Dangote is a back stabber, a betrayal of the masses for agreeing & conniving with the government to sell above his cost of production... You can't tell me that at this close price to imported fuel is what it cost him even without landing costs and other logistics. Definitely all the noises he was making on not getting local crude supplies were not sincere and selfish. He's part of the cabal from time but wanting to use his (refinery monopoly) make it more (money) among others.
Only an idiot wouldn't see this right from the day that crook dreamt of building a refinery

I know that government could have made the price cheaper through pegging an exchange rate for sale to local refineries or selling crude cheaper locally. But they wouldn’t do it because they want to stop smuggling of refined petrol to neighbouring countries. There is no way petrol will be smuggled at 1200/litre to neighbouring countries. It is just not profitable. But government must do something quickly before they cause class suicide due to hunger and poverty. They must not also underrate the propensity to cause social unrest and revolution. They must do something quickly to reduce the pain on the people.
I thought tinubu removed subsidy as soon he took over from buhari? Are You guys not tired of defending this man?

Average selling price in Nigeria's neighbours is between N1,700 and N2,000. Price is not the check here.

The only check here is that all tankers must have trackers installed on them to ensure they do not leave approved routes and that they must have adequate documentation.

That cannot happen in a deregulated system because oil marketers are profit driven and do not mind sabotaging the economy for selfish reasons. NNPC could have done that but they cannot maintain a monopoly in a deregulated system. Maintaining a marginal price difference is the answer if we cannot control our borders.

How do you know smuggling petrol is not profitable?
Have you compared Nigeria and neighbouring countries' petrol prices?

Cement despite not being subsidized is smuggled heavily into neighbouring countries.

Stop believing the government's word without evidence.
There is more to smuggling than just subsidy.

Price differentials due to subsidy is the prime motivation for cross border smuggling of prtrol. Ask anybody on that.

You just said rubbish. Your country has about the worst currency around its neighbours, so why won't smuggling be even more lucrative now?

Some of you talk as if you lack memory. When naira was stronger than CFA, they were smuggling petrol across the border. Because subsidy ensured a great price differential that encouraged smuggling through the borders.

Even if petrol cost 2000 in our neighbouring countries?

T pain doesn't give a damn. Its his nature. I expected him to be just that but not towards poor Nigerians.

So what you are implying is that because the government has failed woefully in securing our borders, it is justified for Nigerians to now buy fuel at an exorbitant price so as to discourage people from smuggling it to our neighbouring countries.

Honestly, I don't know the planet you emerged from with this wacked reasoning.

Yes i dont live in your planet of ignorance. If you have been in leadership you will understand. Nigerians are corrupt. Custom officers are corrupt. No money to build high walls across all our borders. Petrol will always be smuggled no matter the amount of subsidy as long as there is price differentials and the customs are corrupt without any border walls. And petrol scarcity will always persist because all the petrol for local consumption will always find their way through the borders. Now use your brain to fond a workable solution. Don’t give me idealistic answer.

You actually wallow in ignorance.

The same government you are struggling to defend will not give this self-indicting excuse as their reason for the incessant increase in the pump price of petrol.

Wrong analysis.

Since CFA is stronger and Naira is weak, they now have more purchasing power to smuggle more. The advantage is theirs.

That smuggling will even get worst because our neighbours currencies are getting strong while ours is getting weaker. They can afford to buy more and more. The more the price of petrol in Nigeria the lower the value of the Naira and the higher the purchasing power of our neighbours. As long as Naira depreciates, smuggling will increase.

T pain has lost direction.

Buhari removed subsidy, not Tinubu.

Ask yourself this question, has Tinubu paid subsidy beyond the time Buhari removed it. You cant say no, therefore subsidy was never removed By Buhari. Buhari simply budgeted up to a certain
point beyond his tenure but Tinubu who came out to say he removed it kept on paying.

My guy, this smuggling thing is now very high. I just bought from one filling station on Apapa Road, if you see number of 50 litres kegs that are inside the keke napep (tricycle), they just use the black tapolene to cover the sides like when rain is falling. Guy, na Badagry straight.

Some women arrange kegs inside bags of rice to move this petrol.

Government should find a way of returning the money to us.

If all these things have been happening for ages then Nigeria can never be better.

You are joking, now that the CFA is stronger than the naira, even at #1200 per litre our fuel would still be smuggled, it's only when the naira appreciate greatly n there's no subsidy that fuel smuggling would not be profitable or attractive,as it is now,let the subsidy go completely but let their be constant fuel gradually we would adjust to it n move on with our lives

Sir, I never called you an idiot, i was only making reference to the fact that Dangote is Dangote, but the ever forgetting gullible citizens fell for his antics.

NNPCL has been useless from time immemorial, but it is foolishness to believe that someone who increased his price of cement and sugar without excuses would be a a savior for fuel prices like gullible citizens believed.

.. and the dollars exchange rate of 1,650 naira to a dollar also caused the high costs of fuel

Go on google, Buhari removed subsidy from June 2023. But he had no money to pay as at January 2023 in government coffers. And they owed NNPC 3 trillion in subsidy p payment.
ufotunang: 12:14pm On Oct 11, 2024
It's the high dollars exchange rate of 1,650 naira to a dollar that is also the cause of the high costs of fuel..if the dollars crash and naira have value and appreciate like maybe starting from between 1,000 naira gradually down to 500 naira to a dollar the price of fuel and other petroleum products will be cheap and affordable

With this current price will it still be profitable for smugglers who smuggle Nigerian oil to neighbouring countries?
The high the price of petrol on naira, the lower the price in CFA, the higher the profit made by smugglers, the higher the rate of smuggling and finally, the higher the stupidity of Tinubu ers.

We're been scammed
Compare the prices of American crude grades to Nigerian crude grades, American petrol grades to Nigerian crude grade and eliminate all non-crude based petrol.

Price differentials due to subsidy is the prime motivation for cross border smuggling of prtrol. Ask anybody on that.
No.
Price difference is the motivation, subsidy or no subsidy.
Yes, subsidy causes massive difference in price but as long as the players
can make profit, smuggling will continue.
