I wil personally advice that Igbos to stay away from Lagos politics. The hausas are even better prepared for the conflicts associated with ruling in a foreign land since they hardly live in among natives, but in seperated enclaves. Thus, it's more easier to defend themselves if $h*t hits the fan.

Igbos will be crushed should the natives turn against them due to their careless way of living in among the locals.

If any Igbo has a brilliant political dream, he should look towards the SE that is currently suffering from a brain drain. There his contribution will be much more needed.

The old saying goes 'Charity begins at home'.

May your days be long!
I've always wondered about this idea that some of my Igbo brothers have about ruling others (Lagos in this case). No Igbo should run for office outside of Igbo land-NEVER. Many of us are just overly cosmopolitan. Smart Igbo folks only make money outside Igbo land, but will never have any fixed asset like land or house where they reside.
Nigeria is not one and will NEVER be one. I hate to say this (apology in advance); do we need another war to remind all these efulefus that unbriddled one nigerianism is what has kept and is still keeping Ndigbo in their current political plight in the nigerian dungeon?

How business savvy can he be that he is manufacturing cars in a country with no electricity?  undecided

Anyway, we know how much the chinese bus costs. How much would the ANNAMCO or INNOSON ones cost? We can then compare and judge the FG's decision.

Finally, I'm pretty virulently against white elephant projects. . . so you are preaching to the choir
Let me get this straight, you are against manufacturing things like autos in nigeria until nigeria fix electricity?

If the answer to the above is YES, then nigeria is a mirage then, or not?

eku_bear:

I don't care, personally. The question for me is not, "when should Nigeria manufacture X", but "which is the most profitable good for Nigeria to be producing"? It might turn out that we are better equipped to focus on thoroughly dominating the West African tire market. I'd much rather find a good niche and be dominant at it (i.e., produce at the best prices in my region), than fake glory projects like manufacturing cars (at uncompetitve prices)  undecided
For the specific vehicle he drove at the time, yes. I cannot the specifics though.

@ the bolded, you crack me up grin You and I know there are tones of white elephant projects embarked on by politicians in nigeria. This one is not one of them though, as it is by an individual who is business savvy cool

If this is not a lazy way of winning an argument one ought instead to spend time actually convincing people of one's side, I don't know what else qualifies at this point.

I was not arguing with anyone in the 1st place, let alone trying to win one . I was only referencing the case of nigeria having too many lazy people in govt, who rely too much on oil. It is this easy oil money that "kills" other viable cash option for the country.
alex101(m): 5:23am On Feb 22, 2011
eku_bear:

Do you guys actually put your money where your mouth is? Do you buy locally made goods when they cost far more than the equivalent abroad? If not, then imo you are being hypocrites.

For me, the things that Nigeria makes cheaper (local food items, for example), I stock up on. But if I need an LCD, I'll buy one from where it is most cheaply made. Same with a computer. . . I'll buy from where it is most cheaply made.

I bet for 99% of you, you are sitting there typing on a laptop/computer assembled outside of Nigeria.

If "local ingenuity" = "buy my widget X for 3 times as much as you can get it outside of Nigeria", then let me come too and feed from the trough.

Local ingenuity ko, government subsidy ni.

Seriously Eku, when do you think nigeria should try its hand at manufacturing automobile?
Also, are you 100% sure the locally made one is more expensive than the foreign (china) made one?
alex101(m): 4:57am On Feb 22, 2011
Very unfortunate, but not amazed, because in nigeria, good is bad, and bad is good.  angry
This was just like replacing Amodu with an oyibo man in the super eagles, all because of corruption.
I believe whoever is responsible for this chineese contract must have been bribed, to the extent that he/she was willing to throw the local auto industry under the bus- what a shame angry

I will keep saying it that there no basis for unity in that dungeon called nigeria.
Is this how the nigeria "go take better"?
This oil don finish this country, Too many lazy folks in govt who don't wanna promote local ingenuity that would create and spread wealth.
To these clowns in govt, as long as the oil cash keep flowing (monthly allocation and other goodies), manufacturing is not needed. Well, we shall see how long nigeria can the massive size of govt that is growing day by day, with just oil money. cool
alex101(m): 9:17pm On Feb 21, 2011
Well, the truth is like pregnancy, you can't hide it for ever. cool

I think Nigeria will do itself a favour by releasing all the archives (if any) on the events of the war.

