class train. If you are struggling, you board the free trains. |

festacman: Tax reform should be your number one priority if you want to attract businesses and investors. Imagine an Alaba international trader that’s bringing his goods from China, and under the current system will pay multiple taxation and bribes…. Not good for business. If he has to pay two taxes, let it be clear! One to customs, and one to FIRs if he makes profit. Also, another area of the tax reform is where foreign companies can easily employ Nigerian youths in Nigeria without asking those foreign companies to have branches in Nigeria. If you an IT guy in Calabar, Vodafone in SA or UK can employ you, pay you good wages, without you even leaving your house. You could have multiply call centres coming to Nigeria instead of going to India or Kenya. 1 Like |

I don’t think northerners are against the bill, they just thinking, “why are these southerners so generous to our plight?” Haha. What’s the catch? Jokes aside, I think it’s a good bill. We need to generate more money through taxation because our oil money is dwindling. We have infrastructures that need fixing. We need bigger budgets for our security outfits. How can Kenya and SA with smaller population have a budget bigger than ours? Taxation is also a reasonable way to keep inflation in check, because you can’t raise interest rates continuously forever. |

The tax reform bill makes sense. Harmonise it, make it easier to pay, and you boost gov revenue. Also, the tax reform bill is a signal to foreign investors that Nigeria is serious. The tax also allows Nigerians to be employed by foreign companies without them leaving Nigeria, which will boost employment. Foreign companies won’t be mandated to set up branches in Nigeria before the can employ Nigerians, which is good news. Let them it ASAP and let the tax reforms begin. If Tinubu’s gov can end multiple taxes on businesses and streamline it into single stress free payment, his istration could be up to something glorious. 4 Likes |

SmartPolician: I think the turnaround maintenance carried out was a total engine replacement. Using your analogy, it’s like replacing all the engines and electrical components of an old car with brand new components. Will they find a willing buyer? Yes if there is access to crude. |

It does make sense to collapse the project… Ecowas, now go build a high speed railway line at a cheaper cost. Faster, greener, safer and easier to maintain. Lagos to Abidjan can be done in 6-8 hours. |

TenQ: You don’t need equipment to write profound peer-reviewed papers. You don’t need tools to write cutting edge papers in areas of studies like Maths, Social sciences, Computer Sciences, etc. Maybe if they stop chasing younger women and start focusing on research, they would start becoming productive. All they know is strike! Lazy bunches most of them, always looking for excuses not to work. 2 Likes 1 Share |

But Nigerian professors are not as productive as their highly paid counterparts. Nigerian professors neither do ground breaking research nor publish peer-reviewed papers in large numbers. When you are looking for scholarly articles, you will sometimes find Nigerian authored papers but would notice that they are based in overseas universities. Professor should work with government to get rid of sex for grades, cultism, exam malpractices, etc before asking for more money. Plus you lots like to strike, which doesn’t help anyone!! 2 Likes 1 Share |

I have always thought a railway line would have been ideal. It’s cheaper, greener, faster, easier to manage and maintain, and we won’t need to damage our pristine coastline, thus enabling tourism. Imagine travelling between Calabar to Lagos in less than 6 hours by high speed rail? You could literally decongest Lagos because people can live in Ogun, Ondo, Delta, and still work in Lagos because of high speed rail. We need leaders with big imagination and foresight!! |

This is highly impressive. What the FG can do to help stabilise food pricing aside from providing security to farmers is to provide cold all-year storage across each state. The FG should deduct some of the money from the State and LG FAAC s as they did for meter procurement. This would mean harvested crops that are in excess can be stored all year, and farmers can plan, and make more money. Cold storage can be powered by solar and licenced to private companies that would run and operate the facilities. Nigerians will also eat food all year round, making them have more varied and balanced diet. No need to wait for corn season before I eat corn. 2 Likes |

