Independent oil marketers on Wednesday adjusted the pump price of petrol in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to reflect the price at which they bought the product from Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Company.

Checks revealed that many filling stations have adjusted their pump price of petrol to an average of N1,200 per liter.

The adjustment followed the full deregulation of the downstream sector of the petroleum industry, which allowed the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd to end its exclusive purchase agreement with Dangote Refinery.

This effectively opened up the market for other marketers to buy petrol directly from the refinery.

The implication of this is that the NNPC will no longer be the sole off-taker, and marketers can now negotiate prices directly with Dangote Refinery.

This development aligns with the current practices for fully deregulated products, where refineries can sell directly to marketers.

Gradually this is hitting 1500, I knew soon Dangote will be forced to declare the price he sells or among the independent market will reveal the secret and we'll shift the blame game to Dangote forgetting the price crude was sold to him too

I know that government could have made the price cheaper through pegging an exchange rate for sale to local refineries or selling crude cheaper locally. But they wouldn’t do it because they want to stop smuggling of refined petrol to neighbouring countries. There is no way petrol will be smuggled at 1200/litre to neighbouring countries. It is just not profitable. But government must do something quickly before they cause class suicide due to hunger and poverty. They must not also underrate the propensity to cause social unrest and revolution. They must do something quickly to reduce the pain on the people.

TPAIN is working overtime.

No matter the level of evil or corruption being perpetuated by Nigerian politicians\leaders, there will always be a Nigerian ing them ,unfortunately, this same Nigerian will be dragging front seat, sandwiched between the driver, another Nigerian in front seat of mini-buses that don't even have space and be loaded like olden days sardine.

A Nigerian lawyer and human rights activist, Femi Falana (SAN), has knocked the decisions of Nigeria National Petroleum Company to fix prices of imported fuel and locally refined fuel, which are illegal, null, and void.

In a statement on Thursday, Falana said the move contravenes the provisions of section 205 of the Petroleum Industry Act.

“The decisions of the NNPCL to fix the prices of imported fuel and locally refined fuel are illegal, nullity and void as they contravene the provisions of section 205 of the Petroleum Industry Act which stipulates that the prices of petroleum products shall be determined by market forces,” he said

So what you are implying is that because the government has failed woefully in securing our borders, it is justified for Nigerians to now buy fuel at an exorbitant price so as to discourage people from smuggling it to our neighbouring countries.

Honestly, I don't know the planet you emerged from with this wacked reasoning.

I Obasanjo kept hammering during his time that it was better to fully deregulate petrol. He even claimed then that a bottle of water was more expensive than petrol.

We finally reach this point where anyone can sell petrol at the price that he wants, something Cameroon, Benin republic, Niger and Ghana have been doing for a long while now.

You just said rubbish. Your country has about the worst currency around its neighbours, so why won't smuggling be even more lucrative now?

We are edging close to a dollar for a liter of pms. Please how much is a litte of gasoline in the US. Covert $0.85 to naira at a rate of 1600. Gasoline is 1,360 naira in the US and over 1,400 in some places in Nigeria.

We're been scammed

With this current price will it still be profitable for smugglers who smuggle Nigerian oil to neighbouring countries?