We can't move forward as a nation if we run away from our past.

Nigeria is on the verge of becoming history because it has failed to discuss its history/past, for they say: "those who ignore their history shall become history"

I just hope this thread dosen't degenerate into another "e-tribal battle" grin

Na ordinary practical these brave biafrans dey do O! I think their guns were too loud for the yorubas.

The sound of their gun shots were heard in Lagos. No wonder every time the yorubas will accuse them of trying to invade Lagos during the war.

~Bluetooth:

what do you suggest since i guess you see nothing wrong in what those basttards did ?

Seek a united nations' (UN) resolution to the crisis.
alex101(m): 6:57am On Feb 20, 2011
The yorubas should get the UN peace keeping force into the entire SW. This will deter the Ijaws invaders.

This UN peace force is the only guarantee that the Ijaw will not trouble the peace loving people of the SW.

There will be no more kidnapping of any yoruba king in ile yoruba (yorubaland)

There will be no more bombing of atlas cove in the "revered city" of Lagos, by these Ijaw invaders/expansionists.

The yorubas can even take advantage of the UN presence and secede from nigeria with the help of the UN, thereby becoming free from Ijaw oppression. cool

Peace out! cool wink

Well there isn't really any difference. The first picture is an Igbo man, and the second picture is Ijaw militants. Let the Yorubas know they are facing our cousins. grin

Eze, ol boy, you're on fire with these your pictures wey you dey post. I dey gbadu you well well. The Ijaws really took after us, their big brother. cool

Nna spare me the mother bullcrap. Pikin we say im mama no go sleep him too no go sleep.  cool

Chei! the yorubas have a lot of problems o! who dem go run to now?

The north cannot save them because OBJ don spoil zoning

The middle belt cannot save them because yoruba did not send OPC to help berom people fight fulani.

The Igbo do not want to get fully involved because they might say "Igbo has hidden agenda"

Seem like the only solution is for the yorubas to report this humiliation by the Ijaw to the UN, since they (UN) like to solve problems diplomtically! LOL
alex101(m): 6:10am On Feb 20, 2011
EzeUche_:

Very true.  grin

Yoruba people, it will be alright. If you ask the Igbo nicely, we may work as intermediaries between you and the Ijaws, our cousins. That is the least we can do for the Yoruba for allowing us to make money off their people.

Thanks for your understanding. We will help them pacify the Ijaws. Their Oba must be released unharmed, to avoid a "diplomatic war"
alex101(m): 6:03am On Feb 20, 2011
Please o! my Igbo brethren, take it easy on the yorubas, they are peace loving people, they don't like rushing to war, they are very diplomatic, and in this their time of crises, we should comfort them like a mother would comfort her child. cool

You igbo peeps are funny sha especially Onlytruth. The ijaws attacked and the yorubas IN one small village in ondo state  ran but during the annulment of abiola's election you were unattacked before you all ran away from Lagos. Abeg, no make I openn your yansh here oo. About the Ijaws, I hope their "war-like culture" ( as ezeuche says it) would not deceive them and put them in fire. If they pick a fight with the wrong set of unforgiving people ( fulanis taught us that cool) their fingers and hands would surely be burnt. I can how the lagos state government wanted to retaliate after the atlas cove* attack, they started calling the Yorubas tribalist and the the attack was not against the yorubas but Nigeria. No this? Well, as I said earlier and would keep on saying, no matter what they are/ were smoking, they would dare not hurt the Oba ( it's a taboo), if they do . . . . . . well we are not like the igbos in portharcourt. Enough said. All in all, it should be resolved diplomatically.