What the Lagos state government should do to end this menace is to start issuing licences to all beer parlours, pubs, eateries or any store that sell food. Part of the licensing condition is to mandate they all have a functioning toilet, that is clean and useable all the time with soap and water. They also have installed CCTV, and food handling cert. Lagos gov will use the renewable licences issued to generate more revenue, ensure citizens can use toilets, and also enhance food safety across the state. The CCTV recording will also ensure the safety of customers. So in summary, if you want to open any non-mobile food service in Lagos, you must have a working toilet, a food handling cert, CCTV around your premises, and if you will be serving alcohol in the premises, tight private security, which all come with licences. Wholesale alcohol sales will be exempt. Only retail. Part of the conditions are; no sale to those under 18, no sale to drunk and disorderly, and security must be maintained at all times. Only licensed taxis can be called to pick drunk/vulnerable engers home, and they must have CCTV in their taxis. |

They should improve on sanitation and drainage. By now, we should have proper recycling facilities in Lagos. Waste that can't be recycled should be incinerated and used to generate power. Also, scrap all danfos and replace them with modern electric buses. If I own Danfo, Lagos State should scrap my old Danfo for a modern electric bus. At the end of each day, 20% of my revenue is used to pay back the loan, while I keep 80%. The charging spots where the Danfos will be charged overnight should be fun by LAMATA, using solar. Also, only a specific number of Danfos under this new scheme should be able to operate within Lagos to reduce congestion. Buses should also be fitted with cameras and trackers for the safety of engers. If there are 5000 issued Danfo licenses, the 5001st applicant will be in a queue until 1 out of the 5000 licenses vacates his licence. No bus driver in Lagos should be allowed to just wake up, buy a bus, paint it yellow and start picking up engers just like that without proper licence, bus, and insurance. It should also be extended to taxis and Uber. It will reduce chaos. All vehicles used for enger pick-ups should mandatorily be fitted with trackers LAMATA can track 24/7, and with forward and backward facing cameras. |

Originalsly: You are very correct. The effrontery of Amosun to tell FG to seek a diplomatic resolution when it was through his recklessness that all this mess happened is madness!! He should be arrested and probed. All his assets that he can't legitimately for should be seized and used to pay the debt. Also, Ogun’s FAAC revenue should be deducted installmentally and be used to pay the outstanding debts. Should be lesson to all state governors to tidy up their finances. Also, at the end of every tenure of each governor, their state finances should be audited by both EFCC and an independent auditing firm, to check for any infractions. 2 Likes |

We all can see the merits of CCTVs? Imagine all shops, schools, houses, hospitals, universities, gov buildings, etc have CCTV, we will at least know who the criminals are in most cases, and apprehend them. It’s also an evidence based technology, so no more rumours, falsehoods and guesswork. I’m happy the man and his children are safe due to quick thinking!! |

CodeTemplar: You are correct. If FG wants to remove subsidy without making noise, at least meter all the unmetered customers before exiting. Disco’s revenue will probably triple what they are earning now if metering gaps closes significantly. Metering all customers will; A) Provide much needed liquidity to fulfil their obligations. B) Provide timely acquisition of liquidity. No need to chase up customers for outstanding debts. C) Bring more Gencos into the market locally and overseas. D) Enable Discos improve their infrastructures; making it more modern, reliable with bigger capacity. Also, FG should help TCN improve its transmission capacity to wheel more MW ( in upwards of 20,000 MW), make it more robust to eliminate grip collapse, and then privatise TCN to recoup their money. If NBet is completely eradicated, I still foresee a situation where DIscos will either create an umbrella association that bulk buys from Gencos or private electricity bulk-buying companies entering the market. You need electricity bulk buyers because Hydro Gencos cost less to generate eclectricity/watt than Gas-powered plant. Discos will obviously want to patronise Mainstream energy more than Egbin power. In the short term, this policy should help Hydro powered plants more; Kainji, Dandinkowa, Shiroro, Zungeru and Jebba operators will be increasing their capacity. We will also see new Gencos bringing solar and wind generating capacity into the market, but being that gas is still the bulk of our generating capacity, we will see less investment going into it. What the government should do in addition to metering all customers and improving TCN’s capacity is to approve private bulk buyers, who will liaise between Gencos and Discos for better deals. If I have a solar farm that generates 10MW in Lagos, the private buyers can negotiate between me, TCN and Ikeja Disco or Ikeja Disco and TCN deal directly with me. Any kind of market fluidity should be welcomed to create competition and lower cost. We can also have a situation where a privatised TCN pays Gencos all the electricity they wheel, and invoice Discos at point of delivery. 1 Like |

