Lack breeds envy, bitterness sometimes violence.
If the land lord had AC, he wouldn't do that rather he'd look for another way to resolve the issue.

If the landlord says you should not install an AC on his property for some cogent reasons eh if it's an old building and the walls are weak, I think the tenant should respect those wishes or move to another house
I’d say a building with walls that are too weak to sustain AC is already a safety hazard.

I bet the landlord won’t mention that when he’s looking for tenants. Put it in the description that your house is too weak and can’t sustain AC. Let the tenants make that informed decision before paying for a full year or 2 years of rent. Not after they move in you start giving them rules knowing that they either have to suffer or leave the money they already paid in order to get something else.

This is one of the reasons there's tenancy agreement. If the landlord didn't state this in the tenancy agreement, he has no right to damage the AC, and he could be sued. On the contrary, if he did state it, then the tenant deserves whatever that's coming.

No be everything go dey for tenancy agreement.

So a tenant can go and install solar on the roof because it wasn't stated in the agreement that solar s should not be installed on the roof?

600k for ordinary AC? Naija which way?
Kobicove:

Oya make you go take over his property na because of one bloody AC that is worth at most 600K for a brand new unit. undecided

600K is not even enough to do just the foundation of a small bungalow

I watched the video previously.

Question not answered: Are they sharing same metre?

We need the complete story. Even the tenant didn't tell us why the landlord did that.

Exactly. If na shared meter, or the entire property is on estimated billing and the ac is causing increase in bills...and if the landlord is the one footing the electricity bills by himself, then the action, crass as it is, is understandable.

AC's chop power well well.

So the tenant is just supposed to sweat to death? What’s wrong with using AC in a rental property?
Maybe the electricity bills are shared

I'm glad the young man handled the situation in a civil way.

Personally, I doubt I'll be this calm and watch another human destroy my property. May God grant me the patience and civility of this young man in chaotic situations. Amen 🙏

You're so right. My anger mood would have been triggered...

All these one-sided stories sef.

Even people who have never bought ust 50 bags of cement at a go have also started demonizing the landlord for trying to protect his property/investment undecided

That attitude of the landlord is so uncivil.

He should've reported the case to police.
His action can earn him serious charge for malicious damage.

I blame government for not regulating these things. Most landlords in Nigeria are demons, they increase rent anyhow and do other unimaginable things to tenants and most times get away with it.

God please don't allow anybody provoke me to this extent because I don't wanna commit murder.......I won't fold my arms and allow somebody destroy my property simply because he's my landlord.

Landlord attitude towards tenants are getting very bad this days especially in Lagos.

Not a good one at all.

My own useless landlord just brought a their irresponsible lawyer to inform us that they are adding 100k to my 200k annual rent fee while adding 200k to those paying 400k

They will use the money to buy drugs by God's grace until they decide to have human feeling

This is the shocking moment a landlord deliberately damages a tenant’s air conditioner simply because he doesn’t want AC units used on his property.

The video has gone viral, sparking mixed reactions online.

The big question is: Does a landlord have the right to do this? And what would you do if you were in the tenant’s shoes?