I think you're wrong here. It was ABIOLA's ( a yoruba man's) election, so the Igbo left the arena (Lagos) for you guys and the abokis to sort it out.
alex101(m): 5:21am On Feb 20, 2011
I think the people of this town should get OPC to help them kidnap Edwin Clark and use it(him) as a bargaining chip with the Ijaw, since they (Ijaw) have no king. Edwin Clark is the defacto Ijaw king!
alex101(m): 10:34pm On Feb 19, 2011
The scenerio is getting clearer.

The Ijaws are pushing upward from the atlantic in their quest for land

The fulani on the other hand are pushing downward from the sahara in their quest for grazing their cattle

Chei! e be like say dem dey squeeze this nijah o! cheesy grin

Never underestimate your opponent, no matter how "minor" you may think of him/her. The mexican drug cartel were ignored and labelled as a bunch of "street

gangs/thugs". We now know how they are taking on the mexican federal police as we speak.

Ijaw= a minority in the south.

Fulani= a minority in the north.

Sometimes, it is appropriate to "kill a fly with a sledge hammer".

The map posted by the OP is more accurate than not, though not 100% accurate. No one can blame the Igbo coup plotters of the past and Ojukwu for attempting to secceed. Imagine a biafra with all that oil! I venture to say that such a country would rival the Arab oil rich countries on several levels. The sad truth is that the biafrans lost the war and will never form that nation without first killing off the rest of Nigeria - an impossibility at best. Best option for biafrans is to learn to live and let live, learn to be nationalists and patriotic.

As Ileke posited, y'all ain't going nowhere as long as the oil fields are not yet dry (i.e. unless massive reserves are found in Sakwato, Kaduna, or the Chad basin).

@Becomerich, go on soun. cheesy Hand drawn maps can be used to distort facts. let the OP produce satellite images to justify his claims

@ 1st bolded, I'm happy you agree that a biafra nation would rival oil rich arab countries. cool Infact, I would even go further to say that a biafra nation will outpace any oil rich arab world- it will be more like competing with the asian countries like china, Japan etc. as far as biafra is concerned.
BTW, my friend, why didn't your leaders (from the 1970's to date) develop nigeria, with all these oil to rival the oil rich arab countries?

@ the 2nd bolded, becareful what you wish for, dreams/wishes have a way of coming to past! grin

BTW, If this continues, expect Ekiti ppl to intercept. And that would be a grave mistake. We never let until we get what we;re after.

Took too long to react? Or think about our actions before we react.

I guess the meaning of bravery to some nairalanders is the idea of constant war with other groups. The unconsciousness need to waste millions of lives on a battlefield.

I think you misunderstood me. I am not calling for war b/w the yorubas and Ijaws. By 'too long to react' I mean careful deliberation on serious issues.

Believe me, I am for solving problems peacefully, as long as both parties keep to the of the agreement.

Maybe these claims of Yoruba cowardice are true.Let's see how they respond. Seems to me that a punitive expedition to the town of these militants is in order.

@ the bolded, you are wrong. I'm Igbo and I was born and bred in Lagos. I don't think yorubas are cowards. I just think they take too long to react. This is

I've always tried to convey to my fellow Igbo. Careful and drwan out deliberation is not cowardice to me.

@ all, I think a major battle is looming in Nigeria. In fact, I will call it the mother of all battles.

Fulani expansionists heading south to graze their cattles at all cost.

Then Ijaw 'wahala' in southern nigeria.

I have come to the conclusion, that only Igbo men make pretty children. When an Igbo woman has children with a man from another tribe, they do not have looks like a child born to an Igbo man.  cool

Gbam!

This is why I've recommended that Igbo should only marry from any tribe east of the niger to preserve our good looks. We should prevent tainting of our blood.

As a typical 100% Igbo dude (both parents of Igbo extraction), people have always wondered if I'm related to Denzel Washington. cool grin I know say

alex101(m): 3:53am On Feb 14, 2011
People are disregarding the fact that in nigeria, democracy is by selection and not by election. ACN stands no chance. cool

Power of incumbency

GEJ doesn't have to win by fairplay,,,,,,,,,,,,afterall, presidential election is hardly fair in nigeria.
