The Lagos State Government has once again emphasized its firm stance against the collection of excessive tenancy agreement fees, reminding landlords and agents that the legally approved maximum remains 10% of the annual rent.https://ikorodunewsnetwork.com/2025/05/20/lagos-enforces-10-tenancy-fees-limit-cautions-landlords-and-agents-on-overcharging-inn-nigeria-%E2%98%86/ 18 Likes 2 Shares |

This could only be enforced when tenant takes landlord to court. If not, enforcement will not be easy by the government. 34 Likes 1 Share |

Only Tenants can enforce this law. Give us a platform to report the landlord if an agent charge above the 10% 10% to me is still to much, 1m apartment that will be 100k Let landlord pay them out of the rentage since it's one time thing 45 Likes 2 Shares |

Good. 10% commission/agreement! Once this is properly enforced, cost of house rent would significantly reduce, unlike when agents would charge 20-30% agreement and commission, making the rent high. This is a more feasible solution than asking landlords to charge monthly in my own opinion cos some troublesome tenants would take advantage of it and refuse to pay rent after a few months. 23 Likes 1 Share |

Those of you doubting if it’s enforceable, wait till we have a scapegoat. If you are a victim, just report to the government and it will be dealt with. These agents have unions and I know they should have enlightened themselves. 18 Likes 1 Share |

LASG should build houses to compete, this empty talks is shameful. They will build and sell to themselves and to the affluent, build and rent cheaply to the poor, just like Sir Lateef Jakande did. Talk is cheap.

House of 650k, I ended spending 1.1m.... Very wicked agents and landlords. The funny part is that the whole money was paid to the caretaker, not even the agents oo 20 Likes 2 Shares |

I was shocked when our office cleaner told me she paid 350k for a room in Agege. Yearly rent is 120k that fair, Crazy part Agent fee 100k, agreement 100k am very sure it one tiny receipt they will cut for her, damages 30k for house that is most likely be leaking when raining. Before the house search she don pay 10k for agent form omo I just weak.

Inkling: You just read there's a law against such fraudulent activities and where there's law there will surely be punishment for breaking the law. The Government also encouraged people to report violators. The wickedness of the landlords and Agents in Lagos, Ogun and Oyo states and other states is too much. How can you bill people double of the rent as charges? Kudos to lagos for protecting the tenants and shame on the other Governors for subjecting their indigene to evil exploitation. 11 Likes 4 Shares |