Female doctors to me are the best if you want to be with an intelligent woman. They only go for intelligent men, and there aren’t many around. I see no problem dating them. I prefer them to ordinary 9ja women. Intelligent women shouldn’t frighten an intelligent man. You will both compliment each other to form a badass partnership. 5 Likes 2 Shares |

Great intervention by the FG, and yes, FG should intervene. Football is globally viewed, and always a nice way for countries to showcase their countries to prospective tourists and investors worldwide. Nigeria cannot afford not to qualify for a World Cup being held in USA for a consecutive event. The current Super Eagles team is very talented, so let’s get them a world class coach, who can bring his assistants, give him free reign, and get our boys to qualify and even win the World Cup. Kudos to FG. Now get Super Eagles a top class coach! The cost of hiring a good coach who can qualify us to for the World Cup, win Afcon and maybe even win the World Cup is less than the benefits in of image boost, investment and tourism. 1 Like |

Judolisco: Our installed capacity is 14,000 MW. We don’t need someone to rule for 20 years. That would be a disaster!!! Our available generation capacity is 7,600, that’s say about half our installed capacity. So we don’t need new plants. Some of our installed capacity can be increased with new turbines to boost capacity. Egbin power plant has an installed capacity of 1,320 MW but only produces 400-700 MW on average daily. 1 Like |

Afrikaans, if you want to retake SA again, please go ahead!! Do what you like, as no one cares anymore these days. African unity is a myth. The essence of this beauty pageant is to celebrate African beauty. This woman was born in country and lived there her entire life, yet can’t be given full citizen. Why do we castigate Europeans for during something we are just as guilty as? I met a white South African one time in Europe, he complained he left SA years ago because the country is going downhill. He said crime rate has gone up, power grid is collapsing etc. I dismissed it, thinking it’s a racist gibe against the black government in power. Actually, thinking back, he was right. The only reason that country isn’t a complete shit hole is because of the few whites left, still making it stand. It’s few inches away from becoming another Zimbabwe. 5 Likes |

I keep hating this country called South Africa more and more. It’s not a good country!! I hope Nigerians living there come home or go elsewhere. It’s also a challenge to Nigerian gov to develop Nigeria and make it an envy of the world. My hatred started when they were killing fellow Africans, which I consider abhorrent, considering what they went through during apartheid. This issue is non-issue because she is more South African than Nigeria. She was born in Soweto and lived there her entire life. If it were a reverse, I don’t think Nigerians would have minded, because there are Nigerians with all sorts of ancestries. Also, see how the President of SA snubbed President Tinubu. Stupid rude society! 2 Likes 1 Share |

If President Tinubu is really serious and genuine about moving this country forward, he should sack this minister. He is incompetent and clueless. Under President Buhari, we hit 5,800 MW in March 2021. How can you still keep a minister who is saying by December 2024, we will reach 6000MW? So 18 months under President Tinubu’s istration, we will only be adding a mere 500 MW, give or take. We got World bank loan for mass metering, and it’s yet to start. $500 million should get approx 3.5-4 million customers free meters. He said on TV when he got the job that it took him 6 months to know the problem, which showed lack of qualification and unpreparedness. By December, I think we should be at 7000 MW. If you also count the under of times grid failures have happened under his tenure, you would notice he is incompetent. |

Once we start investing in sports, we will start winning Olympic medals. Firstly, every 2 years, we should have a national games competition, like Nigeria’s mini olympics, where all the talents across Nigeria get to compete. Secondly, exceptional talents should be scouted and partnered with coaches of higher calibre in their respective fields of excellence. Thirdly, we should start a national lottery in Nigeria.. Half of the money goes back lucky winners, 1/4 goes to fund sports, and 1/4 goes to good causes. We can also dedicate 0.5% of what FIRs generate into sport, so sports funding gets 2 streams. In conclusion, if there is funding, training facilities and good coaching, I see no reason why we shouldn’t do well in sports 2 Likes |

Why are governors being left out of this protest, and protesters only concentrating on Tinubu? This rubbish protest about Tinubu this, Tinubu that is getting boring now!! Challenge your state governors on what they are doing with the money! Any state that can’t enforce law and order and still protesting, President should dock their state allocations for the next 3 months and use it to fund a brand new riot police with water canons, stun guns, tasers, police dogs, batons and tear gas, etc. |
